Zhou Jinchuan coughed lightly and stood up, “I didn’t ask you so much.”
He then walked to the small table and sat down.
Xie Xiaoyun pursed his lips and smiled, “Oh, do you want to try it, Commander Zhou?”
Before he could finish, Zhou Jinchuan had already started opening the hot pot himself.
He had never seen such a hot pot before, yet he felt strangely familiar with it.
Xie Xiaoyun was more excited than him, “Sister Su Yi is really biased. My hot pot didn’t have as many meat dishes as yours, Commander Zhou!”
After saying that, he was afraid that Zhou Jinchuan would be annoyed, so he quickly stood up to leave, “Commander Zhou, I’ll go out if there’s nothing else!”
Zhou Jinchuan looked at the time, “Are you busy now?”
Xie Xiaoyun, “Not really, can I stay a while longer?”
Zhou Jinchuan didn’t answer directly, but just silently lowered his head and started eating.
After a while, he asked, “You said there were many people eating hot pot just now?”
“Yeah, I saw Sister Su Yi was sweating profusely.”
“Did she say anything else?”
Xie Xiaoyun looked up in surprise, feeling like today’s conversation was a bit difficult.
Commander Zhou’s thoughts were jumping around, he couldn’t keep up!
“Sister Su Yi didn’t say much. Oh, right, she asked me if you had been out recently. I told her you’ve been in the compound all this time.”
“Commander Zhou, did you guys have a fight? Why do you both seem a bit strange?”
Zhou Jinchuan pursed his lips, “No.”
Xie Xiaoyun: Okay!
……
On the other side, Su Yi finished her work and was about to go back.
As she reached the door, she saw Ye Xiaowu and Ye Nuannuan squatting at the entrance, catching rainwater with their hands while giggling.
Su Yi quickly walked over, “Why did you come over again?”
Ye Xiaowu pointed at the umbrella in his hand, “It’s raining, we were afraid that Sister Su wouldn’t have an umbrella.”
A warm current flowed through her heart, Su Yi felt her eyes getting a little hot.
In this vast military compound, there were these two little ones who cared about her, Su Yi was very satisfied.
She quickly told Xiaowu to hold the umbrella, took the other umbrella herself, and hugged Nuannuan in one hand as they rushed into the rain.
“Sister Su, the rain is getting heavier, you should go home with us first.”
Su Yi was also worried about the children catching a cold, “Okay, I’ll send you back first, change your clothes and have some hot water!”
The three of them quickly returned to the courtyard.
Although they had an umbrella, they still got quite wet.
Su Yi quickly grabbed towels for the children to dry themselves off, and then boiled hot water and made them drink some brown sugar water.
“Sister Su, don’t just take care of us, you should drink some too.”
“Right, Uncle Xie came back from outside and brought the photos with him, I’ll go get them.”
Su Yi saw Ye Xiaowu walking around excitedly, so she quickly urged him to sit down and finish his brown sugar water, “I’ll go get them, where did you put them?”
“I put them on the table in Uncle Zhou’s room.”
Su Yi, who had already stood up: ……
Thinking that Zhou Jinchuan wasn’t there, and the table was not far from the door.
She thought it should be fine to just go in and get something.
And Zhou Jinchuan’s bedroom door was also open.
Thinking this, Su Yi quickly stepped inside.
Sure enough, Su Yi found the photo studio’s paper envelope on the bedside table and reached out to pick it up.
As she did, a photo slipped out of the envelope and fell to the ground.
Su Yi crouched down to pick it up and realized that the photo that had fallen out was the group picture of the four of them.
In the photo, Xiaowu and Nuannuan were smiling so much that their eyes were almost closed.
Zhou Jinchuan, sitting upright, had a rare smile on his face.
Seeing the photo suddenly, Su Yi couldn’t help but recall the scene of the four of them taking the picture.
It felt like it had been months ago.
She picked up the photo, ready to stand up and leave, but then she heard a familiar voice coming from the door, “You didn’t get caught in the rain just now, did you?”
It seems like a tricky situation for Su Yi as she got startled and quickly closed the door.
With such heavy rain outside, why did Zhou Jinchuan suddenly come back?
Meeting him upon his return wouldn’t be a big deal, but the problem was she was now in his room.
If she walked out and he saw her, wouldn’t that be incredibly awkward?
[What a major social death scene this is, with not even a gap on the floor.]
Zhou Jinchuan, concerned about the heavy rain, had hurried back from his office to check on the children.
As he entered, he noticed two umbrellas by the door and three bowls of brown sugar water on the table in the living room.
Then, he heard the long-lost sound of footsteps.
Zhou Jinchuan paused and glanced towards his own room.
He saw the door half-open – she was in his room now?
Ye Xiaowu mischievously glanced at the bedroom door.
“Uncle Zhou, Uncle Xie just brought back the photos at noon, do you want to take a look? They’re on the table in your room.”
Zhou Jinchuan nodded, “Got it.”
Su Yi: This kid!!
Her blood rushed to her face all of a sudden, and Su Yi was about to proactively open the door to come out and explain.
Suddenly, the phone in the living room started ringing.
Zhou Jinchuan just hummed twice, ended the phone call, and instructed the two children,
“Uncle still has things to do. I’m relieved to see that you didn’t get wet. Stay home and don’t run around.”
Disappointment was evident on Ye Xiaowu’s face.
He wanted to say something, but Zhou Jinchuan had already strode out the door.
Hearing him leave, Su Yi finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She quickly took the photos and came out, “Someone came by just now?”
Ye Nuannuan pointed outside the door, “Uncle Zhou came and then left!”
Su Yi looked at Ye Xiaowu’s expression, pursed her lips and smiled, “Here are the photos, you two quickly take a look.”
It was raining outside, and Su Yi had nothing to do back home.
So, she stayed with the two children in the house for a while, helping them tidy up.
Thinking that the rain wouldn’t stop anytime soon, she made dinner for the children before leaving.
“Don’t go to the canteen tonight, just heat up the food in the pot and eat it. Don’t go out to play either, or you’ll catch a cold. You have to go to school early tomorrow morning.”
The two children readily agreed.
Su Yi then held up her umbrella and hurried towards the canteen.
Perhaps because of the rain, there were fewer people coming to the canteen for meals and they left early.
This was a rare opportunity, so Xu Xiaoqin and Zhang Tianhua encouraged Su Yi to celebrate with them.
Su Yi thought about how she had been making hot pot these days, and because she was still learning, they had both been exhausted.
So, she readily agreed, “I’ll go tell Master Ma, let’s buy some of the canteen’s leftover ingredients and cook a midnight snack.”
Zhang Tianhua also hurried to say, “Then I’ll go buy some soda.”
Xu Xiaoqin, “Then I’ll stay here and start cleaning and washing vegetables.”
The three of them went their separate ways.
When Su Yi came back, she saw someone next to Xu Xiaoqin, her brother Xu Bin.
Su Yi looked at Xu Xiaoqin in surprise, and saw that she was looking guilty as she whispered, “It wasn’t me who called him, he came here to deliver something to me. It was just a coincidence.”
Su Yi twitched her lips, “Then let Comrade Xu stay and have some midnight snack with us, and go back when the rain stops.”
After all, he was Xu Xiaoqin’s brother.
After the four of them finished their celebratory midnight snack, the rain outside had also lessened considerably.
Su Yi wanted to go back, “Let’s all go back early while the rain is light.”
Xu Xiaoqin also nodded, “It’s dark and slippery outside, let my brother send you back on the way, he lives in the dormitory over there.”
