“Thank you, Goddess, for your help. These supplies far exceed our expectations! Aren’t you at a loss? Maybe we should offer some more gold?”
Pei Hao felt that the goddess was too generous and worried that she might be losing out by helping them so much.
Since the apocalypse began, currency has devalued, and the purchasing power of both virtual currencies and gold has dropped significantly.
Pei Yan shared the same concerns. He had traveled all the way from Shen City to here and had seen the state of things along the way.
Prices were soaring, and food and water were hard to come by. Even with a lot of money, there wasn’t much to buy. The supplies they received were extremely valuable and would greatly benefit the Pei family.
Three gold bars were nothing; he would gladly give thirty if it meant securing these supplies.
Yun Zhen, being a straightforward and honest person, was not interested in taking advantage of others in their time of need.
Money can eventually run out, and this apocalyptic disaster was far from over!
So, she responded, “Three gold bars can exchange for more than just these supplies. It’s just that your boat can’t carry any more. I’ll keep the rest for you. Whenever you need more, just come back to Huacheng to get it.”
Earlier, during her free time, she used a magnifying glass to take a closer look at the gold bars.
Each gold bar the Pei family offered weighed 500 grams. Three bars totaled 1,500 grams, and at the current price of 551 yuan per gram, they were worth 826,500 yuan!
She spent less than 1,000 yuan on the supplies she bought and hadn’t even given out a tenth of their value.
It was truly a profitable deal!
Thinking about this, Yun Zhen promised, “You can come to get more supplies anytime. If I can leave Huacheng in the future, I’ll even deliver them to you. I’ll cover all your meals for the next few days, so feel free to eat and drink as much as you want. Don’t worry about running out.”
The Pei brothers exchanged glances, happiness evident on their faces.
They hadn’t expected such a pleasant surprise. Although reaching Huacheng might be challenging, if they ever ran low on supplies, they would find a way to return.
Outside the bookshelf, Yun Zhen, having completed her first successful trade, was in high spirits.
Her next goal was to upgrade the system, unlock the zoom function, and turn gold into cash, becoming wealthy overnight!
1 a.m., inside the Lilliputian world.
Pei Yan was inside the mountainside villa, calculating and recording everything.
He was meticulously creating a detailed inventory of all the supplies, planning how to use and distribute them once they returned.
Pei Hao didn’t go to bed either; he was busy packing his belongings, thinking about what he needed to bring along.
He really liked the house the Immortal had given him, but it was a shame he hadn’t stayed in it for long before having to leave.
If only he could take the house with him, especially after working so hard to come up with a renovation plan.
The Pei family’s bodyguard team was split into two groups that night. Team leader Ou Shengjie, along with Xu Da and seven other bodyguards, stayed on the yacht to protect the supplies. Pei Yan’s assistant, Xu Cheng, was also staying on the yacht.
Deputy team leader Jiang Maochuan and Gao Yun remained in the villa to protect the Pei brothers. They were currently discussing the night’s watch schedule.
The midsummer night sky was thick with clouds, quietly brewing a terrifying disaster.
Bodyguards Xu Da and Zhang Yong were leaving the villa to deliver some documents to their boss.
As they habitually scanned their surroundings, they noticed something strange about the sky.
“Is it about to rain? The density of lightning seems unusually high,” Zhang Yong remarked just as a blinding flash of lightning illuminated the nearby area.
The sky crackled with lightning, branching out in a web-like pattern, as if it was tearing the heavens apart.
Boom!
The thunder roared, sending shockwaves through the ground, as if a divine hammer was striking directly above them.
The two men outside immediately sensed danger and quickened their pace toward the yacht.
“Hurry! It’s starting to rain! We can’t stay outside in this weather.”
Xu Da urged, and the two men broke into a run.
Raindrops the size of beans began to pour down, quickly escalating into a torrential downpour.
The Pei family’s bodyguards had faced countless dangers and natural disasters on their journey south. Each bodyguard was well-versed in emergency procedures and should have been able to avoid any fatal incidents.
But tonight was different. The force of the disaster was far greater than anything they had encountered before.
The lightning lit up Huacheng as if it were daylight, and the deafening thunder threatened to shatter their hearts.
Though the path ahead seemed clear, the two bodyguards felt as if death was closing in on them.
Suddenly, a bright white light flashed on the distant horizon.
Some invisible energy seemed to emanate from deep within the earth.
Zhang Yong wiped the rain from his face and frowned. “What was that? Did the lightning strike the ground?”
Xu Da’s mind raced as he ran, his face turning pale as he shouted, “That’s earthquake lightning! Run! An earthquake is coming!”
The two men sprinted toward the yacht, pulling out their walkie-talkies to report, “Earthquake! Take cover!”
But before they could finish their warning, the ground beneath them began to shake violently.
The entire Yulong Mountain trembled as fissures opened up around them.
Zhang Yong and Xu Da desperately searched for a safe path, but a bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree. The residual electric current traveled through the rain-soaked ground, electrocuting Zhang Yong as he ran.
With a scream, he collapsed, paralyzed, but managed to activate his protective capsule with his last ounce of strength.
“Zhang Yong—!”
Xu Da called out in panic, trying to reach him.
But a falling rock from the mountain struck the back of his head.
As he lost consciousness, his fingers reflexively pressed the capsule’s button.
A large spherical capsule quickly inflated, enveloping the bloodied Xu Da.
Even as the ground continued to shake and lightning struck the mountain, the two men were safely encased in their capsules, rolling uncontrollably with the terrain.
“Xu Da, Zhang Yong, what’s your status? Report your position!”
Inside the villa, Gao Yun anxiously called out to them over the walkie-talkie.
But there was no response from the other end.
The Pei brothers, along with Gao Yun and Jiang Maochuan, were gathered in the living room, clutching a round button in their right palms.
The villa door was left wide open, ready for them to bolt at a moment’s notice.
The method of taking cover had changed from the past. To activate the protective capsule, one had to be in an open area.
These protective capsules were disaster-proof devices developed by Pei’s tech company. The capsules were highly elastic and durable, resistant to fire, water, lightning, tearing, and crushing.
However, they had two drawbacks. First, they needed to be worn like clothing, which could feel stuffy in hot weather. Second, the oxygen supply within the capsule could only last for five hours. If the capsule wasn’t deactivated in time, the person inside could suffocate.
With no response from the other end, it was clear that Xu Da and Zhang Yong had lost consciousness.
Now, a super thunderstorm was raging, bringing with it fierce winds and torrential rain. The terrifying earthquake seemed as if it would tear Yulong Mountain apart.
With the mountain cracking under the force, the two injured and unconscious men could be swept away by the disaster at any moment.
Pei Yan stood in the shaking villa, his expression grim as he held steady. Gripping the walkie-talkie, he asked, “Shengjie, what’s the situation on the yacht? Can you see Zhang Yong and Xu Da?”
