Chapter 53
“Hey, hey, hey! Who’s single? I have a partner!”
“Exactly, Lao Yan is already married.”
“Don’t talk nonsense, I even have kids now.”
Wei Shian couldn’t be bothered to respond to the commotion from the others. He was busy helping his girlfriend sterilize the utensils, but the faint smile on his lips made it clear he was in a very good mood.
Lu Jiu had never seen him so relaxed and playful with others. Although she felt a bit embarrassed by the teasing, she was still eagerly watching.
“Have all the dishes been ordered?” After handing the utensils to his girlfriend, Wei Shian looked toward Luo Wei, who had arrived earlier.
“Yes, yes, they’re all ordered,” Luo Wei said, handing over the menu and a small notebook.
Wei Shian glanced at the notebook and noticed that not many dishes had been ordered, so he picked up a pen and added quite a few more, including his girlfriend’s favorites.
After finishing, he handed the notebook to her and asked gently, “Is there anything else you want?”
Lu Jiu didn’t look at the menu. She glanced at the notebook and saw that all her favorites were listed, so she shook her head. “That’s enough.”
“Alright then… Luo Wei, hand this to the server.”
Luo Wei jokingly complained, “Making me run errands again.” Despite his words, he took the menu and called for a server.
But unexpectedly, their usually quiet captain was being particularly annoying today.
He casually placed his hand on the back of his girlfriend’s chair, leaning back lazily, and with a smug look on his handsome face, said, “What can I do? I have a girlfriend to take care of. You single guys will have to bear with it.”
That comment was really infuriating.
Luo Wei immediately exploded, his face full of grievance as he began to expose all sorts of “blackmail” material about their leader.
Even Lu Jiu, feeling a bit embarrassed, reached out to pat her boyfriend’s arm, thinking he was being a bit too smug.
Wei Shian opened his hand, and when his girlfriend’s soft hand touched his, he wrapped it in his palm and pressed it onto his leg, preventing her from pulling away.
Lu Jiu’s ears turned red, and she instinctively looked around.
She then met the playful, teasing eyes of Lin Ling, the forensic doctor, who was sitting on her other side. Judging by her expression, Lin Ling had clearly seen everything Wei Shian had done… The warmth quickly spread across Lu Jiu’s entire face.
Lin Ling quite liked this girl who had prepared a bouquet for her. Women appreciate beauty, after all.
When she first saw Lu Jiu at the wedding a few days ago, she had been stunned by her beauty.
And now, seeing her wearing that pink, figure-hugging cheongsam, which perfectly outlined her graceful figure, Lin Ling couldn’t help but admire her even more.
Seeing how easily Lu Jiu blushed, Lin Ling, fond of the beauty before her, gave her a reassuring wink, as if to say, “Don’t worry, I won’t tell.”
Lu Jiu…
Feeling even more embarrassed, Lu Jiu suddenly became bold and pinched her boyfriend’s palm in retaliation.
But Wei Shian, who didn’t feel any pain, thought his girlfriend was being playful, and with a low chuckle, he interlaced his fingers with hers.
Lu Jiu…

Due to their professions, none of them drank alcohol.
But that didn’t dampen the lively atmosphere at all.
They kept coming up with one game after another.
Luckily, since the group wasn’t familiar with Lu Jiu, and with the intimidating Wei Shian shielding her, she only had to focus on eating and watching the fun.
At least, that’s what she thought.
Just as Lu Jiu was almost full, the attention finally turned to her:
“Sis-in-law, tell us how you and Captain Wei met.”
“Yeah, Little Lu, Old Wei is as tight-lipped as a clam. We couldn’t get anything out of him.”
Not expecting to be asked about herself, Lu Jiu didn’t rush to answer and instead looked at the man beside her.
Wei Shian raised his eyebrows, “If you don’t want to talk about it, you don’t have to.”
Since there was nothing she couldn’t say, Lu Jiu recounted the mishap of their first meeting.
Luo Wei was the first to exclaim, “No wonder when we were capturing Zhao Dashan, sis-in-law, you were giving the captain food and drink. It was a classic case of a hero saving a damsel in distress, huh?”
Lin Ling was also curious, “So, was it love at first sight for you two?”
Lu Jiu thought for a moment and shook her head, “No.” If she calculated it seriously, it was probably the fourth or fifth time they met that she started to like him.
Thinking of this, she looked at her boyfriend again. “I remember the first time we met, you didn’t even get a good look at me.”
Wei Shian laughed. They really couldn’t count it as love at first sight; back then, she looked like a little kitten with a dirty face. Besides, “I was also a bit annoyed at that time, annoyed that you had randomly picked a place to sit.”
Hearing this, everyone started jeering again, “Old Wei, you’re done for! How could you say that about your girlfriend?”
Even though it had been half a year, Lu Jiu still felt the need to explain, “Actually, when Lu’s Department Store was being built, they were worried about people doing something rash, so they specifically installed transparent netting on the perimeter.”
And to avoid affecting the building’s aesthetics, the netting was regularly replaced and cleaned, so if you weren’t paying attention, it was hard to see with the naked eye.
Most people were hearing this for the first time, and they all praised Lu’s foresight…
The meal lasted over two hours.
Since gatherings were rare, the group wasn’t ready to call it a night yet and suggested going to a karaoke bar for some singing.
Knowing his girlfriend didn’t like overly noisy places, Wei Shian declined the invitation outright and handed Luo Wei a few hundred yuan to take care of things in his place.
“Is it really okay for us to leave like this? I wouldn’t mind staying a bit longer,” Lu Jiu said, still feeling a bit uneasy after they separated from the group.
Wei Shian led his girlfriend to the parking lot, opening the passenger door as he replied, “Why wouldn’t it be okay?”
“What could possibly be wrong?” Lu Jiu got into the car and instinctively reached for the seatbelt.
“Let me,” Wei Shian leaned over to help her.
As the familiar “click” sound of the seatbelt echoed, Lu Jiu softly protested, “I can buckle it myself.” She couldn’t help feeling like he was treating her like a child.
Wei Shian laughed, his voice deep and husky, “I know, but I want to do it for my girlfriend.”
Lu Jiu blushed again. She clutched her small purse, trying to sit up straight. “What did you mean earlier when you said something was wrong?”
