Chapter 9 : Lu Family’s Adopted Daughter

Mu Qianqian, unable to see well, eventually had Liu Yi come in to help her change into clean clothes.

However, she could still make out a blurry outline and manage to use the restroom and change her sanitary napkin on her own.

When Mu Qianqian came out of the bathroom, Fu Sichan was on the phone with his secretary.

“Mr. Fu, we found out. The car that hit the old lady was bribed by the adopted daughter of the Lu family.”

Upon hearing this, a cold flash of killing intent crossed Fu Sichan’s eyes. “Got it.”

Fu Sichan was not known for his compassion. Anyone who crossed him would face ruthless retaliation.

This woman dared to touch his bottom line, and thus, she could not be spared.

He had heard of the Lu family’s adopted daughter before. The Lu family had lost a daughter and mobilized all their connections to search, even reaching out to the Fu family, but they couldn’t find her in the end.

So, the Lu family had casually adopted a daughter and claimed her as their returned biological daughter. Only a few knew she was merely an adopted child without blood ties.

After Fu Sichan finished his call, Mu Qianqian softly asked, “Mr. Fu, are you staying here tonight?”

Fu Sichan gave her a cold glance.

That glance left Mu Qianqian feeling like she had been thrown into an ice cellar, unable to catch her breath.

Fu Sichan left the house with a cold demeanor.

Mu Qianqian was unsure of what had happened and stood there feeling helpless. “Did I do something to upset him?”

Was it because she had stained her dress, making him think she was messy?

But she was usually very clean.

Liu Yi comforted her, “Miss Mu, don’t overthink it. Mr. Fu must have had an urgent work matter, which is why he left suddenly.”

“Okay, I won’t hold it against him.”

“Are you going to sleep now? I’ll run a bath for you.”

As Mu Qianqian lay on the unfamiliar bed, she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.

Everything that had happened recently felt like a dream.

She had gone from lying on a small, cluttered bed at home to this large, soft bed that felt like a cloud, where she could stretch out comfortably without worrying about falling off.

She no longer had to eat leftover scraps and could enjoy plenty of meat, feeling full and energized.

In the past, her period would come with intense pain, and she would have to endure it while doing laundry and dishes for the family.

Perhaps the improved nutrition had strengthened her body, as she experienced no menstrual pain this time. She was truly grateful.

Once her vision fully recovered, she would be able to return to school, graduate, find a job, and earn money to repay Mr. Fu.

He had spent so much on her treatment, he must have exhausted his savings.

Mu Qianqian silently kept this gratitude in her heart.

Lost in these thoughts, Mu Qianqian soon drifted off to sleep.

In her dream, she saw Mr. Fu’s face, square and with thick lips, looking very stern but not particularly handsome.

Upon waking, Mu Qianqian couldn’t help but laugh at herself for dreaming such a thing.

Although she was a fan of good looks, if it were Mr. Fu, she would be willing to accept even if he wasn’t handsome.

Fu Sichan stood outside on the top floor, calling the shareholders “Withdraw our investment in the Lu family.”

Lu Yunbai, the heir of the Lu family, personally visited in a state of distress, “ Madam, our Lu family has cooperated with the Fu family for many years, always adhering to our duties and never acting out of line. Why have you suddenly withdrawn your investment?”

Old Lady Fu lived in a traditional Chinese garden. She sat under a pavilion, leisurely sipping tea, and replied, “I haven’t managed the company’s affairs for a long time. You’ll have to ask Sichan about that.”

Lu Yunbai smiled wryly, “We don’t have a way to contact Mr. Fu. What do you suggest?”

Lu Yunbai spoke earnestly, showing none of the usual arrogance of the Lu family heir as he implored the Fu family to reconsider.

Lu Yunbai was momentarily stunned, then realized she was referring to the adopted sister, Lu Yunxiang.

Yunxiang had always been scheming. Lu Yunbai had strongly opposed adopting her as a foster daughter, but the woman had managed to win their parents’ sympathy by mimicking his sister’s likes and gaining their favor, eventually being brought into their home.

The Lu family left the traditional Chinese garden after leaving behind some expensive gifts.

Old Lady Fu had just taken a sip of tea when she suddenly recalled that the young woman, Qianqian, bore some resemblance to Lu Yunbai.

Thinking of Lu Yunbai reminded her of Mrs. Lu.

Qianqian’s appearance was almost a replica of Mrs. Lu’s younger self. However, Mrs. Lu had become increasingly haggard over the years and had not appeared in public, so it had not occurred to her immediately.

Fearing she might be mistaken,Old Lady Fu instructed a servant, “Find me some old photos of Mrs. Lu.”

“Understood.”

Old Lady Fu smiled and wondered, “I wonder how Qianqian and Sichan are getting along.”

She hoped that the little girl hadn’t been frightened by her cold-hearted husband.
