Chapter 33

Haicheng Police Bureau 

Criminal Investigation Unit, Team 1 Office. 

After half a month of busy work, the detectives were all looking forward to taking a couple of days off.  

Of course, as per tradition, before resting, the captain would treat everyone to a meal. 

At the dinner table, Luo Wei, who was usually the most lively, was unusually quiet today, looking rather downcast. 

The kind-hearted Deputy Team Leader Wei Ping noticed this and joked sympathetically, “What’s wrong with Xiao Luo? Did you break up with someone?” 

Luo Wei’s expression darkened even more. 

A good-natured young guy—what could have upset him? 

With this thought, Wei Ping turned to the squad leader on his left and asked, “Did he really break up?” 

Wei Shian was busy texting his girlfriend and didn’t even look up as he replied, “Lost an argument, embarrassed himself, maybe?” 

Wei Ping was puzzled, “Who did he argue with?” 

Wei Shian: “Just someone earlier…” 

“Captain, there’s really no need to talk about it in detail,” Luo Wei interrupted with a fit of coughing, his face black with embarrassment as he begged for mercy. 

Only heaven knew how he’d argued with that unfortunate person through texts, desperately denying that he was the one Zhu Qian had mentioned as “someone from the police bureau.” 

Who would have thought that Zhu Qian would actually have the nerve to call him! 

Having already embarrassed himself in front of his captain and that unlucky person, there was no way he’d let anyone else find out about this!!! 

Wei Shian, still focused on his phone, didn’t even glance at him, only saying indifferently, “You’re not thinking of doing anything drastic, are you?” 

Luo Wei’s face contorted for a moment before he quickly grabbed the cigarette from the table, swiftly moved to the captain’s side, and eagerly offered one to him, bowing low with exaggerated courtesy, “Captain, have a smoke.” Hopefully, this would be the end of it. 

Wei Shian finally lifted his gaze, looked at him steadily for a while, and then lightly bit the cigarette offered. 

Luo Wei, delighted, immediately took out his lighter, intending to help light it. 

To his surprise, Wei Shian avoided him directly. 

“Wha… what’s wrong?” Luo Wei asked with a face of despair. Could it be that the captain had changed his mind? 

Wei Shian, still holding the cigarette and chatting with his girlfriend, muttered, “Just a gesture is fine; your sister-in-law wants me to cut back on smoking.” 

Luo Wei’s expression turned deadpan. Having a girlfriend really makes you special, huh!!! 

Wei Ping, unaware of the conflict between the two, saw that Luo was perking up again and cheerfully added, “Looks like it’s not a breakup. But Xiao Luo, you’re not that young anymore; maybe it’s time to find someone.” 

Luo Wei’s mouth twitched, “I’m still young.” 

“Not that young anymore, you know. Good girls won’t wait forever. My own boy, still in college, already has a girlfriend.” 

Luo Wei suddenly lost his appetite.

Early April. 

The warmth of spring and the fragrance of flowers. 

Officer Wei finally had some free time. 

Knowing that his girlfriend loves flowers, he decided to take her to see the cherry blossoms. 

After all, if they didn’t go soon, the blossoms would wither. 

Wanting to spend more time with his girlfriend, he parked his car near Lu’s villa as early as seven in the morning. 

Lu Jiu was eagerly looking forward to today’s date. 

She got up early to get ready, and after receiving a message from her boyfriend, she happily grabbed the fruit and snacks that the housekeeper had prepared and went out. 

Seeing his girlfriend carrying two large bags from afar, Wei Shian quickly opened the car door and strode over to help. 

As he took the bags and felt their weight, he asked curiously, “What’s all this?” 

Lu Jiu replied, “Aren’t we going to the park? I thought we could have a picnic there.” 

Wei Shian had no objections to a picnic. Today, all his time belonged to his girlfriend, so whatever she wanted to do was fine by him. 

But… his gaze swept across her waistline—was she really going to have a picnic in a cheongsam? Would that be convenient? 

“What are you looking at?” 

Wei Shian raised his hand, instinctively wanting to wrap it around his girlfriend’s waist, but remembering that the setting wasn’t appropriate, he instead opened the passenger door for her. “Nothing, get in the car first, and I’ll put these away.” 

Lu Jiu nodded and got in. 

It was only then that she noticed all the gifts that had been piled up in the back, making the car feel cramped, were gone. 

She blinked and, once the man had put away the items and sat in the driver’s seat, finally found her voice to ask, “The back…” 

After helping her buckle her seatbelt, Wei Shian didn’t rush to move away. He gently stroked her eyebrows and softly explained, “I…” 

“Ah, I did my eyebrows, you’re going to mess them up!” Thinking her boyfriend was about to kiss her, Lu Jiu was about to get shy but was startled by his actions. 

Not only did she bat away his hand, but she also pulled out a small mirror to check her makeup. 

Once she confirmed nothing was messed up, the beauty-loving girl finally relaxed. She gave her now-stiff boyfriend a playful glare and pouted, “I did my makeup today, so no touching!” 

Wei Shian snapped back to reality, curiosity prompting him to lean in a little closer. 

Too close! 

So close that she could feel his breath. 

Lu Jiu stiffened all over, subconsciously holding her breath. “Wha… what’s wrong?” 

A dark light flickered in Wei Shian’s eyes, but he remained as composed as ever, “I didn’t notice. I’ll be careful not to touch it later.” 

Touch what? Lu Jiu’s eyes darted around as she nervously gripped her purse strap, mumbling, “Just my eyebrows, and my lips… mmph.” 

He wanted her! 

