Danger, Part 1
Late at night, as Ye Mo lay exhausted in Mo Mo’s arms, barely able to move her fingers, Mo Mo’s eyes suddenly snapped open. He gently loosened his hold on her and sat up.
“What’s wrong? Is it morning already?” Ye Mo was startled by his sudden movement and groggily asked.
Right now, she only felt incredibly tired. Despite being a cultivator herself, why did it always feel like she couldn’t recover properly? Meanwhile, Mo Mo seemed to be full of energy.
“Baby, go back to sleep. I’m just going to check on something!” Mo Mo had already dressed quickly.
He had seen something unusual.
Mo Mo’s cultivation had already reached the Nascent Soul stage, so his spiritual awareness could cover a vast area.
Just moments ago, as he routinely scanned the surroundings before bed, he noticed a beastman crossing the star region.
Such a feat would be impossible without an exceptionally strong physical body, as the chaotic currents in the star region could tear anyone apart.
While Mo Mo had confidence in his own ability to traverse the star region, this beastman had earned his respect.
The beastman was still far away, but spotting him meant they were getting very close to the beastmen’s territory.
Mo Mo left the room and headed straight for the control room. Based on their current route, they would definitely encounter the beastman. Mo Mo, however, had no intention of doing so. It wasn’t that he feared the beastman—far from it. As a cultivator, Mo Mo understood how difficult the path of cultivation was, and that was why he didn’t want to engage unnecessarily.
While battles are inevitable on the battlefield, Mo Mo wasn’t keen on provoking anyone off it. This particular beastman looked formidable but hadn’t crossed into interstellar space to cause harm.
Mo Mo respected such powerful beings who didn’t interfere with the lives of civilians.
He instructed the ship’s pilot to alter their course. The District 7’s fleet that followed them also adjusted their path. By now, they had become quite smart; they didn’t question anything. Following Mo Mo always led to good outcomes, and they knew better than to ask too many questions.
With the course change in place, Mo Mo returned to the room. Ye Mo was still fast asleep. After keeping her up twice last night, he couldn’t bear to wake her again. He gently pulled her into his arms and drifted off to sleep himself.
Truth be told, with his current cultivation level, Mo Mo didn’t need sleep at all. But seeing his wife sleep so peacefully, he couldn’t resist keeping her company.
The next morning, when Ye Mo took the children to look outside, the scene was beautifully bright. Although there was no sun-like star in sight, Ye Mo found the environment to be quite lovely.
They were now very close to beastmen territory, and Mo Mo was already plotting their landing point.
If they could avoid conflict with the beastmen, that would be ideal. But Mo Mo knew that was unlikely. What puzzled him was why the beastmen traveled such vast distances to attack the interstellar systems. After all, the beastmen had plenty of lush, verdant planets to live on here.
They didn’t lack resources, yet they acted as if there was some grave danger forcing them to invade the interstellar space. But was there truly something dangerous here?
As Mo Mo expanded his spiritual awareness, he quickly identified the first planet they could land on within beastman territory. The planet was lush and green, filled with normal-looking wildlife.
It looked like a perfect place for humans to live. More importantly, Mo Mo couldn’t detect any immediate danger.
Strange! Why was such a good planet uninhabited by the beastmen?
At that moment, Mo Mo noticed the beastman who had crossed the star region. The man was now unconscious, drifting near their battleship, caught in the star region’s currents.
Mo Mo immediately ordered the crew to bring the beastman aboard.
There are some things Mo Mo needed to learn about this region. For most people, interrogating a beastman would be difficult, but for Mo Mo and Ye Mo, it is a simple task.
Ye Mo quickly took out a pill and fed it to the beastman. Soon, the man awoke, though he still seemed a bit dazed.
Mo Mo wasted no time in questioning him. He knew a bit of the beastman language. “What’s your name?”
“Lu Ke,” replied the beastman. Lu Ke was a warrior among the beastmen, though his attempt to traverse the star region had almost cost him his life. He never imagined he’d be rescued.
“Lu Ke, the nearby planets look good, but why are there no beastmen living on them?”
“They only look good. But at night, no one can survive on those planets. People die.”
“Do you know why?”
“No one knows the reason. But almost everyone who stays through the night dies.”
“Almost everyone?” Ye Mo was shocked at his words. What kind of place caused such widespread death by nightfall? She felt an odd sense of foreboding.
She glanced at Mo Mo, who shook his head. “Lu Ke, is this the reason the beastmen are attacking the interstellar regions?”
Lu Ke shook his head. “Most of us beastmen don’t like war. Those attacking the interstellar space have made secret deals with the insectoids. The majority of the beastmen don’t support war.”
Beastmen were typically straightforward and kind-hearted. They didn’t go around picking fights or invading other territories. It was only a few rogue groups, those who had aligned with the insectoids, that were causing trouble. Many of those groups weren’t even humanoid in form.
There was a clear distinction between those rogue groups and the true beastmen.
After questioning Lu Ke for a while, Mo Mo learned that Lu Ke was deeply grateful to be rescued. He hadn’t expected to survive and was surprised to see that his rescuers were humans, not beastmen.
“What are humans doing out here?” Lu Ke asked curiously.
Ye Mo blinked and replied, “Well, your beastmen attacked us so much that we had nowhere else to go. We figured since you have plenty of space here, we might as well come over.”
Hearing this, Lu Ke frowned. “Many of the planets here aren’t fit for living. For example, those nearby might look peaceful during the day, but at night…”
Lu Ke seemed at a loss for words, unsure how to explain the danger that came with nightfall.
“Well, we’ll find out when we get there,” Mo Mo said.
“You mustn’t go near! Approaching them is just walking into death!” Lu Ke’s voice trembled as he spoke of those planets. Mo Mo almost doubted whether this trembling man could truly be called a strong beastman.
As the two battleships sailed closer to the green planet, they stopped short. Mo Mo informed the fleet following them that he would scout ahead to check for danger before they made their landing decision.
