Chapter 456: Blame It on the Dudou
“I see. So, this nun used the wrong amount, which is why it wasn’t…” Abbess Jiunan responded, almost letting something slip, but she quickly corrected herself. Ye Wenxin didn’t mind, and suddenly remembered the secret. She had come today specifically for Abbess Jiunan’s secret, but it seemed they had spent the entire day talking without addressing it.
“By the way, what’s the secret you were going to tell me, abbess?”
“This nun is truly exhausted today. This nun will tell you when you come back tomorrow, Benefactor.” Abbess Jiunan gave a vague smile. Ye Wenxin felt like this ‘secret’ didn’t actually exist, and was just a pretext to lure her here.
But she wasn’t as gullible as her foolish adopted brother, so there was no way she would fall for such tricks. While Abbess Jiunan was lost in the effects of the cooling herbs, Ye Wenxin quickly excused herself.
It was already midnight when she stepped outside, and everyone else had long since gone to bed. Long Qing’er, afraid that Ye Wenxin would once again take over her sleeping spot next to Fairy Fengya, had taken to sleeping in the middle of the bed, leaving Ye Wenxin a space to sleep as well.
But Ye Wenxin didn’t feel like squeezing in with Long Qing’er tonight. She decided not to return to the tent, and went for a walk. She didn’t feel like sleeping anyway, and she also wanted to sneak back to see if Abbess Jiunan had over-applied the medicine again.
With this mischievous thought in mind, she concealed her presence and quietly approached Abbess Jiunan’s tent. To her surprise, Abbess Jiunan wasn’t inside. Ye Wenxin searched the surrounding area, but still couldn’t find her.
“Sword Ghost, Ghost Mother. Try to find Abbess Jiunan.” Ye Wenxin released the Yin-Yang ghosts. The weakened Ghost Mother could no longer maintain her childish appearance and had reverted to her 16-year-old, beautiful form.
Upon hearing that Ye Wenxin was once again on the hunt for someone, Ghost Mother’s jealousy flared wildly. “Why should I help you find her? If you want her, find her yourself!” She retreated into the umbrella sword to sulk.
Ye Wenxin inwardly sighed. Sword Ghost tried to ease the situation, explaining that Ghost Mother had been harboring a deep grudge ever since Ye Wenxin had taken the Yin Pearl from her. Her grudge was so intense that she would love nothing more than to tear Ye Wenxin open and retrieve the pearl.
For some reason, Ghost Mother had done nothing, which made Ye Wenxin suspect that she was brewing some grand scheme. But since Ghost Mother couldn’t stir up much trouble on her own, Ye Wenxin didn’t dwell on it. Instead, she asked Sword Ghost to try and find Abbess Jiunan.
“Master, have you forgotten about your daughters?”
Only then did Ye Wenxin remember—she hadn’t seen her furballs in a while. She quickly summoned them, and eight furballs of various colors immediately appeared. They had grown noticeably larger since the last time, now roughly resembling cats. As soon as they saw Ye Wenxin, they began to shower her with affection, each one trying to win her favor.
“Red, White, and Blue. You three search for Abbess Jiunan over there.”
“Black, and Purple… You two search in that direction.”
Since the furballs were born from Celestial Master Zhong’s Colored Flags, Ye Wenxin officially named them the Colored Cats. But out of convenience, she continued to refer to them by the color of their fur.
After receiving their task, the eight cats immediately sprang into action. It wasn’t long before the white furball returned with a trophy.
This time, though, it wasn’t treasure—it was someone’s undergarment. Ye Wenxin was bemused. She wanted to instruct the white furball to return the dudou, but as she got closer, she caught a familiar scent.
The fragrance was all too familiar to Ye Wenxin, but even in her wildest dreams, she hadn’t expected that one of her furballs would have the guts to snatch this garment from the body of a certain female lead.
“You’ve done well.” Seeing the eager look in the furball’s eyes, Ye Wenxin reluctantly took the dudou, intending to confirm if it belonged to Fairy Fengya. However, she suddenly noticed the white furball’s innocent gaze.
That gaze seemed to question Ye Wenxin’s sudden action, and she awkwardly smiled. “I’m just checking the scent. Mmhm. After all, this woman’s dudou could fetch a few billion spirit stones.”
Considering that Fairy Fengya was renowned as the most beautiful woman in the world, her dudou would undoubtedly be valuable. If Ye Wenxin could really get her hands on Fairy Fengya’s garments, she might truly make a fortune.
As she said this, she even took a quick sniff, further confirming that this dudou indeed belonged to Fairy Fengya. However, the embroidery on it seemed oddly familiar. Looking closer, she noticed a small “Ye” character stitched at the edge.
In that instant, Ye Wenxin recalled the dudou she had previously lent to Fairy Fengya. Could it be…?
As this thought formed in her mind, a white figure suddenly appeared before her. Fairy Fengya was holding her Cold Soul Sword, and the intense chill in the air made it clear that her mood was anything but pleasant.
Ye Wenxin felt she really should thank this dear troublemaker for arousing the anger of a usually aloof Fairy Fengya. But the next moment, she realized something was off. Fairy Fengya’s swift attack was heading straight for the white furball.
The white furball was so frightened that it froze in place. A furball’s prided agility was rendered useless, in the face of Fairy Fengya’s incredible speed. Ye Wenxin quickly shouted, “Spare the furball!”
Fairy Fengya hesitated momentarily before performing a graceful aerial spin, but she couldn’t prevent her sharp sword intent from targeting the white furball. Ye Wenxin was unsure of the furballs’ resilience and worried that Fairy Fengya might kill White in an instant. She quickly decided to use her true strength to counter the attack.
However, the white furball’s survival instincts had activated. It opened its tiny mouth, revealing two very cute little fangs, and made a sound—a mix of a wolf’s howl and a cat’s meow, completely different from its appearance. Even more bizarrely, when the white furball let out its cry, the other furballs reappeared.
In an instant, the eight furballs merged and transformed into eight flags. Ye Wenxin was stunned as the Colored Flags immediately launched an attack against Fairy Fengya.
This sudden turn left Ye Wenxin dumbfounded. She had thought that after Ghost Mother birthed the furballs, they lost their ability to revert to the Colored Flags form. However, it seemed that Fairy Fengya’s provocation had triggered them to regain their original form and directly attack Fairy Fengya.
Fairy Fengya quickly realized the shift in the situation, and invoked the Nine Tribulations Exorcising Curse. Thunder and lightning erupted, but the Colored Flags remained unaffected. They surrounded Fairy Fengya, and transformed into threads that completely bound her.
This not only rendered Fairy Fengya’s attacks ineffective, but also completely subdued her. Fairy Fengya began to struggle desperately, but the Colored Flags’ threads tightened even more. Although originally designed to capture demonic beings, these flags proved to be just as effective against a person.
