Chapter 449: Cheng Courts Feng
At that moment, Ye Wenxin suddenly realized that, compared to evil, evil in ignorance was even more harmful. With a swift turn, she leapt into the air, and a vibrant flower blossomed beneath her feet, catching her securely.
Fairy Fengya also attempted to fly, but as soon as she took a step, she saw red petals drifting down. The petals once again transformed into blood-red butterflies, and turned back into blood flowers upon touching a human body, greedily consuming their victims’ blood.
Only blood could properly nourish Flower Burial’s flowers, and Ye Wenxin had mastered this move to perfection. She was smiling charmingly, but by now, everyone had stopped paying attention to her stunning beauty and began to run for their lives.
“As expected of the world’s strongest.” In the distance, Abbess Jiunan squinted her eyes. Cold sweat soaked her back, as she recalled the overwhelming coercive pressure she had felt while standing near the Demon Lord. If the Demon Lord hadn’t been disinterested in fighting at that moment, Abbess Jiunan believed she wouldn’t have made it out alive.
The others watched the Demon Lord’s moves with complex expressions. As far as they knew, Fairy Fengya was merely at the Soul Transformation stage, nowhere near a match for the Demon Lord, who had already reached second-stage Tribulation.
Watching Fairy Fengya seemingly fight with all her might, everyone assumed she was pushing herself to the limit while the Demon Lord was toying with her. But the reality was entirely different. Fairy Fengya was deliberately slowing down, trying to force Ye Wenxin to reveal more of her moves.
“What other flowers do you have?” Fairy Fengya’s question caught Ye Wenxin off guard. She had thought Fairy Fengya was testing her cultivation level and strength, but she hadn’t expected her to be asking about flowers.
Seeing that Fairy Fengya was genuinely interested, Ye Wenxin actually conjured a bouquet of roses. With a gentle blow, the roses began drifting in the air—vivid like blood, phantasmagorically beautiful. It was the first time Ye Wenxin found a different use for Flower Burial. Instead of attacking Fairy Fengya, she plucked one of the roses and tossed it toward her.
Fairy Fengya actually caught the flower in her hand, and the crowd grew tense, thinking the Demon Lord was attempting to use seduction to break down Fairy Fengya’s mental defenses. Even though everyone knew the Demon Lord was quite demented, they also acknowledged that she was the second most beautiful woman in the world.
Fairy Fengya, however, seemed only puzzled as she was holding the flower, as if she didn’t understand what Ye Wenxin was trying to convey. Fairy Fengya was the only one under these heavens who possessed such an utter lack of romantic sensibility.
“Flowers for a beauty,” Ye Wenxin explained with a smile. The crowd collectively gasped at her words.
“I’ve heard the Demon Lord is quite fond of women—seems it’s true.”
“Yeah, just look—she’s even going after someone from our immortal sects. Has she already conquered all the demon sects…?”
Whispers filled the air. Earlier, everyone had been struggling to avoid the devastating aftershocks of their battle, and now they stood covered in dust. The surroundings were in complete ruin—nothing but a wasteland. The once deadly battle had suddenly turned into a flirtatious exchange, leaving everyone feeling as though they should be burning incense and praying.
The crowd was conflicted, knowing that the Demon Lord was shamelessly flirting with Fairy Fengya, the top beauty of their immortal sects. If they tried to intervene, they knew they couldn’t beat the Demon Lord, but if they didn’t, it would be a disgrace to the immortal sects.
The awkward atmosphere continued to spread. Ye Wenxin smiled softly, just about to plan her exit, when she saw Fairy Fengya crush the bouquet in her hand. She had done it out of curiosity about the flower’s composition, and with a light squeeze, the petals vanished, leaving only traces of blood.
Since Flower Burial used blood as a medium, Ye Wenxin never worried about running out of ways to use Flower Burial. At worst, she could use her own blood as a medium to unleash its powerful force.
Ye Wenxin wasn’t concerned, as more flowers appeared in her hand, drifting down again. The crowd panicked, thinking Fairy Fengya had enraged the Demon Lord, but when the blood flowers fell, they were harmless.
In the blink of an eye, the Demon Lord had disappeared, and her distant voice echoed through the air: “You will pay your dues sooner or later, Fairy Fengya.”
This was the first time Ye Wenxin openly addressed the issue of her stolen disciples, even though she had already learned the truth from Fairy Fengya. Still, she needed to maintain appearances and keep up the pretense for now…
Fairy Fengya remained frozen in place, watching the departing figure. As blood-red flowers continued to fall like rain—a scene so beautiful, so chilling, and so final—Great-Grandma’s voice sounded in Fairy Fengya’s mind.
Great-Grandma: Mistress, that was Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng. If you don’t kill her now, you won’t get another chance.
Fairy Fengya: Is that so?
Fairy Fengya responded with a question, as if she had sensed something unusual. Yet, she didn’t voice these suspicions to Great-Grandma.
Great-Grandma’s voice grew more urgent, almost on the verge of hysterical shouting. She tried to snap Fairy Fengya out of it, but remembering her own ultimate goal, Great-Grandmother suppressed her fury.
Great Grandma: Mistress, mercy towards your enemy won’t bring you to the realm of ascension.
Fairy Fengya: But killing her won’t help me break free from my Tribulation of Emotions either.
Great-Grandma: ……
Great-Grandma suddenly sensed that Fairy Fengya had truly changed. She never had such a pragmatic mindset in the past, but recently, it seemed as if she had begun to reflect. She had learned to think for herself, and was no longer the puppet that could be easily controlled.
Fairy Fengya was very clever, but she clearly didn’t want to bother with these miscellaneous matters. However, if she chose to think about them, Great-Grandma had no way to manipulate her.
Despite all of Great-Grandma’s persuasion, Fairy Fengya didn’t pursue Ye Wenxin. Instead, she looked at the devastation around her, momentarily stunned. In that instant, as Fairy Fengya gazed back at the sky, she finally understood why that person had left in such a hurry.
The chaos at the scene continued. The death toll had exceeded a hundred before anyone had even directly faced the Demon Lord. More people arrived after receiving word, and tended to the wounded. Taking advantage of the confusion, Ye Wenxin transformed back into her minor character form before making her appearance.
She wanted to slip in unnoticed, but within seconds of arriving, Jin Xiaoqin caught her.
Jin Xiaoqin looked her over from head to toe with concern, making Ye Wenxin feel a bit awkward. Fortunately, she had spent the night with Long Qing’er, so there wasn’t too much information she needed to hide. Gu Xiangsi was also by her side, fussing over Ye Wenxin while recounting the recent danger.
She described how terrifying and powerful the Demon Lord was, how she faced off against Fairy Fengya, and even the romantic gesture of courtship, which Fairy Fengya had coldly rejected.
TL: Zhu Ling is now reduced to just Great-Grandma. Lol.
