When Xie Yufei entered the room, she saw that two of her companions had already woken up, while the other two were still unconscious from their severe injuries.
“Yufei, what was that just now? It sounded like you were talking to someone,” asked He Ning and Ding Zongsheng in unison.
Xie Yufei shook her head and explained, “While you were unconscious, a screen suddenly appeared in front of me. It called itself ‘cross dimensional Delivery’ and asked if I needed anti-inflammatory medicine. I clicked ‘Yes,’ and, believe it or not, they actually delivered it.”
“Cross dimensional delivery? I’ve never heard of that before,” He Ning pondered for a moment. “Could it be a new organization from another base?”
Xie Yufei shrugged. “I doubt it. The person who delivered the medicine was strange—she was riding a motorcycle.”
“A motorcycle? Like the ones they used to display in museums?” He Ning was also surprised. Nowadays, with everything in ruins, people rely on flying cars for transportation. Who would use a motorcycle? Those things stopped being produced ages ago and are long obsolete.”
“Exactly, one of those two-wheeled ones,” Xie Yufei added, still fixated on the sight of the long-haired delivery person. “She also had long, curly hair and looked very clean and tidy.”
“She mentioned that besides the anti-inflammatory medicine, she also had other supplies—food, clothing, and more. She asked if we were interested in trading. But there’s one catch: she doesn’t accept points; she only trades goods for goods. I think she’s interested in our safehouse.”
Xie Yufei didn’t hide anything from them. In a post-apocalyptic world, survival depends on trust and mutual support, which is how their group had managed to stay together.
Ding Zongsheng struggled to sit up. “Adjust the direction of the safehouse so we can all negotiate with her.”
As he spoke, he fished out a small, round sphere from his pocket, no bigger than a marble.
“Are you planning to trade your safehouse?” Xie Yufei questioned, not entirely on board with the idea. “Your safehouse has a higher safety rating than mine. Maybe we should use mine instead.”
“Just hear me out,” Ding Zongsheng licked his dry lips. “If she really has the supplies she claims, we need to show our sincerity. Supplies are expendable, but we still need a way to survive. Even if the rescue team we called arrives, the cost will be something we’ll have to repay for a long time. Compared to that, the safehouse isn’t that important. If we can get more medicine in exchange, everything will be worth it when we return to the base.”
“He’s right,” He Ning agreed. “We don’t know why she’s interested in the safehouse, but if she can reach the base, she could easily buy one herself. Maybe this ‘cross dimensional delivery’ is our opportunity.”
“Then let’s take the gamble,” Xie Yufei conceded, quickly understanding their reasoning. They had multiple safehouses, and they were only staying together this time because everyone was injured and needed close care. Trading one wasn’t a big deal as long as they could survive.
She walked over to a corner and made some adjustments. The safehouse began to rotate.
Outside, Yun Tutu watched in awe as the building started to move, and the door that was originally on the side turned to face her.
“This… this house can move?” Yun Tutu was amazed.
“There’s a lot you haven’t seen. The world is full of wonders. If you ever get to a cultivation world, you’ll see things even more incredible,” replied Song Song.
Yun Tutu, quick to catch on, played along. “Then I’ll rely on you to broaden my horizons. But how on earth is this house built?”
“That’s for you to negotiate with them. I can’t help you with technical matters.”
Yun Tutu wasn’t upset. She knew she couldn’t rely on Song Song for everything. If she could bring this technology back, she was confident she could eventually figure out how it worked.
When Xie Yufei opened the door again, Yun Tutu caught a glimpse of the inside, where two of Xie Yufei’s companions, a man and a woman, were staring back at her.
They were lying on a carpeted floor, curiously observing Yun Tutu.
Just as Yufei had described, the newcomer had a head of beautiful hair and looked incredibly clean, with a slight roundness to her cheeks that suggested she hadn’t faced much hardship.
“I’m sorry we can’t get up to greet you properly; we’re injured,” said Ding Zongsheng, the team leader, who was responsible for external negotiations.
“No need to apologize,” Yun Tutu replied, noticing the two other people lying there and wondering if they were alive or dead. “I believe Yufei has explained the situation. If you’re interested in trading, we can discuss the details.”
“Let me introduce us first. I’m Ding Zongsheng, the team leader. This is He Ning and Xie Yufei. How should we address you?” Ding Zongsheng asked politely.
“I’m Yun Tutu,” she introduced herself, knowing that the negotiation would mainly be with Ding Zongsheng. Although Yufei initiated the deal, completing the trade with them would fulfill her task.
“Why don’t you take a look at the items I brought?” Yun Tutu suggested, laying out several kinds of anti-inflammatory medicine. “You can see what you need, and then we can talk about the terms.”
Ding Zongsheng, unsure of the medicine’s efficacy, hesitated. “Would you mind if I inspect them first?”
Yun Tutu had no objections. These items couldn’t be taken by force anyway. She picked out a few samples and placed them on the ground.
Yufei carried the items inside, surprised to see that the medicine was still packaged in clean boxes. Even Ding Zongsheng was taken aback; it had been a long time since they had seen such clean cardboard.
Since the apocalypse began, people had been focused solely on survival, and packaging was a luxury few could afford. The medicines they had brought with them were all in sealed containers to save space and preserve efficacy.
After inspecting the items and carefully reading the labels, Ding Zongsheng concluded that the medicine was much better than nothing. “These look good. How much do you have?”
Yun Tutu looked at the wounded and, knowing they needed the medicine desperately, didn’t try to haggle too much. “I can offer five sets like this, in exchange for one safehouse.”
“Five sets?” Ding Zongsheng pointed to the items in front of him. “This counts as one set?”
The quantity was considerable. If taken to the base, these could easily be traded for a safehouse.
He wondered if he had misheard—five sets for one safehouse? But instead of showing excitement, he pondered for a moment and said, “That doesn’t seem like a fair trade…”
Yun Tutu’s heart skipped a beat. “I can go up to ten sets, but no more.”
“Deal,” Ding Zongsheng agreed without hesitation. Today was a big win for them.
