Some things seem fine when you keep them to yourself, but the moment they’re spoken aloud, they sound so cheesy that you wish you could turn back time and erase them. After reflecting on her conversation with Pei Hao, Yun Zhen realized her words had been a bit too emotional and impulsive.
After all, she had known Pei Hao for less than two weeks, and here she was telling him to trust and rely on her. It almost sounded like something out of a child abduction scam, where she was making grand promises to protect him until the end.
As a calm, rational, and mature adult, she should be more careful with her words next time, striving to maintain her dignified and serious “divine persona.” She absolutely couldn’t let her image crumble in front of the little people.
Pei Hao had similar thoughts. He couldn’t understand why he had ended up crying like a child in front of the goddess, as if he were whining to an elder. He had endured hardship and accumulated some mental pressure, but why couldn’t he hold it together? He should have expressed his gratitude to the goddess with poise and sincerity.
What if the goddess now thought he was a timid crybaby? How could he restore his image afterward?
Both of them tacitly agreed not to bring up that conversation again. After a candid exchange, they had truly become friends, despite being in different dimensions.
That evening, Pei Hao moved into his new home, excitedly exploring every room. He chose a room on the second floor and moved all his belongings and supplies from the yacht into it.
After dinner, he enthusiastically started planning how to modify the new house.
Yun Zhen watched all this with satisfaction, nodding to herself. The little person liked the house, and that made all her efforts worthwhile.
Eight days had passed since Pei Hao had last contacted his family.
During this time, he focused on repairing the base stations along the route leading to Yulong Mountain, hoping to help his family’s fleet find him more easily.
On the ninth morning, after a hurried breakfast, Pei Hao anxiously made his way down to the foot of the mountain.
The yacht he had inherited from the bandits was back at the water’s edge, moored at a makeshift dock. Pei Hao paced back and forth nearby, occasionally climbing to higher ground to look into the distance.
A tall red flag fluttered on the land—a gift from the goddess last night, meant to guide the Pei family’s fleet to him more quickly.
Yun Zhen also waited with him by the bookshelf, feeling just as tense as she watched Pei Hao’s anticipation.
It was said that Pei Hao’s elder brother was coming this time. What kind of little person would he be?
At 11 a.m., Pei Hao’s wristband rang.
He hurriedly answered, and sure enough, the familiar voice of his elder brother came through.
They exchanged a few words, with Pei Hao describing his location and the landmarks around him.
About ten minutes later, a large yacht appeared in the distance, with several upright figures standing on the deck.
Pei Hao immediately recognized his brother and started jumping up and down in excitement, waving his arms and shouting as he ran to the spot where the yacht would dock.
The scene was so joyful that it reminded Yun Zhen of Sun Wukong being freed from Five Elements Mountain.
After nearly a month of hardship, the young “little monkey” had finally found his family.
The luxurious private yacht eventually docked beside the one Pei Hao had inherited from the bandits, its grand design and sleek, high-tech exterior making the other yacht look pitifully shabby.
Just by looking at this extravagant yacht, one could imagine the immense wealth of the Pei family.
A handsome, refined man with a gentle and warm demeanor descended from the deck, followed by a group of subordinates and bodyguards.
Pei Hao rushed forward to embrace him, his voice filled with emotion as he called out, “Big Brother!” His tearful expression resembled that of a child who had finally found his parent after enduring endless suffering.
Pei Yan patted his brother’s shoulder, his voice soothing, “It’s alright now. I’m here to take you home. How’s your injury? Let Captain Ou take a look at you later.”
Earlier, when they had communicated, Pei Hao had recounted everything that had happened, including the betrayal and attempted murder by Luo Yihui and his rescue by the goddess.
Pei Yan had imagined his brother living in misery and had rushed day and night to reach him, only to find the kid doing just fine—in fact, he seemed to have gained some weight since the New Year.
Pei Hao cheerfully waved his hand, “The injuries have healed. The scars will fade with time, so don’t worry.”
Among the bodyguards, a young man in his twenties with a clean-cut hairstyle grinned and teased him, “Who was that crying like a baby earlier? I thought you were seriously injured. Little Hao Hao, did you miss me while you were out there on your own?”
Pei Hao’s face lit up with surprise as he called out, “Gao Yun! You’re here too?”
The man named Gao Yun walked over and ruffled Pei Hao’s hair, “I heard you’ve had a streak of bad luck—first betrayed by friends, then robbed by bandits. I’m here to ward off the bad luck for you, so you don’t croak before we get home.”
Gao Yun was true to his name; his luck was always a notch better than everyone else’s. Wherever he went, he would find treasures, and he had a knack for turning dangerous situations around. His comrades often called him “Lucky,” and those who went on missions with him always felt reassured.
Pei Hao, however, was unfazed, “I have the protection of a goddess and extraordinary luck. You can keep your little streak of good fortune for yourself.”
As he spoke, he suddenly remembered that the goddess was still waiting in the sky and hurriedly introduced both sides.
“Goddess, this is my older brother, Pei Yan. The bespectacled business elite next to him is his assistant, Xu Cheng. The rest are members of the Pei family’s elite bodyguard team. This is the team leader, Ou Shengjie, the deputy leader, Jiang Maochuan, and over here, we have Gao Yun, Xu Da…”
A group of people exchanged puzzled glances and looked up at the sky, but saw nothing.
Then they watched as Pei Hao pointed at the sky, his face beaming with excitement as he said, “There’s a powerful goddess up there. She saved me every time I was in danger and provided me with many precious supplies. She’s my most important benefactor!”
Pei Yan looked at his brother with concern, unsure how to respond.
He had heard about this before but had never believed in gods or ghosts. He wanted to correct his brother’s perception but was afraid it might hurt him.
Gao Yun, however, had no such reservations. He reached out to feel Pei Hao’s forehead and remarked in confusion, “No fever, but you’re already talking nonsense in broad daylight?”
Deputy leader Jiang Maochuan was a bit more blunt, “Could it be that Second Young Master was traumatized by the betrayal and is now suffering from hysteria? Better get a full medical checkup when we’re back in Beidu.”
Pei Hao’s smile faded as he sternly replied, “You don’t believe me? Look at the yacht beside us and the house down the mountain. Do you really think I could have gotten all these things on my own without divine help?”
