Chapter 79: Truly Brother Fu’s Precious Treasure
Besides the two of them, there was only one remaining young soldier standing against the wall, his expression as fearless as Fu Jingmo’s.
Lin Mu quickly composed himself, getting pulled up by Fu Jingmo.
The one advantage of the collapsed building was that the staircase leading up had also turned into rubble. Although the zombies below were gaping hungrily, they couldn’t climb up all at once.
The three of them pressed against the wall, motionless, with a protruding section of the roof perfectly concealing their position.
Lin Mu stared intently at the gigantic zombie. It was wandering in front of the building, as if trying to confirm whether the people inside were all dead. Its full form was laid bare before Lin Mu’s eyes.
The zombies on its body had their mouths wide open, as if something had sucked them onto its surface.
“Give me some time,” Lin Mu gritted his teeth and whispered to Fu Jingmo, quickly absorbing energy as his awareness extended towards the massive zombie.
Quickly, he found it!
It was on its body!
The mutated zombie was right on its body.
It was hidden among the tightly packed zombies, right at the heart!
“At its heart! Right there.”
Lin Mu, sweating profusely, turned and excitedly informed Fu Jingmo.
The three of them huddled near the wall corner, quickly sharing the information.
Perhaps due to the recent impact, the young soldier’s arm was covered in blood, and the scent would soon be detected by the giant zombie.
“Spread out and attack quickly!”
Fu Jingmo made a decisive call as the giant zombie had already turned its head, ready to move toward them.
The three of them took off running, with the heavy machine gun clearing the path. Fu Jingmo led the way, sprinting forward and leaping, soaring across the three to four meters gap and landing heavily on the second floor of the building opposite.
Lin Mu swung his vine, hooking the edge and following closely behind.
As the three landed, Fu Jingmo bent his legs, lowered his stance, and turned to unleash a barrage of heavy machine gun fire directly at the chest of the giant zombie.
The precise and fierce shooting immediately dislodged countless fragmented zombies, filling the air with a mix of rot and burnt stench. The giant zombie, enraged, took a stride spanning six to seven meters, closing the distance in an instant.
The giant zombie swung its fist and smashed the building they had just been on, then continued forward, bringing its fist down on their current building.
The roof was directly torn off, and the three of them tumbled and fell down to the first floor, landing face-to-face with the zombie horde below.
Lin Mu swiftly lashed out with his vine, flinging away the approaching zombies, while Fu Jingmo and the young soldier frantically fired their guns, too overwhelmed to pay attention to the giant zombie.
However, the oncoming zombies felt no pain, relentlessly surging forward and charging at them in a frenzy.
The giant zombie was determined to kill these flea-like pests that were ruining its plans. It pursued them closely, and in just a few moments, it had already destroyed more than half of the dozen or so buildings in its path.
If this continued, there would be no escape, let alone from the massive horde of zombies flooding the area.
The three fought as they retreated, the heavy machine gun’s ammo belt rapidly depleting. Fu Jingmo bit down so hard that he tasted the faint tang of blood in his gums. His eyes flickered as he observed that every time the giant zombie swung its fist, the momentum would cause it to retract back to its chest.
With only the last row of ammo left, the young soldier suddenly turned around, gave Lin Mu and Fu Jingmo a brief smile, and spoke.
“Major, make sure to aim well!”
The giant, zombie-stitched fist, reeking of a foul stench, descended from above. Before Lin Mu could react, the young soldier leapt in three strides, clutching onto the massive fist made of countless zombies. In an instant, blood splattered everywhere as his arm was brutally torn apart.
Lin Mu’s shout caught in his throat, and the vine that followed him drooped in mid-air.
The young soldier had a pack of incendiary bombs strapped to his back, and beside him, Fu Jingmo steadied his gun, raised his hand, and aimed without a moment’s hesitation.
At the exact instant the giant fist drew closest to the heart, Fu Jingmo pulled the trigger. The incendiary bomb exploded with a deafening blast, sending a fresh shower of rotting flesh and blood raining down.
The giant zombie’s shoulder was blown apart, causing it to stagger back a few steps.
Seizing the opportunity, Fu Jingmo shouted, “Go.”
He dropped the heavy machine gun, flung his black blade forward, and sliced through the heads of a row of zombies ahead.
Lin Mu numbly followed behind him as they both sprinted at their fastest speed, the air in their chests compressing rapidly, each breath feeling like it was mixed with blood.
At the end of these buildings, a few large trucks were parked, likely used for transporting construction materials.
Without hesitation, they both leaped forward. Fu Jingmo grabbed Lin Mu’s hand and flung him up onto the truck, then climbed into the truck bed himself.
At least there were no zombies in the truck bed. Lin Mu didn’t immediately get up from the ground; out of the ten people, only the two of them were left now!
With a precious moment to catch their breath, the two pressed tightly against the side of the truck bed, breathing heavily.
Outside the truck, the sounds of zombies rose and fell. Lin Mu turned his head to look at Fu Jingmo, whose cold profile was expressionless in the pale moonlight.
“Fu Jingmo, what should we do?”
