Thunder rumbled through the sky as lightning slithered across the ground like a serpent, striking down one masked assassin after another. Each collapsed, convulsing before falling lifeless. Only then did Du Hangwu and his comrades catch their breath. They had known this was a dangerous mission, but no one expected to face multiple assassination attempts back to back.
The prisoners, who had just escaped the clutches of death, immediately fell to their knees, chanting praises to the “Lu family deity.” It wasn’t until then that the Lu family members realized their ancestor had intervened!
The elderly, women, and children who had been hiding in the woods rushed out. Lu Qing leaned heavily on his cane as he stumbled toward the battlefield where his family members had been fighting for their lives.
At that moment, Lu Xingyao and the others, no longer able to hold themselves up, collapsed onto the ground. Although assassins still remained, the arrival of their ancestor freed them from the terror of death, bringing a sense of peace.
When the families ran forward and saw their loved ones lying in pools of blood, they froze in horror. Song knelt beside her son, holding his bloodied body in her arms, her face streaming with tears. “Please save my son!” she cried.
Lu Xingyan, who knew some basic medicine, quickly examined the injured. He spoke quietly to those nearby, “They’re all surface wounds, nothing fatal. Stop the bleeding first. Move them into the tents.”
Without hesitation, others followed his orders, lifting the injured and moving them into the tents for treatment.
As Lu Xingyao lay on the ground, still able to move despite his injuries, he began binding his wounds with a piece of cloth, glancing over at the others who were being tended to. Watching their expressions of pain, he couldn’t help but grimace, “Ow—this hurts! Ouch, ouch, ouch!”
All eyes immediately turned toward Lu Xingyao. The others, though in obvious pain, were baffled by his exaggerated groaning.
Even those who had yet to utter a sound looked at him in disbelief. “…”
We’re the ones seriously hurt here, so why are you the one making a scene?
Lu Qing swatted his grandson on the head—not too hard but enough to stun him. “They’re the ones hurt. Why are you the one complaining?”
“But I got slashed multiple times too…” Lu Xingyao muttered, clearly aggrieved. The old man was too strict, not even letting him cry out in pain.
The other wounded family members gawked. Just moments ago, Lu Xingyao had fought valiantly, leading the charge. But now, in front of everyone, he was acting frail.
How irritating! He’s only doing this to win sympathy from the ancestor!
Before long, they all started complaining about their injuries as well, even louder than Lu Xingyao. None of them wanted to miss the chance to catch their ancestor’s attention.
Lu Xingyan was applying medicine with a cotton swab when the room filled with the sounds of their exaggerated screams. He paused, baffled. He was certain he hadn’t used that much pressure.
Hearing the cries of pain and seeing the blood-soaked bandages, Gu Xingzhao’s heart ached. How much pain must they be in? She knew the system’s store had painkillers, and after a quick search, she found that ordinary painkillers cost a few thousand points. However, a special painkiller, priced at ten thousand points, promised instant relief.
Usually frugal, Gu Xingzhao didn’t hesitate to buy twelve bottles immediately! Her descendants were suffering; how could she stand idly by?
“Lu Qing, I’ve brought some pain relief medicine. Distribute it to everyone and have them drink it immediately.”
At her words, Lu Qing’s frail body swayed with guilt. He understood now why the younger ones had been whining earlier—they were vying for the ancestor’s favor. “Thank you, revered ancestor. We are forever in your debt.”
With that, he led his son to retrieve the bottles from the basket. The containers were unlike anything they had seen—made of a transparent material, yet as solid as porcelain!
Lu Qing was astonished, never having seen such a peculiar bottle. Lu Zhou, equally shocked, remarked, “Father, what is this?”
“We have been blessed with pain-relief medicine from the ancestor,” Lu Qing replied.
The realization dawned on Lu Zhou. “Of course! Only a deity could possess such treasures.”
There were exactly twelve bottles, one for each injured person. Lu Qing carefully counted them before handing the bottles to Lu Zhou. “Go and distribute these to the others.”
Taking one bottle, Lu Qing personally approached his grandson. His cane was abandoned as he unscrewed the bottle cap. “Open your mouth,” he instructed firmly.
Though confused, Lu Xingyao obeyed.
Without hesitation, Lu Qing poured the contents of the bottle into his grandson’s mouth. “This is a divine medicine from the ancestor. Swallow it quickly.”
“???” Upon hearing it was a gift from the ancestor, Lu Xingyao was suddenly reluctant to swallow. He even considered spitting it back out to preserve it as a keepsake. After all, his injuries weren’t that severe.
But under the stern gaze of his grandfather, he had no choice but to gulp it down.
What surprised him, however, was that the moment he swallowed the medicine, the pain from his wounds vanished entirely.
The other family members who had taken the medicine were equally stunned, their eyes wide with disbelief as they exchanged glances. Was it an illusion?
Just a moment ago, their injuries had been throbbing with pain, but now it had disappeared entirely!
What kind of miraculous medicine had the ancestor given them? It was incredibly effective—but unfortunately, there was only one dose. Several of the less seriously injured individuals now regretted drinking the medicine so hastily. If they had known how valuable it was, they would have saved it for a more dire situation!
