Chapter 30
November 22nd, light snow, temperature drops sharply.
The class organized an event, going camping and barbecuing. By around 3 p.m., a strong wind picked up, and the temperature dropped to nearly ten degrees.
Youyi took shelter from the wind and sent a message to Fu Cheng: [Are you off work yet?]
Fu Cheng has been quite busy recently. He had signed a cooperation agreement with Shenglin University, and the training base would now host military training for every incoming class, along with other training activities.
For the students at Shenglin University, this was akin to a bad omen.
The stern methods of the chief instructor had already spread among the new students.
This would be passed down to every class in the future.
Fu Cheng quickly replied: [I’m free.]
He always responded to Youyi’s messages promptly, never making her wait too long. This message meant that even if he hadn’t finished work, he was available.
Youyi: [I’m underdressed today.]
She hadn’t checked the weather forecast before leaving and was only wearing a long dress. The drop in temperature had made her shiver with the cold.
Youyi: [Could you bring me a coat when you come home?]
Fu Cheng: [Address.]
Youyi sent him the address. It was a bit far, by the river, and even by car, it would take about twenty minutes.
Not to mention that Fu Cheng would first need to go home to get the coat for her.
Fu Cheng: [Wait for me for half an hour.]
“Youyou, we’re playing a game, come over quickly.” Sheng Sheng called out to Youyi.
They were playing games in the RV provided by the campsite. They had already played Werewolf and Turtle Soup, and now they were starting a new round of Truth or Dare.
Sheng Sheng pulled Youyi to sit beside her.
Huang Youyi, who found it uninteresting, had already gone to grill chicken legs. Tian Ning was also absent, and there were a few others playing, including Wei Jing.
Sheng Sheng, having just gotten over a breakup, was now in an excited state. Youyi didn’t want to dampen her mood, so she joined in.
Some of the questions were outrageous and Youyi wondered where Sheng Sheng had found them.
For example—
If you were stabbed while defecating, would you wipe yourself first or chase after the attacker?
Huang Youyi, who was grilling chicken legs nearby, concluded that Sheng Sheng was in a state of complete mental breakdown.
After a few rounds, Youyi’s phone rang.
Seeing that it was a WeChat message, she knew Fu Cheng had arrived.
Youyi stood up: “You guys continue playing, I’m going out for a bit.”
As soon as Youyi left, Wei Jing was chosen.
He chose Truth.
Sheng Sheng was excited: “Say the name of someone you have feelings for who’s here!”
Although the previous questions were outrageous, they hadn’t reached this level. Wei Jing looked towards the direction where Youyi had left, paused, and his face turned inexplicably red.
“I, I…” he stammered, and after a moment, said, “I’ll choose Dare instead!”
Youyi ran out of the campsite and not far away saw Fu Cheng’s car.
He was standing by the car door, holding a brown coat.
Youyi ran up to him.
The wind had messed up her hair. She tucked the stray strands behind her ear and lifted her face. When she saw Fu Cheng, she smiled.
“Why are you so quick?”
It hadn’t even been thirty minutes.
Fu Cheng helped her put on the coat. He held up the sleeves, so she only needed to slip her arms in and he buttoned it up for her.
Youyi’s fingers were very cold.
She pulled her fingers back and placed her hand on Fu Cheng’s neck, warming up as she sighed with relief.
Fu Cheng was the kind of person who exuded warmth no matter how little he wore.
He didn’t seem to feel the cold.
That’s why he was wearing just a single layer in the middle of winter.
Fu Cheng didn’t move his neck.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“We were playing games, like Werewolf and Truth or Dare. Do you know about them?”
These are games commonly played at their age. It’s not that Fu Cheng is too old, but he had been in the military for a long time, so he might not have encountered these kinds of games.
She asked with such genuine curiosity.
Fu Cheng replied, “I was only in the military for a few years, not completely cut off from the world.”
Besides, these games were already popular when he was in college.
But he wasn’t interested in them.
Youyi said, “I’m not very fond of them either.”
Werewolf is tolerable because it’s more entertaining, but Truth or Dare is pointless and invasive, aimed at prying into others’ privacy or creating artificial excitement, which makes it quite unnecessary.
Fu Cheng looked at her for a moment before softly asking, “What do you like to do for fun?”
Did she need to specifically mention it?
Youyi swallowed nervously.
She looked up at Fu Cheng. To see his entire face clearly, she had to lift her gaze slightly. He was standing where the wind was blowing, his short hair ruffled, his jawline sharp and defined, his nose high, and his eyes stern.
His face was strikingly attractive with its angular features. His eyes always had a cold glint, and when he wasn’t smiling, he looked a bit intimidating. His demeanor could be quite daunting.
Although he wasn’t one to smile much.
Youyi had only recently seen his face up close when he kissed her. When her eyes met his, her heart raced quickly. She could clearly see the deep black of his pupils, the edges well-defined, reflecting her face as if it were visible.
She was drawn to his looks.
