Chapter 72 : Weird
Mu Qianqian had just come out of school when she unexpectedly ran into someone she didn’t want to see.
“Hey, you’re finally out of school. Your brother and I have been waiting for you for a while.”
Hearing Mu Mother’s voice, Mu Qianqian’s mind immediately went on high alert, and her face turned pale with fear.
“What are you doing here?”
Mu Qianqian took a couple of steps back, nervously glancing around.
She reached into her pocket to get her phone, ready to call her Mr. at any moment.
After all, the impact her family had on her was too great.
Seeing her defensive attitude, Mu Mother’s face immediately fell, and she scolded her as usual “Look at you, so frightened. I’m your mother, why would I harm you? Your brother is having a sports meet today and isn’t in class, so I brought him here to find you. Can’t we just have a meal together? Now that you’re successful, you don’t care about your poor parents anymore, right?”
She remembered Mu’s father’s instructions and didn’t dare to say anything too harsh.
You have to coax this girl and get her to give money to the family.
“I, that’s not what I meant.” Mu Qianqian was at a loss.
“Okay, stop talking about these useless things. Take me and your brother to have a meal. Your brother has been running all morning and is starving.”
Mu Chengyao said impatiently, “I’m almost starving, why are you still talking nonsense here? Take me to eat something.”
Mu Qianqian hesitated for a moment and nodded, “Okay.”
She has poor eyesight and often uses a blind stick to find her way.
Mu Chengyao saw it and covered his mouth to laugh at her, “Mom, look at her like this, it’s so funny. She was so good before, but she insisted on saving people and turned herself into a blind person. She must be mentally ill.”
Mu’s mother winked at him and said, “Keep your voice down. Don’t let her hear it.”
Mu Chengyao didn’t say anything, but he always had a sarcastic smile on his face and a look of disdain in his eyes.
He recorded a video of Mu Qianqian’s back as she walked and sent it to the class group to make fun of her.
“It’s so funny, let me show you my blind sister.”
“Mu Chengyao, your sister is studying at the Finance University? That’s impressive.”
“Hmph, what’s so impressive about it? She’s just a blind person now. Her life is basically over,” Mu Chengyao replied maliciously.
What use is it for a woman to be impressive? In the end, she’ll just get married and have children, and it’s like throwing water out.
He and his brother are the true pillars of the family.
At a nearby shopping mall, Mu Mother’s eyes darted around before she chose the most expensive-looking restaurant.
“This place will do. It’s rare for us to see you, so let’s have something nice.”
Normally, the Mu family wouldn’t even dare to enter such a restaurant.
Mu Qianqian numbly nodded.
The three of them entered the upscale restaurant. After looking at the menu, Mu Mother unceremoniously ordered the most expensive dishes.
She handed the menu to her younger son, “Look through it and order whatever you want. Don’t worry about saving money for your sister.”
Mu Chengyao’s eyes showed greed as he quickly ordered a dozen dishes, “This one, this one, and all of these on this page, everything.”
“Then let’s start with these,” Mu Mother confirmed.
The waitress stood awkwardly to the side, “Does this lady not want to order?”
The Mu family was used to ignoring Mu Qianqian, always making her eat the leftover food at home. How could they possibly let her order food?
Did she even deserve it?
Mu Mother rolled her eyes and said curtly, “Just get her a bowl of rice.”
The waitress gave an awkward smile, “Alright.”
She had never seen such a peculiar family before.
The parents and their son ordered so many expensive dishes, yet they only got their daughter a bowl of rice?
It was truly an obvious case of favoritism.
Soon, the dishes they ordered began to arrive one after another.
Mu Chengyao attacked the steak as if he hadn’t eaten meat in ages.
“This place really lives up to its reputation. The food tastes so much better than the crappy little restaurant we usually go to.”
Mu Mother, who normally would never indulge in meat and always gave it to Mu Father and the sons, was now eating with relish, savoring every bite.
After all, since this girl had attached herself to a wealthy man, they had plenty of money. If it wasn’t going to be spent by family, who else should it go to? It definitely shouldn’t go to outsiders!
The mother and son ate ravenously, stuffing their faces without restraint.
In front of Mu Qianqian was only a bowl of white rice.
She noticed that a plate of steak was untouched and thought it might have been saved for her by Mu Mother. As she reached for the knife and fork,
“Smack!”
Mu Mother slapped the back of her hand hard, instantly reddening it.
She scolded loudly, “Why are you so greedy! Why are you reaching for the food? Wait until Chengyao is done, you can have the leftovers. Why are you in such a hurry?”
The slap and the scolding drew the attention of many diners in the restaurant.
Everyone was watching this bizarre family “What’s with this family? They’re not letting the daughter have any of the food? It’s all going to their son.”
“This must be favoritism. That poor girl looks so thin and pitiful.”
“That’s probably her brother over there. He’s so fat, like a pig. He’s eating enough for both the girl and himself.”
Who would have thought that Mu Chengyao wasn’t actually her brother but her younger brother?
He was just so over-nourished, tall, and fat that he looked older than the thin and small Mu Qianqian.
Mu Qianqian quietly lowered her head, tears welling up in her eyes.
She pinched her fingertips hard to suppress the urge to cry.
The commotion had attracted the attention of guests upstairs.
“Eh, isn’t that Qianqian?” Ye Wanqing immediately recognized Mu Qianqian.
“Who are those people with her? How can they just hit her like that?”
Ye Wanqing couldn’t help but feel indignant for Mu Qianqian.
Ye Xuanlin glanced downstairs and said, “That’s their own business. Don’t get involved.”
“But Mu Qianqian is my good friend! If I don’t care about her, who will? Even if they are her family, they shouldn’t treat her like that!”
Ye Wanqing clenched her fist, put down her knife and fork, and stood up to leave.
Worried that his sister might get into trouble, Ye Xuanlin followed her downstairs.
“Qianqian, who are these two people?” Ye Wanqing asked, smiling, as she approached Mu Qianqian.
Hearing her friend’s voice, Mu Qianqian was a bit surprised.
“Wanqing? What are you doing here?”
“I came out to eat with my brother and happened to run into you.”
Standing next to Ye Wanqing was a tall and upright man, who must be her brother, Ye Xuanlin.
“These two are my family. This is my mother, and this is my younger brother.”
Ye Wanqing smiled innocently, “Oh, so they’re your family. Qianqian, I have something I want to talk to you about. Could you come outside with me for a moment?”
“Sure.”
Mu Qianqian thought her friend really just wanted to talk, so she didn’t take anything with her.
Ye Wanqing grabbed her little yellow duck backpack.
Ye Xuanlin casually picked up her white cane.
The three of them walked out of the restaurant and into the beautifully landscaped courtyard.
“Qianqian, are those two really your family? Why are they so harsh with you?”
Mu Qianqian’s nose tinged with sorrow as she nodded, “They are my family, but… they don’t really love me.”