Hearing the question, Fu Jingmo turned his head, with a smile tugging at his lips. He reached out to wipe the dirt off Lin Mu’s face but found it wouldn’t come off, showing a hint of displeasure.
The rough hand scraped painfully against the side of Lin Mu’s face, but he didn’t try to avoid it.
“I told you not to come!”
Lin Mu frowned. Was this really the time to be saying that?
“What did you bring?”
Fu Jingmo spoke, his deep eyes burning as they locked onto Lin Mu, confident that Lin Mu had something in his space.
Lin Mu retrieved the incendiary bombs and the C9 explosives that he had swept into his space when they left the armored vehicle.
Seeing the items on the ground, Fu Jingmo’s expression softened into a smile. He reached out, grabbing the back of Lin Mu’s neck firmly, and pulling him close.
Their foreheads touched, breaths mingling with the scent of gunpowder. “Good job, you’re truly Brother Fu’s precious treasure!”
Those words sent a jolt through Lin Mu’s chest, and his face flushed hot in the dark night.
“Fu Jingmo, I’ll go.”
Lin Mu spoke coldly, his expression leaving no room for argument. “I have Xiao Yuan; I can do it.”
The hand on the back of his neck tightened slightly, repeatedly kneading the soft spot behind his neck. Fu Jingmo’s gaze fell on Lin Mu’s dry but appealing lips—they were so close, less than five centimeters apart.
“Alright, I trust you.”
He released his grip, the warmth of Lin Mu’s skin quickly fading from his palm.
Without further delay, Fu Jingmo stood up and pulled Lin Mu to his feet as well.
Lin Mu brushed off his pants and, frowning awkwardly, muttered, “Stop calling yourself ‘Ge’ all the time. I’m older than you.”
Fu Jingmo climbed onto the top of the truck, kicked open the window glass, and slid into the driver’s seat. He pulled out four wires—two red and two blue—from under the steering wheel, his fingers deftly connecting them.
Moments later, the engine roared to life. With a slam on the gas pedal, the truck surged forward, plowing through the horde of zombies in front of it.
Lin Mu clung to the truck bed, steadying himself as he stared unblinkingly outside. The giant zombie was busy repairing its shoulder that had just been blown apart, grabbing numerous zombies from the ground and tossing them into the gaping wound.
It was as if something was attracting them, causing the zombies thrown into the gap to stick tightly.
Lin Mu clenched Xiao Yuan in his palm, the tip of the vine coiled around an incendiary bomb. The truck was quickly closing in, but they had only four incendiary bombs left.
The vine lashed out, and the incendiary bomb smashed hard into the chest of the giant zombie. A burst of black crystal flew from the truck window as the incendiary bomb exploded, casting a red glow that lit up half the sky.
But it was still too far away, and the truck couldn’t get any closer; it was their only shelter for now.
If they got closer, they would become a bigger target for the giant zombie—one punch could overturn the truck. Fu Jingmo threw out black blades, clearing the zombies swarming around them.
Lin Mu grabbed the second incendiary bomb, jumped onto the roof of the truck, and carefully threw it.
But it wasn’t enough; this only blasted away part of the outer layer of the giant zombie, not enough to kill the mutated zombie hiding inside.
The enraged giant zombie took several strides toward them. Fu Jingmo leaned out, spinning his black blade, slicing off countless zombies that clung to its body.
The zombies were closing in step by step!
This couldn’t go on!
As he gritted his teeth, Lin Mu picked up the C9 explosive pack. The vine wrapped around the giant zombie’s fingers, and with a strong pull, he stepped onto its hand. Below him were zombies with gaping mouths, but thanks to the excellent quality of his military boots, he wouldn’t be bitten right away.
Fu Jingmo spotted Lin Mu’s figure on the giant zombie; he looked impossibly small against it!
His eyes widened in shock, and without hesitation, he slammed his foot on the gas pedal, driving straight toward the giant zombie.
The moment the truck collided with the zombie, Fu Jingmo leapt out of the driver’s seat.
The giant zombie staggered and fell backward from the sudden impact of the truck. Lin Mu gritted his teeth and held onto the vine; if it weren’t for the fact that the vine grew from his palm, it would have slipped out of his grasp by now.
Fu Jingmo made several leaps, climbing up the abandoned building to the highest point. The giant zombie, falling on its back, crushed the horde of zombies below into a bloody pulp. Buildings collapsed in succession, sending debris flying everywhere.
Lin Mu plummeted heavily with the fall, but in the chaos, the vine latched onto the edge of a part of the building that had not yet collapsed, barely stabilizing his body.
He reached out and grabbed a gap on the side. This was the moment- there was no better chance than now to get closer.
The vine flung the C9 explosive, embedding it squarely into the giant zombie’s chest.
Lin Mu glanced back at Fu Jingmo and shouted, “Now!”
Fu Jingmo, usually decisive, hesitated for a split second—at that distance, the power of the C9 was incredibly dangerous for Lin Mu.
But reason took over his mind. As he quickly moved toward Lin Mu, almost instinctively, he raised his hand, and a black crystal flew out, striking the C9.
