Chapter 26 Caring
The video call connected.
A beautiful middle-aged woman appeared on the screen.
“Mom.” Shen Yan called out.
Lan Luoqiu, with her outstanding grace, had a serious expression on her beautiful face, “You were fighting in a bar last night? Are you seriously injured?”
Lan Luoqiu was in France, with Shen Yan’s father.
This middle-aged couple now just wanted to enjoy their world for two, traveling freely. Anyway, their son and daughter were grown up and could live independently, they didn’t want to manage them anymore.
This morning, she received a video from Shen Jiahe on WeChat. When she clicked on it, she saw her own son saving a damsel in distress. She watched that wine bottle fall, and her heart jumped to her throat.
“Minor injury, it’s nothing.” Shen Yan said nonchalantly, still wiping his hair with a towel.
Lan Luoqiu’s beautiful brows furrowed slightly, “What do you mean minor injury? People were throwing wine bottles and fists at you, and you call it a minor injury? Did you go to the hospital? You’re so grown up, why are you so reckless!”
Although Lan Luoqiu’s tone was one of reproach, her words couldn’t hide her concern and heartache.
Shen Yan’s lips curved slightly, his tone gentle, “Mom, I’m really fine. Just a few minor skin injuries. Your son, I exercise regularly, I’m strong and healthy, how could I get hurt from a few punches?”
Lan Luoqiu looked at her son’s face on the screen. Thankfully, he didn’t get disfigured. She sighed, “You, you really don’t let me worry about you. I tell you, if this happens again, I’ll go back and buy you a tomb. It’s better to bury you myself than have you beaten to death by someone else.”
As she spoke, Lan Luoqiu’s voice involuntarily raised a few degrees, “Being a hero and getting hurt, do you want me and your dad to live? I tell you, I haven’t even dared to tell your dad about this, I don’t know if he knows yet.”
“Well, since you know, how long will it be before he knows?” Shen Yan asked back with a smile.
Lan Luoqiu glared at him, “Don’t be so flippant with me. You almost got me off track. Let me see where you’re injured. Don’t lie to me.”
“Just a little injury on my arm, I’ll show you.” Shen Yan moved his phone towards his injured arm, “There are also some bruises and minor injuries on my body, are you sure you want to see them?”
“Speak properly!” Lan Luoqiu scolded.
Shen Yan pointed the phone back at his face, “See? It’s just a few minor skin injuries, it’s nothing serious. Mom, don’t worry about me. You and Old Shen, just enjoy your world for two in France.”
Lan Luoqiu’s expression softened slightly. She suddenly changed the topic, “Right, how come you didn’t go to the blind date I introduced to you a few days ago? This is the nth time you’ve stood someone up. Come on, tell me, what kind of girl do you like? Mom will help you find one.”
As soon as Lan Luoqiu brought this up, Shen Yan couldn’t help but feel a headache. He directly hung the towel on his head, helplessly supporting his forehead, “Mom, I told you to stop worrying about this, okay? I’m really not interested in those girls.”
Shen Yan again looked unwilling to talk about it. Lan Luoqiu gritted her teeth in anger, “Fine, fine, I don’t care about your messed up affairs. I don’t have high requirements for you, any girl will do, as long as she has good character.”
“Uh-huh.” Shen Yan nodded in agreement, perfunctorily.
“Okay, that’s it then.”
Lan Luoqiu didn’t want to waste any more words with him, so she directly hung up the video call.
Her son had been refusing to find a girlfriend, and she, as a mother, was anxious. For a while, she even seriously suspected that Shen Yan liked boys. Otherwise, why hadn’t he dated a girlfriend? Later, she observed him for a while and felt that he didn’t seem like it, so her uneasy heart finally relaxed a bit.
Shen Yan threw his phone back on the bed and went back to the bathroom for another shower.
This time, he had just finished showering when the door was knocked on.
Shen Yan was a bit speechless. What was with all the people coming to find him one after another this morning?
He could probably guess who was standing at the door.
Shen Yan slowly went to the closet, found a gray casual outfit, put it on, and then opened the door.
Sure enough, he saw Shen Jiahe standing outside.
“Why did it take you so long to open the door? I thought something happened to you inside.” Shen Jiahe complained as soon as she opened her mouth.
Shen Yan ignored her, turned around and went to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator, took out some milk, poured it into a cup, and put it in the microwave to heat.
Shen Jiahe’s voice came from behind him again, “Brother, do you have to be so cold in the morning? I specifically came to see you, aren’t you moved at all?”
Shen Yan turned his head and lazily glanced at her, “Not moved.”
Shen Jiahe snorted, “You’re so heartless.”
“I guess you sent the video to Mom, right? Mom’s 3G surfing, she couldn’t have seen it so quickly.” Shen Yan asked.
At the same time, he couldn’t help but complain about Lan Luoqiu’s surfing speed.
Shen Jiahe didn’t deny it, “Yeah, I saw you getting beaten up, I had to report it to her immediately.”
Shen Yan had a “I knew it was you” expression, shaking his head helplessly.
The milk had been hot for a while. Shen Yan turned around, opened the microwave, took out the milk, and was just about to drink it when Shen Jiahe suddenly reached out, took the milk, and took a sip.
Shen Yan: “…”
“Brother’s heated milk is just so good.” Shen Jiahe blinked her smiling eyes, then handed the milk back to Shen Yan, “I just took a sip, here you go.”
“No!” Shen Yan refused.
He could only go and heat another glass of milk.
Was she here to annoy him this morning?
In the spacious dining room, the siblings stared at each other, neither of them wanting to talk to the other.
_
Su Yu slept until two in the afternoon before waking up.
She opened her eyes, lay in bed and looked at the ceiling for a while, then sat up and leisurely opened her phone and ordered takeout.
Su Yu exited the takeout app and realized that Su Pinglan had called her. Five missed calls. Su Yu hesitated whether to call back, but after thinking about it, she opened WeChat and decided to type a message to ask what was wrong.
Su Yu’s pale fingers swiped across the screen, looking for Su Pinglan’s WeChat. As she swiped, she saw a few red dots in the top left corner. She clicked on the chat box and saw several long voice messages from Su Pinglan.
Su Yu turned up the volume and clicked on the voice message.
Su Pinglan’s slightly anxious voice came from the voice message.
Su Yu thought that Su Pinglan was asking her for money again, but this time, it was all about caring for her, asking if she was okay, if she was injured, and so on.
After listening to the voice message, Su Yu’s nose suddenly felt sour.
Su Pinglan still knew how to care about her. She had thought that Su Pinglan only knew how to ask her for money.
Su Yu’s eyes were a bit moist. She pursed her lips, trying to hold back the tears.
She replied to Su Pinglan with a message saying she was fine, and sent some words to comfort her.
She was about to put away her phone and get out of bed to wash her face when Su Jinhang’s call came in.
