Danger, Part 4
Ye Mo pulled Guaiguai into her arms. “Let’s wait a bit longer. We don’t know if there are any dangers inside. Although the records say the gnomes are peaceful, quite a few beast tribe members have disappeared there. We don’t know if the gnomes had anything to do with that.”
Are they really peaceful?
This was still a mystery, and Ye Mo knew some things had to be investigated personally. What was written in books might not always be true.
At that moment, Mo Mo and Yan Mingke had already landed on the planet. The ground felt real, the plants were real, and the entire planet was eerily silent. Occasionally, a small animal would scurry by, but upon closer inspection, it became clear that these animals weren’t real at all—they were just robots disguised as animals.
“Is this even necessary?” Yan Mingke kicked over a mechanical mouse.
“For the people inside, this is their best defence. With these things around, the average person wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. But it seems their technology is quite advanced,” Mo Mo observed as he examined the ground they stood on. “Building a spaceship like this is no small feat.”
“Concentrated brilliance!” Yan Mingke remarked, recalling an old saying, the shorter they are, the smarter they are. Because they only grow in brains but not in height.
The two of them walked slowly across the planet. There were clear paths between the plants for humans to pass through. However, something about the vegetation here makes Mo Mo feel odd. Yan Mingke pointed to a plant above his head, asking, “General Mo, this smells so fragrant. Can we eat it?”
“That’s a cucumber, a vegetable. It can be eaten raw,” Mo Mo said, picking one. But as he broke the cucumber in half, he froze.
Yan Mingke gulped in fear. “General Mo, why do I feel like this cucumber is terrifying? Why is it bleeding?”
Sure enough, blood oozed out of the cucumber, and had Mo Mo not stepped aside quickly, the red liquid would have dripped onto him.
“This place isn’t simple,” Mo Mo tossed the cucumber away, then took out a wet wipe to clean his hands. He felt disgusted by the cucumber’s strong metallic scent of blood.
This planet was far from ordinary.
Mo Mo had initially thought he could protect Yan Mingke with ease, but now he wasn’t so sure.
“General Yan, I’m sending you back first.” Without waiting for a reply, Mo Mo grabbed Yan Mingke and flew into the air.
As they took off, the cucumber vine lunged at them, trying to trap them. Mo Mo quickly slashed it away with a spell, cutting the vine.
But more vines came after them. Each vine was covered in small thorns. Momo dodged effortlessly, but Yan Mingke wasn’t so lucky and got struck by one.
Yan Mingke screamed in pain. The beating was unbearable!
Mo Mo teleported them back to the battleship in District Eight. As soon as they landed, Yan Mingke was still screaming, the pain was that intense.
Ye Mo approached with a bottle of water in hand. Seeing the injury on Yan Mingke’s ankle, she quickly took out a bottle of Vitality Water.
The wound on Yan Mingke’s ankle wasn’t a normal one.
Mo Mo took the Vitality Water from Ye Mo and made Yan Mingke sit down. He knelt and poured the water on Yan Mingke’s injury. Immediately, black smoke started rising from the wound.
“Ah! Ah!” Yan Mingke screamed in agony.
“This is…” Ye Mo’s eyes widened in shock. The injury was from dark energy, the same as the damage caused by ghost cultivators.
“Husband…”
Mo Mo frowned. “I didn’t even realize that vine was a ghost vine.” He rinsed it with water.
“Ghost vine?” Ye Mo blinked, feeling a bit ignorant. She had never heard of such a thing.
“You wouldn’t know. It’s a type of ghost plant cultivator, so we refer to them as ghost vines. But they don’t always take the form of cucumber vines.”
“Are they cannibals?” Ye Mo had seen how badly Yan Mingke was injured from just one lash. If someone were completely wrapped up in those vines, they’d be drained dry in an instant.
“Yes. If I’m not mistaken, the missing beast tribe members were likely devoured by those vines.”
“Why would they raise such evil things?” Ye Mo frowned. These gnomes weren’t as kind-hearted as they seemed. If they were, they wouldn’t be keeping such malevolent plants.
“Maybe they can’t do anything about this kind of thing!” Yan Mingke chimed in from the side.
Ye Mo frowned deeper. “Do you realize that if you are a little late, one second at most, you’d have been nothing but a dried-up husk?”
Yan Mingke swallowed nervously. “It wasn’t that bad, was it?”
Ye Mo looked at him in amusement. “Where do you think the blood in that cucumber came from?”
“Where… where did it come from?” Yan Mingke asked instinctively.
“If I’m not wrong, the missing beast tribe members were all absorbed by those vines.” Ye Mo reasoned that the gnomes had to be raising these things. Otherwise, how could they thrive so well?
“This planet…” Yan Mingke felt a little regretful. Such a lush, green planet, and they couldn’t even approach it.
“This isn’t even a planet. It’s the gnomes’ spaceship,” Mo Mo remarked with a frown. If the ghost vines were this hostile, it was a sign that the gnomes themselves weren’t very friendly either.
“So, we shouldn’t go there, right?” Yan Mingke’s tone was filled with frustration.
“Unless you have a death wish, I suggest we steer clear of that place,” Mo Mo instructed the crew to set course and move forward. He planned to bypass the planet and look for others. As for the gnomes’ spaceship, he had no interest in taking it. He didn’t want to deal with a bunch of ghost vines.
After all, as fellow dark cultivators, they couldn’t harm each other.
So, Mo Mo decided to detour.
What Mo Mo hadn’t expected, though, was that as they attempted to bypass the planet, it blocked their path.
A thick ghost vine began to stretch toward their battleship.
Mo Mo flew out of the ship and stood in front of it. “I don’t want any conflict with you. There are rules within the Dark Realm, but please don’t provoke us. I’m not easy to bully.”
Was Mo Mo easy to bully? That was a joke. He was now a powerful ghost lord. In the Dark Realm, he could easily become the ruler of a place there.
But the thick ghost vine seemed to ignore Mo Mo’s words and rushed towards him directly.
