{“He’s anxious! He’s anxious!” 2}
Yu Suyue could bet that this three thousand wouldn’t last long, and she’d soon be back to her previous state of financial struggle.
“Don’t you have anything else for yourself?”
Yu Suyue replied, “I’m afraid of gaining weight.”
The little girl chuckled, her mouth smeared with chocolate sauce, saying, “I was worried that I’d upset Su Su by taking her sundae, but I didn’t realize I was helping her lose weight!”
Bian Yuan watched Yu Suyue wipe the corner of Bian Yixing’s mouth, lazily leaning back on the sofa, his gaze less dark than usual. “Yeah, your Su Su will be very grateful to you.”
The two began to engage in light conversation.
The father-daughter relationship had thawed.
Yu Suyue couldn’t shake the feeling that it wasn’t just an illusion; every time the boss looked at her, it seemed he could see right through everything yet still enjoyed himself. She realized she might have been toyed with by this seemingly bickering father and daughter.
The little girl also seemed to have lost the anger she had towards Bian Yuan from last night.
Yusuyue thought to herself, this is great—she sacrificed her own wallet to foster the bond between the father and daughter.
“Feeling sorry for the money?”
Yu Suyue nodded repeatedly, “Mm-hmm.”
Bian Yuan noticed something rare in the world: almost everyone around him deliberately avoided their most obvious emotions and wore fake smiles in his presence, while Yu Suyue had never done that.
At first, she didn’t shy away from discussing money; she suggested a manageable amount instead.
She loved money but wasn’t greedy.
It was evident that she felt a hint of displeasure, a mix of discomfort and hesitation coursing through her. Even as he suppressed the turmoil within, it didn’t stop him from teasing her several times.
“What do you want the money for? You’re not trying to chase that Lin Wushen, are you?”
Bian Yuan was reluctant to admit that a hint of jealousy colored his words.
“I want to buy a house.”
“My dream house isn’t big, but it has a floor-to-ceiling window that lets in sunlight, and the sofa has to be very soft…” After saying that, Yu Suyue realized she had said too much. The ideal world she envisioned probably seemed worthless to others.
After all, the boss lived in a sprawling estate of hundreds of hectares; why would he care about her fantasies?
However, Bian Yuan merely pressed his thin lips together, not showing any disdain. Instead, he hesitated, wanting to ask more.
Yes.
He almost blurted out, then who else is in your imagined life?
But realizing that Bian Yixing wasn’t part of that consideration, he quickly stopped himself.
At this moment, that question felt pointless.
Yu Suyue also noticed the change in Bian Yuan’s expression since entering the KFC, thinking he was growing impatient with their company.
“Bian Yuan, will you take Xingxing home, or should she stay with me for a while longer?”
“Ask her.”
Bian Yuan lowered his gaze and nonchalantly tossed the question back to his daughter.
“I want to be with Su Su!”
The little girl shouted, but in that moment, her noise didn’t feel out of place; it was the first time Bian Yuan sensed he was truly part of a lively atmosphere.
But this lively moment was fleeting.
“I’ll take you both back.”
Bian Yuan couldn’t find a suitable reason to linger with Yu Suyue any longer.
Yu Suyue thought she understood his intentions; it was difficult for him to carve out time from his busy schedule. Before long, she wrapped Xingxing in a glowing jacket.
As they pushed open the door, Bian Yuan’s inscrutable face grew even colder.
Yu Suyue, used to being carefree, didn’t take his usual scowl to heart, believing it was quite normal for wealthy people to have a somewhat jaded attitude.
But throughout the journey back to school, Bian Yuan remained silent.
No matter how much Bian Yixing struggled in her car seat, it didn’t catch his attention; the once softened father-daughter relationship seemed to revert back to how it was before.
Yu Suyue felt it was already exhausting enough to play the role of a tutor for Xingxing; she certainly didn’t want to become a free therapist for her father, so she didn’t make any effort to mediate.
However, Bian Yuan’s indifference towards her left her with an indescribable sense of disappointment.
Finally, they got out of the car.
Bian Yuan watched them walk away without any reluctance, then slammed his car door shut.
He quickly stepped forward, blocking Yu Suyue’s path, causing her to stumble right into Xingxing’s father’s embrace.
If she heard correctly, she could hear Bian Yixing’s giggles, along with the little girl excitedly chanting, “He’s anxious! He’s anxious!”
Bian Yuan admitted, glancing at the noisy child, “I am anxious.”
Bian Yixing managed to stifle her laughter just in time.
Yu Suyue felt the surrounding silence weigh heavily, leaving only the sharply defined face in front of her and the man’s somewhat oppressive presence.
“I want to know, who else is in the little house that Miss Yu envisioned?”
