After calming himself down, Zong Mao began to carefully think about how to obtain the mental power test results of the Omega. Although he was simple-minded and physically strong, he was also cautious, not leaving any trace of evidence behind. Even though he didn’t care much about the Omega’s mental power level, he needed to verify the truth in Di Kai’s words and hold something over the Omega. To do that, he had to get Omega’s real mental power level.
Hiss… Thinking of this, Zong Mao scratched his head in frustration. He couldn’t get his hands on White Tower’s mental power testing equipment, and stealing it wasn’t an option either. That path was a dead end.
Besides the mental power testing device, the only other way to prove the Omega’s mental power level was by using a weapon driven by mental power. But those weapons were locked in the armory, and regular soldiers couldn’t touch them unless they were on a mission, where they’d have access to the armory.
Wait… mission?!
Suddenly, an idea flashed in Zong Mao’s mind, and his eyes brightened instantly. He grabbed his communicator, glanced at the notification bar, and couldn’t help but smile.
Wasn’t this the perfect opportunity?
–
Li Po held his communicator for a while, waiting for Jin Mu’s reply. When he didn’t get one, he stopped waiting, tossed the communicator aside, lay on his bed, and closed his eyes to sleep.
But he couldn’t fall asleep. After a while, he opened his eyes again.
The room was a bit stuffy, so Li Po lifted the blanket to air himself out for a bit, but it didn’t help. Frustrated, he got up and opened the window.
There wasn’t much of a view outside, and Li Po wasn’t in the mood to appreciate it. His eyes drooped listlessly, staring blankly at a spot.
No one knew that during his time in S District, he was practically going crazy. Dormitory, cafeteria, training ground—every day it was the same three places. Even a trip to White Tower had become a small break in his routine. He just couldn’t take it anymore. At least the alphas could go on missions. Even though they were dangerous, it was better than being locked up in S District like some useless person. Li Po had been stuck here for so many days that he felt like mushrooms were growing on his head.
Thinking about it made Li Po feel a bit down. He rested his forehead against the window glass, looking dejected and unhappy.
Would he ever see the sky outside S District again? Was he going to be locked up here for life?
…He wanted to die.
After a brief moment of despair, Li Po walked over to his bed and picked up his communicator to check for messages.
Jin Mu had replied a few minutes ago. Just as Li Po was about to open the message, he noticed a new red dot in the bottom left corner.
His delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly as he clicked on it without hesitation, rejecting the request.
The next moment, a system notification popped up: [You have a new friend request.]
Rejected again.
A second later: [You have a new friend request.]
“…”
He was annoyed.
Li Po squinted his eyes and glanced at the requester—Zong Tai.
Zong Tai? Who’s that? He didn’t know this person.
Li Po tapped at the light screen, trying to find the block button. But due to a mistake in operation, his hand slipped, and he accidentally clicked “accept.”
“…”
Just as Li Po was about to delete the person, a message suddenly popped up on the screen. He glanced at it casually, but his hand didn’t stop moving.
The next second, he suddenly paused, his finger hovering over the delete button.
Zong Tai: [You don’t have to hide anymore. I already know.]
Huh? This wasn’t going the way he expected.
Hide what? How come he had no idea?
Li Po: [Huh?]
Zong Tai: [Your mental power level isn’t really E, is it?]
“…”
Li Po froze, his face darkening. He stared at the message, his face expressionless.
How did he know?
Li Po’s mental power had always been reported as E level, and no one had ever questioned it. White Tower had never altered the test results either. His mental power test had been conducted by Bian Lu, and in the subsequent interactions, Bian Lu had never mentioned any abnormalities in the results.
His instincts told him that the issue probably wasn’t with White Tower. So where could the leak have come from?
…Could it be from him?
Li Po gasped—this wasn’t impossible.
Back in the armory, he had fired a shot in front of Di Kai. Although Jin Mu had interrupted him afterward, he wasn’t sure if Di Kai had paid attention to it. There was another time, during a holographic simulation training, where he fired three shots at virtual contaminants, hitting every target.
Could it have been one of those times?
Li Po knew that his silence would only deepen the other party’s suspicion, so he lowered his eyes and casually sent a question mark.
Zong Tai: [Stop pretending. You should know better than me.]
Zong Tai: [I’ll report this to the higher-ups tomorrow. If you don’t want to be exposed, meet me alone.]
Li Po was completely baffled by the other party’s approach. Who goes to all the trouble of threatening someone just for a face-to-face meeting?
With a blank expression, he typed: [I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Not meeting.]
This time, the other side went silent for a long time.
Just as Li Po was thinking about whether to delete the contact, another message popped up on the screen:
Zong Tai: [Tomorrow at 3 PM sharp, I’ll be waiting for you at the armory entrance. If you don’t show up within ten minutes, I’ll submit the evidence to the officials. No matter who’s backing you, they won’t be able to protect you.]
The armory entrance?
Li Po stared at the message, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
What was the purpose of meeting at the armory? Could he be planning to take him inside?
If not, there was no reason for the Alpha to go to such lengths to arrange the meeting there, so Li Po was betting on his guess.
Assuming that was the case, why would the other party want to take him into the armory? To kill him? That seemed unlikely.
Or perhaps, to verify his true mental power level?
Thinking about this, a glint of interest appeared in Li Po’s eyes. He speculated that the other party was testing him. If he didn’t go, nothing would happen; but if he went, the Alpha might force him to use a mental power weapon, revealing his true level.
So, should he go or not?
Staying safely in the dorm was undoubtedly the safest option. He could quietly get through his first heat and avoid anyone discovering his real mental power level. It was a safe and easy choice. But right in front of Li Po was a huge temptation—a chance to enter the armory.
Even he didn’t know his own mental power level. The armory wasn’t a place one could enter any time. If he could seize this opportunity and take a gamble, it might turn the situation around and bring him a new opportunity.
Take a gamble, turn a bicycle into a motorcycle!
But when he thought about his heat, Li Po hesitated again. He touched the back of his neck, where there was still no sign of heat or swelling.
It’s just a few hours, it should be fine, right…
Li Po admitted that he was being a bit reckless, but whatever, he had already decided to gamble. One more risk wouldn’t hurt—might as well give it a shot.
Worst case scenario, gamble and lose everything.
The next chapter is so loooong, but I don’t want to cut in in parts~
