Fake It Till You Make It (and Find Your Real Family) Chapter 38

Chapter 38 Morning Exercise

After Mu Xiwan finished her evening practice, she looked at the time and found it was still early. She thought about going for a morning run. So, she quickly changed into sportswear and walked lightly downstairs. When she reached the second floor, she happened to meet Ji Yuanxi, who had just opened the bedroom door.

“Mu Xiwan? Why are you up so early?” Ji Yuanxi, with sleepy eyes, looked at Mu Xiwan in surprise.

It was only a little after six o’clock, still more than an hour before breakfast. Ji Yuanxi had something to do at the hospital today; otherwise, she wouldn’t have woken up so early.

“Good morning, Auntie! I’m going out to exercise!” Mu Xiwan replied obediently to Ji Yuanxi. Her eyes were clear and bright, and her voice was crisp and pleasant.

But when she looked carefully at Ji Yuanxi, she noticed a dark mark on her forehead, a sign of impending disaster. Mu Xiwan didn’t see this last night when she saw Ji Yuanxi!

Although Mu Xiwan and Ji Yuanxi were not related by blood, because Ji Yuanxi was part of the Mu family, there was some karmic connection between them. Mu Xiwan could see the sign of impending disaster on Ji Yuanxi, but she couldn’t discern what exactly the disaster was.

Mu Xiwan looked serious. She took out a talisman from her pocket, actually smuggled from her space, and handed it to Ji Yuanxi, saying:

“Auntie, this is a talisman. Please keep it safe today!”

Ji Yuanxi was surprised that her new niece believed in such things as feng shui. But looking at Mu Xiwan’s sincere and caring eyes, she was afraid that if she didn’t accept it, the girl would be upset. So, she smiled and took it, putting it in her shirt pocket.

“Thank you, Mu Xiwan. It’s rare to see someone as young as you not sleeping in. It’s quite commendable!” Ji Yuanxi praised Mu Xiwan. This niece of hers was not only beautiful but also had excellent academic performance and was so disciplined. It was truly admirable.

Ji Yuanxi, who had always wanted a daughter, couldn’t help but envy her older brother and sister-in-law. They had three children, all of whom were outstanding. It made her extremely envious.

Mu Xiwan felt a little embarrassed by Ji Yuanxi’s praise. Her cheeks slightly red, she said, “Auntie, I’ll go for a run first. Whether you believe in this talisman or not, please keep it in your pocket today and don’t take it out!”

Seeing the seriousness in Mu Xiwan’s eyes and a hint of concern, Ji Yuanxi couldn’t help but nod. It was not just because of Mu Xiwan’s caring gaze but also because the talisman, when folded by Mu Xiwan, took up very little space in her pocket.

After Ji Yuanxi agreed, Mu Xiwan bid her farewell and left with a light pace.

As Mu Xiwan stepped out of the house, the air outside was fresh and pleasant. There was a spacious fitness square in the compound, surrounded by lush trees and fragrant flowers, a perfect place for morning exercises.

After all, many retired former leaders lived in this compound, and they carried a strong sense of merit.

Just like Grandpa Mu, when Mu Xiwan saw her grandfather for the first time yesterday, she noticed a golden halo around him, the light of merit.

This light of merit protected Grandpa from evil spirits and added a certain aura to the entire compound, making it more spiritually abundant than other places.

Just because of this spiritual abundance, Mu Xiwan felt that returning to the Mu family was the right choice.

After running a few laps around the square, Mu Xiwan leisurely strolled back to the Mu family. As she entered, she saw Grandpa Mu sitting on the sofa in the living room reading the newspaper.

Mu Xiwan obediently greeted, “Grandpa, good morning!”

Grandpa Mu put down the newspaper, looked up, saw Mu Xiwan coming in from outside, and noticed her vibrant sportswear. He praised, “Mu Xiwan, did you go for a morning run?”

Mu Xiwan smiled and walked to Grandpa Mu, saying, “Yes, Grandpa. The morning air is better!”

Upon hearing his granddaughter’s words, Grandpa Mu couldn’t help but agree, “Yes, yes. Mu Xiwan is disciplined, unlike those rascals who have to be called several times every morning to wake up!”

After hearing Grandpa Mu’s words, Mu Xiwan smiled, didn’t respond, and then told Grandpa Mu, “Grandpa, I’ll go upstairs to change clothes and come back to accompany you later!”

“Alright, go ahead!” Grandpa Mu waved his hand at Mu Xiwan. He watched his granddaughter go upstairs, his eyes full of affection.

Grandpa Mu, looking at the well-behaved Mu Xiwan, couldn’t help but think that when he got the chance, he would take Mu Xiwan to show off to those old fellows, letting them envy his excellent granddaughter.

Mu Xiwan went upstairs to wash up briefly, changed into a comfortable casual outfit she bought yesterday, and came downstairs.

When she reached the bottom, she found that everyone who was going to work or school was already up and waiting in the dining room.

Jiang Xingman, seeing her daughter come down, immediately waved to Mu Xiwan, “Mu Xiwan, I just heard your grandpa say that you went out for a morning run. Why didn’t you sleep a little longer?” Jiang Xingman’s eyes were full of concern.

Mu Xiwan came to Jiang Xingman and sat beside her, following Jiang Xingman’s suggestion, “Mom, I’m used to waking up early. How were you last night? Did you sleep well?”

Hearing her daughter’s question, Jiang Xingman smiled happily, “Mu Xiwan, I was just about to tell you. I slept so well last night. I haven’t slept this well in a long time! Mu Xiwan, it’s all thanks to you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know what a normal sleep feels like!”

The old man, sitting nearby, looked at the mother and daughter in astonishment. He curiously asked, “Jiang Xingman, Mu Xiwan, what’s going on?”

When Jiang Xingman spoke, her eyes were a little red. Hearing the old man’s question, she suppressed the excitement in her heart and slowly told Grandpa Mu in detail about Mu Xiwan giving her acupuncture the previous day.

After listening to Jiang Xingman, Grandpa Mu asked in shock, “Girl, who did you learn your medical skills from? It’s so amazing!”

Grandpa Mu, having experienced many things, could guess that Mu Xiwan’s medical skills must be far superior to those of ordinary old Chinese doctors just from Jiang Xingman’s words.

The other members of the Mu family, upon learning that Mu Xiwan actually knew medical skills, had different expressions.

The older generation of the Mu family looked at Mu Xiwan with admiration. After all, she was this year’s top scorer in the college entrance exam. But not only was she a top scorer, she also knew medicine.

Being able to excel in both medicine and academics, they all admired Mu Xiwan’s abilities.

But it was different for Mu Jinghao and the others. They had just seen Chu Yunxi’s unnatural and awkward expression when everyone was praising Mu Xiwan’s medical skills.

No matter what, they couldn’t bear to see Chu Yunxi wronged, even if the injustice was caused by their cousin (sister) who was related to them by blood.
