Chapter 264: Zhao Jianing’s Frustration
The ticket seller seemed a bit hesitant. Seeing Zhao Jianing’s attire, it was clear she was not an ordinary person. Just as the ticket seller was about to speak, Luo Siyan said, “Zhao Jianing, stop creating trouble.
You came late and now expect others to give up their seats for you. Are you old or something? I haven’t heard that you get carsick. It’s not good to lie at such a young age. Sit down properly.”
The ticket seller, upon hearing this, said, “Comrade, the bus is about to depart. You should sit down quickly. Don’t end up falling when we turn a corner.” The ticket seller’s tone was less friendly than before.
Zhao Jianing bit her lip and had no choice but to sit down, feeling deeply wronged and resentful toward Luo Siyan. This Luo Siyan had always been at odds with her and was still so annoying even now.
Luo Qiao snorted in the front. Fortunately, someone had spoken up to stop Zhao Jianing, otherwise, she wouldn’t have minded making her embarrass herself right after coming back. This is what happens when you’re spoiled.
The bus was extremely bumpy, and sitting on the small stool made it difficult to stay in place. Sometimes it would jolt up and down, and Zhao Jianing, sitting next to the door, had an especially rough ride.
She also had to make way for others to get off the bus, which made her face look very displeased. At one point, she complained that someone who got off the bus had brushed against her, only to be scolded by that person and the woman accompanying them: “If you think it’s crowded, why are you even on this bus? Do you think it’s your own vehicle?”
Zhao Jianing was so angry she almost cried, but no one on the bus sympathized with her, they thought she was being overly sensitive.
Finally, when they arrived at Chaoyang Commune, they heard they still had to walk several miles to get there. The group looked at their luggage with concern.
When Luo Qiao got out of the bus, Luo Qiao saw Lu Yichen waiting for her. “What are you doing here?”
Lu Yichen smiled, “I’m here to handle some matters at the commune and happened to be waiting for you.”
Luo Qiao smiled back, “How did you know I would be coming back today?”
Lu Yichen got on the bicycle, “If the vegetables in your yard aren’t picked soon, they might wither. I guessed you would definitely be back this week.”
Luo Qiao sat on the back of the bicycle and asked, “What about Shitou? Is he back or still in the city?”
Lu Yichen said, “He came back with me. His school’s teachers had to attend a training organized by the education bureau yesterday afternoon, so the students were left at school with just assignments. Shitou asked for leave from the teachers who stayed behind.”
Luo Qiao asked, “So you came back yesterday?”
Lu Yichen replied, “Yes, we came back on a vehicle that was heading to the county for a case yesterday afternoon. It was on the way.”
What Lu Yichen didn’t say was that he wanted to return early to check the atmosphere in the village and had some things to take care of, so he decided to come back ahead of schedule.
Just as he was about to pedal away, someone came running up from behind and asked, “Comrade, which way to Qingshan Village?”
Lu Yichen turned to look at the person and asked, “You’re going to Qingshan Village?”
Luo Siyuan replied, “Yes.”
Lu Yichen glanced behind him and said, “Just go straight in from here. It’s not far, about half an hour.”
Luo Qiao chuckled inwardly. Without any luggage, it would take around half an hour, with all the things they had, it might take an hour or more, unless they came across a bullock cart or donkey cart to take them along.
After Lu Yichen finished speaking, he rode off on his bicycle and, after he had gone a fair distance, said, “Those two people probably came for you.”
Luo Qiao looked at the fields in the distance, which were beginning to turn yellow. “It’s hard to say. You didn’t see that they were here to see off a sister.”
Lu Yichen said, “If you look closely, they do resemble you a bit.”
After Lu Yichen’s bicycle had disappeared from view, Luo Siyuan said, “Third Brother, didn’t you think that girl looked a bit like us?”
The two brothers exchanged glances, and Luo Siyan said, “I thought she looked familiar. She’s probably our sister, Luo Qiao.”
Luo Siyuan stamped his foot in frustration, “We should have realized earlier. Oh well, Brother, go find a cart to help us with these things. We can’t carry all this stuff ourselves.”
Luo Siyan quickly walked towards the brigade where the commune was located. After a while, he managed to borrow a donkey cart. The brigade wouldn’t have lent him the cart if they hadn’t seen him in his neat military uniform.
