The Fragrant Slippery Bug
When Ye Mo saw the two of them busily rushing around, she couldn’t help but find it amusing. Yet, alongside the amusement was a deep sense of gratitude—they were genuinely looking out for her.
Thinking back to the original host’s experiences in the book, Ye Mo realized how foolish it was that she had missed out on such a wonderful aunt, only to mistakenly place her trust in her grandmother. This misstep ultimately led to her downfall, both emotionally and physically.
In the book, Grandma Yu’s role in Yu Mo’s tragic fate couldn’t be ignored. Had it not been for her, Yu Mo wouldn’t have been so blindly loyal to Feng Qi, a devotion that bordered on foolishness.
How utterly foolish it was!
Shaking her head, Ye Mo’s thoughts were interrupted by a phone call from Mo Mo.
“Momo, darling, how are you feeling?” Mo Mo’s primary concern was when exactly Ye Mo would give birth. After all, her belly was so big—it was enough to make anyone anxious!
“Don’t worry! Everything’s fine. The baby hasn’t shown any signs of coming yet,” Ye Mo replied with a smile. “How about on your end? Any new Zerg sightings?”
“Yeah, we’ve encountered a new one. It’s a milky white kind of bug.”
“Really? Send me a few—I want to take a closer look.” Ye Mo’s eyes lit up at the thought. Could these bugs possibly be edible?
“I compared them to the book; they resemble a creature called silkworm,” Mo Mo said as he shipped a few over to Ye Mo. He wanted to give her a heads-up, just in case she was squeamish about bugs.
Once the bugs arrived, Ye Mo immediately hung up the call. These creatures were about two meters long, with a body diameter of about forty to fifty centimetres. Their teeth looked rather sharp, and their bodies were a milky white, almost transparent, with a black stripe running down their backs.
“Though they do look a bit like silkworms, the stripe on their backs gives them a shrimp-like appearance,” Ye Mo remarked. She pulled the black line from one of the bugs’ backs, instantly making it look much cleaner.
After washing the bugs, Ye Mo placed them in a steamer. About an hour later, when she opened the steamer, a rich, fragrant aroma filled the air.
Were these Zerg sent to the galaxy just to provide food? The fragrance was so potent that no additional seasoning was even needed. Ye Mo sampled a piece, and the taste was absolutely divine.
She sent half of the batch to Mo Mo, advising him to either eat it as is or with a little vinegar. As for herself, she kept the remaining half, which was still a lot—more than enough for her and her aunt to enjoy.
Just then, Aunt Yu walked in and immediately exclaimed, “What is that smell? It’s incredible!”
“Aunt, these are the latest Zerg. Mo Mo just sent them,” Ye Mo said, handing her a spoon.
The aunt and niece duo began eating right away, savouring the deliciousness. The bugs were so flavourful that they didn’t even need any seasoning. To switch things up a bit, Ye Mo prepared some vinegar for dipping, which enhanced the taste even more.
After their meal, Ye Mo opened up her livestream, revealing only her hands as usual, keeping the rest of herself hidden from view.
As soon as the stream went live, countless people flocked to her channel.
“Master, what are you making today? I’ve got my pot ready and I’m all set to learn.”
“I’ve already opened up the store in District 8, but I don’t see any new species!”
“I’ve been eating locusts for days and haven’t gotten tired of them yet!”
“Of course you haven’t! Locusts are so good they’d taste better raw than any nutrient packet.”
“You ate them raw?”
“Just a figure of speech—don’t take it seriously!”
The chat was buzzing with conversation, but everyone kept their eyes on the screen, eagerly awaiting the master’s next words.
Ye Mo finally spoke, “Today, I’ll introduce you to a new edible Zerg species (this Zerg, I guess is some type of alien insect so if you see the insect then that is Zerg). This one is even easier to cook, and its flavour is fresh and fragrant. The meat is tender, and you don’t even need any seasoning—it’s truly delicious.”
Ye Mo picked up one of the large white bugs, and someone in the chat immediately identified it. “That’s a Slippery Bug. Its teeth are incredibly sharp. Don’t be fooled by its clean, white appearance—its teeth can even bite through a mecha.”
Ye Mo then demonstrated how to prepare the bug, pulling out the black line along its back, cleaning it, and placing it into the steamer.
When the time was up, Ye Mo opened the steamer, and the rich fragrance wafted through the livestream.
“The aroma is incredible!”
“I’m positive the master didn’t add any seasoning.”
“I feel like we’ve been wasting this delicacy for years, letting such good food slip by without realizing it!” These bugs had previously been discarded on battlefields without a second thought.
“I feel like I’ve missed out on billions of star coins. It hurts!”
“My heart hurts just thinking about it. How could we have overlooked something so delicious? Are any soldiers from District 8 here? When will you start selling Slippery Bugs? I’ve got my spoon ready!”
“Oh no, I need to hurry and buy a bigger steamer! Mine isn’t big enough for these bugs!”
This comment reminded everyone, and suddenly, there was a rush to buy steamers.
Meanwhile, on the battlefield where Mo Mo was stationed, the scent of the steamed bugs filled the entire area. The soldiers had captured the bugs and were steaming them on the spot, following Ye Mo’s livestream instructions.
As Ye Mo’s bugs finished cooking, so did theirs. The aroma was out of this world, and the soldiers were thoroughly enjoying themselves.
“General, I’m starting to feel reluctant to sell these,” one soldier admitted. They were just too delicious!
“We’ll sell part of the stock. We can price them higher and sell them in segments—about five catties per segment at 100 star coins each,” Mo Mo decided.
Soon, Slippery Bugs went up for sale in District 8, sold in segments rather than whole bugs.
Although some were disappointed their steamers wouldn’t be used now, no one regretted their purchase. After all, who knew if they’d encounter such large Zergs again in the future?
Soon, the aroma of Slippery Bugs filled the entire galaxy.
Elsewhere, the soldiers in Districts 3 and 4 started feeling envious of District 8. Originally, Districts 3 and 4 had been stationed in this region, but after a scheme against Mo Mo, which caused Mo Mo’s troops appeared in this region. Now, District 8 was thriving, and their soldiers were raking in profits.
Not wanting to miss out, Districts 3 and 4 hurried back, demanding that District 8 withdraw, as the area was technically their battlefield.
Mo Mo didn’t argue and led his soldiers away.
However, not long after their departure, a new Zerg invasion occurred. This time, the bugs resembled long, thin threads—red and poisonous, they moved swiftly and could easily penetrate mechs.
Districts 3 and 4 had broadcast the battle live, intending to showcase their efforts to the entire galaxy and to the master, hoping to receive tips on how to cook the new Zerg species.
