Walking Towards You
WTY Chapter 1: The Funeral

It was an unforgettable rainy day, during a solemn funeral.

Everyone was dressed in black, holding black umbrellas, and their expressions were filled with sorrow.

Yet, there was one woman, in this silence, still hysterically yelling at another man.

The man’s face bore a fresh red handprint.

“Yan Shuoyun, didn’t I tell you not to come! Ever since my brother started hanging out with you, he’s been constantly getting hurt, even to the point that…” Fu Qin was crying hysterically.

“…to the point where he lost his life… sob sob… You don’t deserve to be here. I don’t want you here.”

Today was the funeral of her younger brother, Fu Yichen.

And the man she hated most came to see her brother.

“Please… just… just let me see Yichen one last time… just one glance is enough.” The man who had been hit, Yan Shuoyun, knelt down in the rain, not even bothering to hold an umbrella.

He let the rain pour down on him.

His eyes were so exhausted that he couldn’t even shed a single tear. He let the rain take over, as if the tears would flow for him.

The dull pain in his heart would never be soothed.

Fu Qin didn’t care whether Yan Shuoyun was kneeling in the rain. She kicked and stomped, trying to drive him away. “On what grounds? You two weren’t even that close! Get lost! You’re not welcome here!”

But others at the funeral thought it wasn’t right for Fu Qin to make such a scene during her brother’s funeral, so they held her back.

Fu Qin only cried even harder.

Yan Shuoyun let Fu Qin hit him, because if it weren’t for him, Fu Yichen wouldn’t be dead. He was, in some way, an indirect murderer. It was only right for his sister to hate him.

At the time, he was rejecting a funding request from a former school beauty queen he had once liked.

Who would have thought that the girl would hold a grudge and actually push him into the path of an oncoming car?

But someone pulled him out of the way, only to be hit themselves. That person died on the spot.

When he looked closely, he realized it was his close junior, the one who had followed him for ten years—Fu Yichen.

He held Fu Yichen in his arms, but the other boy was unresponsive, no matter how much he shook him.

In that moment, he was consumed by pain, and tears kept falling uncontrollably.

Why were you here?

He had so many questions he wanted to ask him.

After all, they had only just made plans that morning to meet somewhere else. How could he have ended up here?

Everything was a tangled mess, and he didn’t have time to process it all.

When Fu Yichen’s sister picked up the body at the hospital, she slapped him and handed him a letter.

She said it was from Yichen, meant for him, but after reading it, he was never to bother the Fu family again.

She even told him not to attend Yichen’s funeral, or else she would never forgive him.

Yan Shuoyun couldn’t understand. Why wasn’t he allowed to attend Yichen’s funeral? That is, until he muddled his way back home and opened the letter.

[To Senior Shuoyun]

Senior, do you remember our ten-year promise?

Ten years ago, I said I would confess to you every year, and I was determined to make you fall for me.

For nine years, I’ve confessed, and for nine years, you’ve avoided me, always saying you would consider it.

Though you allowed me to get a little closer to you year by year, we even became friends-with-benefits… I guess I’m still not satisfied.

This year marks the tenth anniversary. Senior, you have to accept me this time, okay?

If not, I’ll leave.

Sigh, just kidding. If you reject me after ten years, I won’t leave, but I’ll try to return to being just a friend.

Though I’m hoping… maybe we can extend our promise a little longer…

Just a little, please. Give me a chance.

Haha, but I won’t force you, Senior. I just want you to be happy.

—Yichen.

It was a sad yet optimistic confession letter.

This was Yichen’s handwriting.

It carried all the unrequited love he had for him over the years.

[This year marks the tenth anniversary. Senior, you have to accept me this time.]

[If not, I’ll leave.]

The moment Shuoyun read the part about leaving, he lost it. This wasn’t a reason for him to avoid the funeral.

If anything, this made him want to see Yichen even more, even if it was just for one last look.

Tears soaked the letter, but the one who wrote it would never return.