Wei Shian cupped his girlfriend’s face with one hand, the other pressing against the back of her neck as he firmly captured that rosy tint, prying open her lips, kissing her almost greedily. 

Kissing the one you like felt amazing. 

Wei Shian soon became fully immersed until he felt a pushing motion against his chest, prompting him to reluctantly pull back. 

Lu Jiu panted heavily, her eyes misty. “You…” Were you trying to eat me? Her lips and tongue were tingling and sore. 

Although she didn’t say it out loud, Wei Shian understood. He chuckled softly, then leaned in to give her another deep kiss before finally feeling somewhat satisfied. “Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Seeing you makes me want to kiss you, so…” 

What kind of talk is this? What kind of apology is that? Just as Lu Jiu was about to get angry, she realized there was more, so she instinctively asked, “So what?” 

Wei Shian lifted his hand to gently brush his girlfriend’s swollen lips, using his thumb to carefully wipe away the moisture as he rasped, “Not being able to kiss your lips is out of the question. How about… I redo your makeup after kissing you?” 

Lu Jiu couldn’t help but think, You’re actually quite nice.

Having grown up in a loving family environment, Lu Jiu had a gentle temperament. 

On the way, after being fed snacks by her boyfriend twice, she smiled again. 

At this moment, she remembered the missing gifts in the back. 

Wei Shian explained, “I thought the gifts were putting pressure on you.” 

Lu Jiu’s long eyelashes trembled as she turned to look at the man beside her. 

As the light turned green, Wei Shian turned left onto another road, glancing at his girlfriend with tender eyes. “That night, when I hastily went to your house, I was quite self-conscious about not bringing anything. I thought I’d always be ready for any unexpected situation.” 

Lu Jiu murmured, “I-Is that so?” 

“Yes, my peony. I’m sorry, I admit I really want to win your parents’ approval. If I could, I’d marry you today,” Wei Shian said, looking at his now-blushing girlfriend and laughing lightly before continuing, “But that’s just my wishful thinking. You don’t have to cooperate just because you feel bad or because you’re soft-hearted. In our relationship, you have the final say on everything. For example, visiting your parents or buying a house.” 

After listening carefully, Lu Jiu remained silent for a while before softly responding, “…Okay.” 

In truth, she knew that she and Wei Shian were dating, they both liked each other a lot, and at this rate, meeting the parents was inevitable. 

But… she always felt like something was missing. 

At the very least, she wished she wouldn’t get flustered and her heart wouldn’t race every time they kissed. 

At the very least, she hoped to feel as comfortable as her parents or her sister with Feng Ming.

Haicheng People’s Park had many cherry blossoms. 

Every cherry blossom season, the place would be packed with visitors. 

So even though today wasn’t a holiday, there were still plenty of people there to see the blossoms. 

Wei Shian circled around twice before finally finding a parking spot. 

After getting out, he held two large bags in one hand, opened an umbrella with the other, shielding his girlfriend’s head, and even raised his arm to signal her to hold onto it. 

Lu Jiu… 

She looked up at the umbrella over her head and then at the man’s muscular arm, hesitatingly suggesting, “How about we leave the umbrella 

Wei Shian asked, “Aren’t you afraid of getting sunburned?” 

Lu Jiu shook her head. “I actually quite like the sun this time of year, and I don’t get tanned.” 

Her girlfriend’s skin was so fair it was almost dazzling, yet she claimed she didn’t tan? Wei Shian was genuinely surprised. 

But he wasn’t well-versed in these matters. Since Peony didn’t like it, there was no need for the umbrella, so he tossed it back into the car. 

Then, holding hands, they bought tickets and walked into the park with the crowd.

Out to see the cherry blossoms. 

Lu Jiu brought her camera. 

Along the way, she would occasionally stand under the cherry blossom trees or lean against the trunks, capturing beautiful moments. 

Of course, Officer Wei wasn’t particularly fond of being photographed; most of the time, he was busy taking pictures of his girlfriend. 

And his girlfriend was so photogenic that she looked good from any angle. 

Eventually, whenever Wei Shian saw a scene that moved him, he would just press the shutter. 

“Do you want to take a break?” Before they knew it, an hour had passed. Lu Jiu was still fine, but her boyfriend had been taking pictures and carrying heavy bags, so she was starting to feel a bit guilty. 

However, Wei Shian thought his girlfriend was the one who was tired. He gently removed a pink petal that had fallen onto her head and then looked around. “There’s a pavilion to the left up ahead. How about we sit there for a bit and have some water?” 

“Sure.” 

At 9 a.m., the visitors weren’t feeling tired yet, so the spacious octagonal pavilion only had a few people scattered inside. 

When they walked over, everyone’s eyes instantly focused on the beautiful woman in the cheongsam. 

Not just Lu Jiu, but Wei Shian had also grown used to it. As long as he was around, no man dared to approach her. 

Therefore, he was entirely unfazed and continued doing his own thing. 

Just as Wei Shian opened a bottle of water and handed it to his girlfriend, a young girl suddenly approached them. 

The girl was young, with a round, apple-shaped face—not particularly pretty but full of energy. 

Her eyes were fixed on the beautiful woman, a mix of excitement and shyness, and after a while, she finally stammered, “Beautiful sister, c-can I take a picture with you?” 

Wei Shian… 

No matter how much you prepare, you can’t foresee another girl coming up to flirt. Did she think he was dead or something? 

What really irked Wei Shian was that his girlfriend was clearly willing. 

So, Officer Wei twitched his mouth, put a large hand around Peony’s slender waist from behind, and in a polite but assertive tone, said, “How about you take a few pictures of me and my girlfriend first?”
