Yeah, why does she hate Dad?
It didn’t seem like hate, just a lot of anger.
But now that she thought about it, she wasn’t that angry anymore.
Jiang Chen finished his work first, while the other dads were still busy. He had no intention of helping them. Once he finished cleaning up, he hurried to the pavilion.
There were already several children gathered there. The fathers didn’t want their kids to get heatstroke, so they let them play after working for a bit.
“Uncle, I want to eat plums. Can you take us to pick plums?” Jiang Xu pointed to a plum tree nearby and asked his uncle to help.
The tree was too tall for Jiang Xu, and when he tried to climb it, the staff stopped him. So he turned to the adults for help.
“I want to go too!” The other children chimed in after hearing Jiang Xu.
The plum tree belonged to the landowner. Earlier, they mentioned that the dads could bring their children to pick some plums to try.
Jiang Chen noticed that although Nian Nian didn’t say anything, she looked excited. Wanting to make her happy, he agreed.
“Uncle, I want to pick them myself. Can you hold me?” Jiang Xu didn’t want to eat the plums, he just wanted to have fun picking them.
Jiang Chen lifted Jiang Xu, and he happily reached up, picking a few plums.
He wanted to pick more, but his “superman uncle” quickly put him down and carried other children to pick plums.
Jiang Chen helped each child pick a few, and finally, it was Nian Nian’s turn.
Nian Nian was about to raise her arms to be lifted when her father suddenly crouched down, lifted her up onto his shoulders, and let her ride on his neck.
“Whoa!” Nian Nian grabbed her father’s hair to steady herself.
But her dad stood firm, his hands holding her safely on his shoulders.
“Don’t be scared. You won’t fall,” Jiang Chen said. “Pick as many plums as you want.”
Nian Nian realized she was sitting higher than all the other kids. She could reach the biggest, ripest plums.
She let go of her father’s hair and reached for the plum tree.
In the end, Nian Nian picked enough plums to fill half of her hat.
Jiang Xu, watching, saw Nian Nian’s hat filled with big, round plums. Then he looked at his and the other kids’ small handfuls of green plums.
This uncle was being a bit unfair. Nian Nian got to ride on his shoulders and pick for as long as she wanted, while they only got a few plums before he moved on.
“Uncle, I want to ride on your shoulders too. I want to pick more sweet plums!” Jiang Xu complained.
He had just tasted his plums, and they were sour and bitter.
“Okay, but you’ll need your dad for that,” Jiang Chen said. “I’m Nian Nian’s dad, and only she gets to ride on my shoulders.”
Jiang Xu: “…”
What his uncle said made sense, and he couldn’t argue with it.
Hearing her father’s words, Nian Nian’s eyebrows raised, and the corners of her mouth lifted into a smile.
To Dad, Nian Nian was clearly someone special.
She didn’t know exactly how, but she felt warm inside. She looked down at the plums in her hat, picked the ripest one, and took a bite. It was sour and sweet, just perfect.
Then she chose the greenest plum, waved to her dad, and motioned for him to lower his head.
Jiang Chen was fixing his clothes and hadn’t seen her gesture. Even though he didn’t know why she wanted him to bend down, he squatted and asked, “What’s up?”
Before he could react, Nian Nian quickly stuffed the green plum into his mouth.
“…” Jiang Chen bit down on the plum without thinking.
It was extremely sour.
He was about to spit it out when he heard his daughter say, “Good children shouldn’t waste food.”
“Even a good dad can’t do that,” Nian Nian, who had taught her father to cherish food, picked up another sweet plum and put it into her mouth.
Jiang Chen: “…”
According to Nian Nian, if he spit out the plum, it would mean that he wasn’t a good father.
What else could he do? He had to eat it.
Jiang Chen took a few bites of the plum and swallowed it before spitting out the core. His face wrinkled slightly from the sourness.
When Nian Nian saw her father’s expression, she finally smiled, feeling like she had pulled off a successful prank.
It’s her dad’s fault for always teasing her, so Nian Nian decided to get back at him!
[Hahaha, Nian Nian obviously did it on purpose. This is Nian Nian’s best revenge for all her dad’s tricks!]
[Good job, Nian Nian. You finally tricked your dad! Keep it up and get him again next time. Haha.]
[Even though brother-in-law Youzi is not very good at taking care of kids, his attitude is great. He apologizes to Nian Nian when he’s wrong, and he still ate the plum knowing she was messing with him. What a nice dad!]
[Ah, did you hear that? Mr. Jiang just said his shoulders are only for Nian Nian to ride on. I was so touched. I wish I had parents who would show me such clear love. Nian Nian is lucky.]
[Come on, President Jiang, keep being this sweet to Nian Nian. We want her to always be happy!]
After picking all the tomatoes, Nian Nian happily held her father’s hand as they went home.
The first thing Jiang Chen did when they got home was help Nian Nian wash her hair and give her a bath.
Jiang Chen felt guilty seeing his daughter so dirty. He hoped his wife wouldn’t get mad at him.
With Nian Nian’s guidance, although it wasn’t perfect, at least she was clean.
After changing into fresh clothes and drying her hair, Nian Nian was back to her clean, cheerful self.
Dad and Nian Nian rested for a while, and soon it was time for dinner.
Tonight, the dads had to cook. Each dad needed to make at least two dishes, and only their child could help.
Jiang Chen couldn’t cook. Everyone knew that—the dads, the show crew, and the audience.
[Brother-in-law Youzi is finally cooking! Everyone come watch!]
[I love this show! I never thought I’d see the big boss of Lingyu Capital cook. So funny!]
[Side note, I work at Lingyu Capital. Watching him here, he seems like a totally different person.]
[Tell us! What’s he like at work? How’s it different?]
[At work, just a look from him makes me nervous, but here, he’s so gentle. It feels like he’s a different person.]
As expected, Jiang Chen’s performance wasn’t great. He didn’t destroy the kitchen, but his steps were all wrong, and his methods were off.
He used dark soy sauce instead of vinegar and accidentally added sugar instead of salt.
Jiang Chen made all the mistakes a beginner would.
In the end, he managed to put two mystery dishes on the table.
The four dads made a total of ten dishes—Jiang Chen and Zhao Heng made two each, while Zhou Jingxing and Jiang Yuan made three.
Once all the food was ready, the kids, hungry from waiting, began eating—except for Jiang Chen’s dishes.
Jiang Chen, knowing nobody else would, tried his own food.
He picked up a piece of sweet and sour pork ribs, but it wasn’t sweet or sour—it was bitter.