Just as she liked his strong arms, his broad chest, and his imposing height, she also loved his face. Youyi found herself liking him more with each moment.
In a certain instant, Youyi’s heart found a clearer, more definitive answer.
It was rare to find someone who perfectly matched her preferences in every way, and it was even rarer for her heart to race in so many moments. They were almost—
The perfect match in the world.
Most of the time, they were.
Fu Cheng’s gaze lingered on her for a moment before he asked, “Do you want to kiss?”
He could tell she wanted to hug or kiss him just from her eyes.
The camping site was a few dozen meters away, and despite the sparse trees, people could be seen coming and going. Everyone was either playing games, barbecuing, or chatting.
Before Youyi could respond, he bent down and kissed her, pressing his hand against the back of her head, his tongue gently prying open her lips. His grip was firm, making it impossible for her to pull away.
Youyi let out a soft moan of pleasure.
She liked it so much.
Just the act of kissing reached a peak of enjoyment for her. The sensation of his strong, dominating presence was like being tossed around in a stormy sea, and she could only endure what the waves brought.
When she still had the strength, she tried to kiss him back.
When she couldn’t keep up, she didn’t pull away but softly whispered “Husband,” hoping he might stop.
Fu Cheng was utterly smitten by this side of her.
She was both delicate and tender, like she was being affectionate with him.
The wind blew around them, and what was once cold skin grew warm and heated.
When he finally let her go, a voice came from a loudspeaker behind them—
“Ding Youyi!”
“Will you let me take you home?”
The brave declaration made the surrounding area fall silent for a moment, then the loudspeaker was turned off with a beep, and Sheng Sheng was flustered.
“Our Youyi is not here, so it doesn’t count!”
Previously, Wei Jing’s dare was to bring someone he liked home.
Normally, such things would be overlooked. It’s just a game, and no one would take it too seriously.
But Wei Jing had used a loudspeaker to announce it.
At that moment, it seemed as if his voice was heard by everyone.
“But I only like her.”
No matter if she was present or not, he only had feelings for her.
Only Ding Youyi.
Classmates in the back started teasing, “Confess if you like her! Go on and confess!”
It seemed that Ding Youyi was not around.
Wei Jing had finally gathered the courage to speak out. Although he wasn’t bold in front of her, knowing she was likely nearby, he took the loudspeaker again.
“Ding Youyi, I’m Wei Jing. I want to tell you that I’ve always liked you.”
“From the first time I saw you in college, I couldn’t take my eyes off you. I know you’re beautiful and many people pursue you, but I like you not just because of your beauty.”
“You’re kind, gentle, and have a great personality. You’re like a bright moon high in the sky, the ideal type I’ve imagined many times. I really, really like you.”
With long-hidden feelings finally given a chance to be expressed, classmates around were recording videos on their phones to make sure Youyi heard him.
Yes, where was Ding Youyi?
Such a dramatic scene couldn’t be missed by the heroine.
Some classmates pointed out that they had seen her walk by earlier, so someone ran off to find her.
Fu Cheng released her and said, “Someone’s looking for you.”
“Youyi! Ding Youyi!” Enthusiastic classmates shouted from afar.
“I—I’ll go over first.” Youyi was flustered. She took a few steps forward, then stopped and said to Fu Cheng, “If you’re busy, you can head back first.”
Fu Cheng said nothing else and nodded, “Mm.”
As a few classmates ran over to find her, Youyi was immediately pulled away.
They ran so quickly that they didn’t see Fu Cheng.
“Youyi, Wei Jing is confessing to you!”
And so, Youyi was taken to the confession scene.
She had applied lipstick earlier, but now it had smudged, most of the color worn off, either by the wind or something else. Her eyes were red and shining, as if she were on the verge of tears.
Seeing Youyi, Wei Jing became nervous and stuttered again.
The words he had just spoken took all his courage. Since he had never been in a relationship, he didn’t know the subtleties, only that every word was heartfelt.
He only wanted to express these feelings to her, without asking for any response. For him, the most important thing was just to say it.
After saying it, he felt a sense of relief.
“Youyi, I know you don’t like others clinging to you. Don’t worry, I definitely won’t do that,” Wei Jing explained earnestly. “I hope my words today don’t burden you. If you could give me a little chance, I promise I’ll try my best. I… I…”
His words seemed to burn his mouth, making it hard for him to articulate.
Youyi never underestimate anyone’s sincere affection. Even if she couldn’t reciprocate it equally, she would still respond thoughtfully.
“Wei Jing, I’m sorry,” she said.
The moment she spoke, Wei Jing’s expression dimmed immediately.
“I’m really grateful for your feelings and for the words you’ve said today. In my heart, you’ve always been a good classmate and an outstanding person.”
“It’s just—” Youyi paused and said, “I have someone I like.”
Her tone and eyes were gentle when she spoke about the person she liked, but Wei Jing’s gaze grew increasingly dim. He looked like a deflated balloon, completely devoid of the courage he had moments before.
