“…Officer, what are you doing here?”
Li Po never expected to run into Jiang Yu here. He was slightly surprised for a moment, then suddenly thought of something, and his face immediately turned pale. He hurriedly crouched down to pick up the scattered inhibitors on the ground.
The square boxes were scattered messily on the floor, but Li Po quickly gathered them up and stuffed them into his arms.
Soon, there was only one inhibitor left on the smooth ground.
Feeling anxious, Li Po stretched his arm out to reach for it.
Maybe he used too much force; just as his fingertips touched it and before he could get a good grip, the box slid away with the momentum and ended up half a meter further from him.
“…”
Li Po closed his eyes. How embarrassing.
He sighed, a bit tired, carefully holding onto the inhibitors he’d gathered, and prepared to reach for the last one.
But before he could stretch out his hand, a shadow suddenly fell over him.
Startled, Li Po couldn’t help but look up at the person.
Jiang Yu was tall, and with Li Po still in a half-crouched position, his neck soon began to ache. He couldn’t figure out what Jiang Yu was doing by coming closer, so he could only endure the discomfort and stare straight at him.
Sensing Li Po’s gaze, Jiang Yu lowered his eyes and glanced at him indifferently.
Although this time there was no oppressive aura in his gaze, Li Po still felt a chill down his spine, and a faint sense of panic crept into his heart.
The next moment, Li Po was puzzled—why was he panicking?
He instinctively rubbed his fingertips, inadvertently touching the sharp edge of a box. His slender fingers froze for a moment as realization dawned on him—
He was scared. He was afraid Jiang Yu would discover his inhibitors and realize that his heat was approaching.
Although he hadn’t interacted much with Jiang Yu, from their limited encounters, Li Po could sense that Jiang Yu was different from others. Most other Alphas looked at him like wolves eyeing sheep, and their gazes made him feel sick. But Jiang Yu was different. His gaze towards Omegas had no impurities, like he was just looking at a living piece of meat, and nothing more.
But even so, Li Po remained cautious around him.
An Omega’s heat is dangerous. If you inject the inhibitor in time, it’s fine. But if you don’t and an Alpha with ill intentions takes advantage of it, you could lose control, be marked for life by that Alpha, and become their plaything. Some Omegas were even played to death, not only losing their glands but also their lives.
Li Po valued his life. He couldn’t tolerate being controlled by others, let alone becoming someone’s toy. To safely get through his first heat, he had to hide it from everyone, lock himself in his dorm, and get through it alone.
And as for Jiang Yu, though Li Po had a bit of goodwill towards him, he still didn’t trust him and remained on guard.
As these thoughts raced through his mind, he lowered his head, eyes fixed on the inhibitor a little distance away.
Just before he could take a step, the shadow covering him suddenly moved.
In the next second, Jiang Yu crouched down, raising his left hand slightly, as if to pick up the inhibitor on the ground.
Li Po’s pupils shrank instantly. He had never expected Jiang Yu to help him pick it up, and even less did he know what to do if Jiang Yu actually picked it up for him.
His head had already been a bit fuzzy today, and now it felt like it had completely shut down. He couldn’t think of anything, except that he didn’t want Jiang Yu to know his heat was approaching.
“Wait!”
As soon as the words left his mouth, Li Po rushed over, pressing down on the inhibitor…and the hand reaching for it.
The box wasn’t held securely and fell back to the smooth ground with a crisp sound. It wasn’t loud, but to Li Po’s ears, it felt deafening.
“…”
Jiang Yu’s hand was cold, his fingers well-defined, and the bony knuckles pressed against Li Po’s soft hand, leaving him frozen in place.
“That…it’s not…” The Omega, usually good with words, was uncharacteristically at a loss for them. He stammered, unable to form a complete sentence, his eyes filled with panic and helplessness.
Though panicked, he hadn’t forgotten his goal. In the next second, he released his grip, quickly grabbed the inhibitor, and snatched his hand back, hiding the box behind him.
Once the box was safely hidden, Li Po finally relaxed. He breathed a sigh of relief, lowered his eyes, and stared at the ground without looking elsewhere, his tone sincere as he said, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
Li Po didn’t have the courage to meet Jiang Yu’s eyes. He kept his hands behind his back, unconsciously pinching the edge of the box, almost crushing one of its corners.
But he waited and waited, and still, Jiang Yu didn’t respond. All he heard was the sound of fabric rustling.
Did he leave?
Li Po wasn’t sure.
He didn’t hear the sound of footsteps leaving, but he also couldn’t see a shadow on the ground. After some hesitation, he stole a glance up—
And met a cold gaze.
“…”
Li Po forced a stiff smile.
“It’s fine.” Jiang Yu’s gaze was indifferent as he looked at the Omega, his face devoid of any emotion, as if he didn’t care at all about the awkward moment that had just occurred.
It was only then that Li Po noticed Jiang Yu was holding a medical prescription in his right hand.
What medicine was he picking up? Li Po was suddenly curious, but now wasn’t the time for curiosity. He had to get out of here.
Fortunately, after speaking, Jiang Yu didn’t look at him anymore, giving Li Po the chance to slip away. He awkwardly pressed his lips together and then hurriedly escaped from the scene.
Outside the door.
Jin Mu impatiently stared at the door, wishing he could burn a hole through it with his eyes.
What kind of medicine takes this long to get? He couldn’t figure it out.
Just as he was about to break in, the door finally opened, and Li Po walked out.
The moment Jin Mu saw Li Po, he froze. “Why is your face so red?”
Li Po froze too. “Huh, is it?”
Jin Mu nodded firmly.
Li Po’s lips stiffened into a smile. He blinked slowly, his expression a bit unnatural. “Maybe it was too hot inside.”
Jin Mu scratched his head at this.
Hot? He remembered the last time he was in there, it was pretty cool.
Seeing Jin Mu’s puzzled expression, Li Po cleared his throat and reminded him, “We should get going.”
“Alright. By the way, what medicine did you get? Why did it take so long?”
Li Po instinctively held the inhibitor tighter and mumbled, “Nothing much, just took a while to find the medicine.”
“Oh, I see…”
Jin Mu didn’t suspect anything and followed behind Li Po as they walked out.
–
After leaving the C District, Jiang Yu saw this scene.
The tall Alpha stood behind the Omega, his broad back blocking most of the Omega’s figure. The two of them seemed close, standing side by side.
Jiang Yu frowned slightly, though his eyes showed no emotion. He quickly turned his gaze away, walking in the opposite direction.
However, he couldn’t help but wonder—if there was already an Alpha, why still use inhibitors?
