{The temptation of the black card 2}
But Yu Suye never expected that Bian Yuan, who had already left, would come back.
In the same narrow, cramped hallway, the lighting suddenly seemed brighter, as if all the light in the corridor was shining just for him.
Bian Yuan, both in appearance and presence, was worthy of the spotlight that seemed to be focused on him.
“What did you just say?”
He blocked the male student’s path.
Perhaps because his girlfriend was present, the male student had been loudly protesting to save face.
“It was just a casual comment about another woman,” the student retorted.
Yu Suye had never seen Bian Yuan’s expression so stern before, but fortunately, she saw it today. His eyes held no trace of emotion, “She is not someone you can discuss.”
“Dude, are you kidding? Women like her are just after your money, aren’t they?” The young male student, emboldened by his own bravado, continued, “So what if she accepts it? Can’t I just make a casual remark about her?”
Yu Suye had a thick skin.
Since becoming a “fan” of Lin Wushen, she had been subject to various comments in almost every setting outside her dorm.
She had grown accustomed to it.
But she knew this didn’t make those remarks justified.
This was the first time someone was willing to speak up for her.
Under the intense light, Bian Yuan’s expression remained cold and devoid of any emotion as he said, “Shut up.”
“What’s the matter? Am I not allowed to speak freely in public?” The male student grew even more arrogant, “Is this mall yours? Do you have the right to tell me to be quiet?”
The man chuckled darkly, “What a coincidence, it actually is mine.”
Bian Yuan had been blending into the crowd for many years, trying to avoid using any special privileges. The expansion of public power often leads a businessman to become arrogant, eventually abusing their authority and becoming a “villain” criticized by others.
But now, he didn’t mind playing the “villain” role.
“Manager Huang, take him out and make sure people like him don’t get to mix in here again.”
His chin, deep in the shadows of the dimly lit corridor, shifted slightly as he casually enjoyed the astonished looks from others. Despite this, he still restrained his emotions, his eyes remaining cold and lackluster.
“Thank you, Mr. Bian.”
But Yu Suye still couldn’t accept such a significant gesture. Since Bian Yuan had returned, her first thought was to return the black card to him.
The gift was too generous.
Accepting the black card, Yu Suye felt that she might end up serving Bian Yuan like a servant.
“Don’t you want it?”
It was more like “not able to accept.”
Yu Suye still tried to maintain her dignity, saying, “Actually, I’m very happy to take care of a smart and well-behaved child like Xingxing. Money doesn’t matter.”
She maintained a smile.
“Opportunity knocks but once.”
Bian Yuan’s expression became more serious, and for the first time, his eyes flickered with a normal light. His words were seductive, “If you return it today, I really won’t give it to you again in the future.”
Yu Suye hesitated for a moment, feeling she was facing the greatest temptation of her life.
As a person, who doesn’t love money? No matter how many layers of moral buff she added, this was still something she yearned for.
Yu Suye had forgotten that her eyes were sparkling with excitement. Unconsciously, she asked, “How much is on it?”
“One million.”
One million! That’s almost enough for a down payment on a house in the suburbs of Jing City. She could even bring her parents over.
If it were just tens of thousands, she might have managed to accept it, and they could have taken care of Xingxing together before graduation.
But “a million” was truly thrilling.
Yu Suye struggled internally but still handed back the dazzling black card.
She escorted her “boss” to the KTV door, and a passing aunt happened to witness the scene.
The gossip started again.
Yu Suye couldn’t imagine how much trouble a black card could cause, but it was definitely something Bian Yuan would prefer not to face.
The aunt, adorned with colorful ribbons, said to her group of friends, “Did you see that? I told you to go out and have more fun! Did you see!?”
“The world nowadays is different from the past,” the middle-aged aunt said vividly, drawing many curious glances, “Now there are young girls who give money to old men!”
Yu Suye knew this was “slander,” a defamation and insult to people like Bian Yuan…
But she actually found it amusing.
It was interesting to see a big shot defend himself so effortlessly.
Yu Suye admitted she was a mundane person who enjoyed such scenes.
Bian Yuan, however, remained silent, slowly retrieving the card from his hand and carefully putting it away in front of everyone.
Yet, for some reason, Bian Yuan cast a glance at her.
Yu Suye felt this glance was significant. Only then did she realize that Bian Yuan had spoken up for her… and now it was her turn to reciprocate and help him out.
She knew she should avoid the “low pleasure” of watching others’ misfortunes.
But Yu Suye found she couldn’t help but laugh along with the group of aunts, though she restrained herself because of Bian Yuan’s presence.
Bian Yuan watched the girl try to laugh openly yet remain extremely “restrained” for the first time.
He didn’t mind being the source of amusement occasionally.
As the crowd dispersed, he watched the girl re-enter the KTV, seemingly tormented by guilt. He looked up, and Manager Huang, who had been trying not to laugh, suddenly had a very serious expression.
For the first time, Bian Yuan patted his subordinate’s shoulder with a relaxed demeanor and said, “Pay the bill.”
