Don’t Fall for Me
Don’t Fall for Me Chapter 4.2

What are you feeling guilty about? (2)

Her naturally delicate and exquisite features shone brightly, now free from the dulling effect of plain clothing. As she stepped into the lobby of the office building, she attracted quite a few glances.

Yue Qianling habitually walked toward the smart access gate on the right side of the information desk. After a few steps, she stopped at the fate, took out her access card and swiped it.

But instead of opening, it produced a series of “beep beep beep” sounds.

Yue Qianling withdrew her hand, and, upon closer inspection, realized that she had used her dormitory access card instead.

She had already returned the access card for this building during the resignation process yesterday.

She had no choice but to go to the security desk to register her visit. As she lowered her head to put the access card back into her bag, someone brushed past her.

Sensing something, Yue Qianling turned her head and saw a hand pressing on the sensor.

At the same time, with a “beep” sound, the gate opened, and her gaze landed on Gu Xin’s face.

The lobby’s lights cast a faint golden glow around his silhouette, momentarily distracting Yue Qianling, making her almost think she was mistaken.

However, Gu Xin didn’t notice Yue Qianling beside him.

After the gate opened, he walked straight into the elevator area, disappearing from Yue Qianling’s line of sight in a moment.

Without time to think about it further, Yue Qianling immediately turned and headed for the information desk. After hastily registering her information, the security guard helped her swipe the door, and she quickly made her way to the elevator area.

Although it was late afternoon, the office building was still bustling with people.

Six elevators were lined up on both sides of the area. Yue Qianling walked quickly, and with a sweep of her eyes, she saw Gu Xin in the elevator that was about to close.

Gu Xin seemed to be looking outside as well, and their gazes met for a brief moment. Then, he suddenly raised his hand to stop the elevator door from closing.

Yue Qianling stood still for a moment, feeling a slight acceleration in her breathing. A sudden sense of joy inexplicably spread from the depths of her heart throughout her entire body in less than a second.

She immediately rushed into the elevator, standing in front of him. Her breathing hadn’t yet settled, but the ripples in her heart surged like waves.

Yue Qianling kept her head down, avoiding looking at him. She was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to take her eyes off him once she saw him. So, she pursed her lips and softly said, “Thank you.”

She didn’t hear a response from him. Afraid he might not have heard her, Yue Qianling slightly raised her voice, “Thank you…”

She stole a quick glance at him but immediately averted her gaze. She hesitated whether to say the next words, worrying that it might come across as overly sentimental.

However, they didn’t have many chances to talk, and she didn’t want to let this one slip away.

So, Yue Qianling’s gentle voice filled the elevator.

“But next time, it’s better not to use your hand to stop the elevator.”

“It’s quite dangerous.”

“I’m not in a hurry, I can wait for the next one.”

Still, Gu Xun didn’t respond. He just raised an eyebrow, and his slightly puzzled gaze swept over Yue Qianling’s face for a brief moment.

Then, he made an almost inaudible sound from his nostrils.

The sound was so faint that Yue Qianling couldn’t quite tell if it was an “uh-huh” or a “hmm,” but she couldn’t help feeling that his response was strangely dismissive.

She withdrew her gaze, only to see that he was still holding the elevator door open.

Finally, she began to sense that something was amiss. She followed Gu Xun’s gaze and looked outside.

A middle-aged man with a work badge was hurrying towards the elevator, taking large steps and standing in front of Yue Qianling.

He was panting and patted Gu Xun’s shoulder, and said, “Thanks, I almost missed it. I would have had to wait for the next one.”

Yue Qianling: “…”

Oh.

So, he wasn’t holding the elevator for her.

After a moment, Gu Xun lazily responded, “You’re welcome.”

Yue Qianling wondered if it was just her imagination, but she felt that when Gu Xun said those words, he glanced at her, and his tone carried a hint of sarcasm.

Under Yue Qianling’s stiff gaze, the elevator doors slowly closed.

In an inconspicuous corner, she quietly took two steps back, even holding her breath.

Help.

Help me!!!

At this moment, there weren’t too many people in the elevator, about five or six people standing around Yue Qianling. In this confined space, her embarrassment seemed to be amplified infinitely.

She didn’t attempt to say anything more to Gu Xun, and she didn’t dare to look at him either. In fact, she just wanted to find a corner to hide in.

But precisely because she was so nervous and fully focused on trying to observe Gu Xun to see if he was mocking her, every word of the conversation between the person behind her and Gu Xun entered her ears without missing a single word.

“Tonight, our department is having dinner with your department. Are you coming? Consider it welcome gathering.”

“Mmm.”

With that, the conversation ended, and the elevator arrived at the floor Yue Qianling needed to go to.

Yue Qianling let out a quiet sigh of relief, and she discreetly raised her eyes. The bright elevator doors in front of her suddenly reflected Gu Xun’s gaze as he looked at her, startling Yue Qianling. She quickly walked out without looking back.

At this point, there were only Gu Xun and the middle-aged man left in the elevator.

Actually, he was just a middle-aged man in Yue Qianling’s eyes. The reason she made this judgment was that his hair was almost turning gray, and he looked quite mature.

As long as he didn’t say it, no one would guess that he was only twenty-seven years old.

“Hey.” He nudged Gu Xun with his elbow. “Do you know that girl who just got off the elevator?”

The elevator doors hadn’t completely closed yet when Gu Xun caught a glimpse of Yue Qianling’s stiff figure as she walked away. He blinked his eyes lazily and asked, “What’s up?”

The man’s name was Yi Hong. Although he had only been with the Ninth Business Division for a year, he had known Gu Xun for four years.

He felt that, as a senior, it was his duty to inform newcomers about everything in the company.

“She’s from the Mobile Games Division, a concept artist.”

Yi Hong gave a thumbs up. “Beautiful, right? Before you came, she was the only recognized face of our company.”

“They say she’s also a recent graduate. When she first arrived, it caused quite a stir in our company. Many developers used to put snacks on her desk every day. Later, their department moved to a separate office, so we don’t see her around much anymore.”

“She also has over a hundred thousand followers on Weibo, but it seems she found out that some colleagues had discovered her account, so she stopped updating. These people, really.”

“I heard she always wanted to join our division, but she works on Otome games. You know, that’s a huge gap. I don’t know if there’s any hope…”

Yi Hong was talking nonstop when he suddenly heard a faint sneeze.

His voice came to an abrupt halt, and he slowly raised his head. He saw Gu Xun leaning against the elevator wall, tilting his head, with his eyes half-closed, as if he was about to fall asleep in the next second.

This was simply a cognitive shock to Yi Hong.

“You were actually fucking—,” he stared at Gu Xun in disbelief and asked, word by word, “Were you listening?!”
