Yun Tutu silently scolded herself for being too hasty. She had jumped at the offer too quickly, which was a mistake, revealing her lack of social experience and business acumen. It was a costly lesson.
“This is my safe house,” Ding Zongsheng explained, “I’ll have Yufei clear out the personal items inside. As for the safe house itself, with these medical supplies, I can always get a new one when we get back.”
Yun TuTu, eager to get her hands on the safe house, was already considering the possibilities. “Can you show me how this safe house operates? How to set it up, open, and close it?”
“Of course,” Ding Zongsheng handed the small orb to Xie Yufei, “Yufei, I’ll leave it to you.”
“No problem. I’ll make sure to clear out all your belongings, and we’ll keep some of these medicines for when we need to exchange for a new safe house later,” Xie Yufei assured him. She walked several meters away from Yun TuTu, then stopped and handed her the small orb.
Yun TuTu examined the orb, unsure where to start.
“Feel the surface carefully. There’s a slight indentation here. Press it gently to activate the safe house,” Xie Yufei instructed.
Following the instructions, Yun TuTu watched in awe as the tiny orb began to expand, eventually transforming into a house larger than the one Yufei and her team were currently using. This was incredible.
Xie Yufei noticed Yun TuTu’s reaction but chose not to comment, suspecting that such technology had been around for over 20 years—there was no way someone could be this unfamiliar with it.
“The door lock has a password…” Ding Zongsheng quickly provided the code when he saw that they had activated the safe house.
Yun TuTu watched as Xie Yufei removed a cover on the door, revealing a device similar to a modern keypad. After entering the password, the door swung open easily.
The house was slightly larger than the one Yufei’s team was using, but other than a few boxes of items along the edges, it was mostly empty.
“You can store items in here, but the total weight cannot exceed 1,000 kilograms,” Xie Yufei explained as she pressed down on the boxes, which then disappeared into thin air before Yun TuTu’s eyes.
“Is that some kind of spatial ability?” Yun TuTu asked, intrigued by the process.
Xie Yufei glanced at the ring on her finger. “…This is a storage space ring, which allows me to store items inside.”
“You didn’t know about this?” Xie Yufei examined Yun TuTu carefully. “You’re not from our world, are you?”
“Definitely not,” Yun TuTu replied, pointing at her motorcycle. “I’m just a delivery person, here because you placed an order through Cross-Dimensional Delivery Service”
“Cross-Dimensional? Is your world not in an apocalypse?” Xie Yufei asked, surprised.
Yun TuTu shook her head. “No, it’s just an ordinary world, but we don’t have technology as advanced as yours.”
“Could you take us away from here?” Xie Yufei asked, the desperation in her voice clear. Her team had no family left—if they could escape this miserable world, they would gladly do so.
Yun TuTu didn’t hesitate, “That’s impossible. I don’t belong to your world, and you don’t belong to mine.”
Who knows what hidden abilities these people might have? It wouldn’t be safe to bring them back and risk chaos in her own world. Even SongSong, who wouldn’t allow her to bring another person over for deliveries, would never agree to something like this.
“But I brought some other things. Are you interested?” Yun TuTu quickly shifted the conversation.
“Let’s take a look,” Xie Yufei said as she led Yun TuTu back into the safe house and showed her the control panel, which included options for defense, temperature control, and other settings.
Yun TuTu noted that all the words were familiar and indicated she understood.
When they left the house, Yun TuTu, following Xie Yufei’s instructions, entered the necessary commands, and the once towering house shrank back into a small orb, which now lay on the ground.
Yun TuTu picked up the orb and carefully placed it into her bag, double-checking to make sure it was secure.
“Here, I have compressed biscuits, canned meat, various vitamins… fever reducers, cold medicine, and other similar items.”
Xie Yufei was taken aback. How long had it been since she last heard of such things? Ever since the last bit of supplies had run out ten years ago, everyone had been surviving on nutrient solutions.
“Can we see those foods first?” Xie Yufei asked. While medicine was important, they were also desperate for real food.
Yun TuTu glanced meaningfully at the ring on Xie Yufei’s hand, her intentions clear.
“I’ll discuss it with my team,” Xie Yufei said, knowing it was best to let the captain make the final decision. “Let’s go together.”
Inside the safe house, Ding Zongsheng had already administered the medicine to the other two wounded members and treated their injuries.
“Will they be alright?” He Ning asked, still worried since the two hadn’t regained consciousness. The medicine was different from what their base had produced, and its effectiveness was still uncertain.
“This is all we can do now,” Ding Zongsheng said, looking out at the ruins. This mission had been a failure; not only had they returned empty-handed, but they had also been attacked by mutant beasts. The fact that they were still alive was a stroke of luck.
“Captain,” Xie Yufei whispered to Ding Zongsheng and He Ning, occasionally glancing back at Yun TuTu, who was waiting outside.
“It seems Yufei’s suspicions were correct. This person isn’t from our world,” Ding Zongsheng said, after observing the motorcycle for a few moments. “If what she says is true, we should try to exchange as much as possible. We can always say we found it in the ruins when we get back.”
Their mission had been to find essential supplies, and although this area had been searched many times, people occasionally got lucky.
As for the storage ring, they understood why Yun TuTu might want it. If she was from a world with lower technology, it made sense she would be interested in such a device.
“But I’m not good at negotiating,” Xie Yufei admitted, once again turning to Ding Zongsheng. “Can you handle the exchange, like before?”
She felt a bit useless, especially since the captain was injured. But negotiating wasn’t her strength. “I’ll use this storage ring. I’ll move the items to you in a bit.”
Ding Zongsheng shook his head and handed over his own ring. “Use mine. I’ll exchange it for points when we get back.”
If what Yun TuTu said was true, it would be worth it, even if it meant using ten storage rings. “This ring is a bit worn out, anyway, and I could use a new one.”
Xie Yufei quickly understood. Her own ring was relatively new, so it made more sense to use the captain’s.
They thought they were being discreet, but Yun TuTu had a hidden advantage. SongSong was providing her with a live feed of their conversation.
“SongSong, if you hadn’t shown me this, I would never have known what they were really thinking. I’m such an honest person—if I ever encountered truly crafty people, I’d probably be left with nothing but bones,” Yun TuTu lamented, pretending to be pitiful.
