The guests who had been restrained were still struggling, trying to break free from their bindings. “Let me go! How dare you treat me like this? I’m going to have my dad seal this place!”
“Captain, we’ve found it.”
A man wearing white gloves, with the help of police dogs, found a packet of white powder on the sofa, along with various colored pills on the coffee table.
The captain, standing in the center of the room, looked even more severe. “Continue searching.”
They turned the entire private room upside down, finding not just one but several packets of such substances scattered around.
The expressions of the police officers were clearly unpleasant, and their gazes towards the loud-mouthed guests were filled with coldness.
“Control them well and take them to the station for a urine test later. Li Fan, you take a team and continue searching.”
Fortunately, Jiang Zhida had had Yunmengze searched in advance, so no other substances were found by the police.
After all, Yunmengze’s entrance clearly stated that no prohibited items were allowed, and violators would be sent to the police station.
Of course, guests couldn’t be searched upon entry, otherwise, such incidents wouldn’t occur.
However, since most private rooms had service staff, any unusual activity would be noticed, so not many people did anything inappropriate there.
If one wanted to play, there were plenty of other entertainment venues available.
But because only this one private room had been found with contraband, Jiang Zhida and the others had to go to the police station as well to clear Yunmengze’s name.
As Jiang Zhida followed the police, Cen Huai’an and the others also headed out.
At the door, Jiang Zhida turned around, preparing to tell Cen Huai’an and the others to return to their rooms to rest since it was getting late and he wouldn’t be able to send them home.
Just as he called out Zhang Lu’s name, a shout of alarm came: “Watch out!”
Jiang Zhida quickly turned around and saw a restrained person, who had somehow escaped from his bindings, rushing towards them.
In the blink of an eye, two legs quickly extended and kicked the person, sending him crashing to the ground.
Cen Huai’an and Zhang Lu reacted very quickly, and after kicking the person, they, along with Jiang Weixian, swiftly ran over and pinned him down.
The police captain glared fiercely at his subordinates who were watching the suspects. “What were you doing? How could you let him escape? If you can’t handle your job, get out and face the consequences!”
In reality, the man didn’t have any intention of causing harm.
They were just a group of second-generation rich kids who only wanted to try the most exciting things but weren’t bold enough to commit violent acts.
The man only panicked when he realized he would be taken to the police station and tried to run away when the guard was distracted, thinking he could escape quickly.
Jiang Zhida and the others happened to be in his escape path, so he charged at them.
The man, dazed after being kicked to the ground, was completely surprised that it was a few kids who stopped him.
The man struggled fiercely while being held down by Cen Huai’an and the others, but he couldn’t break free no matter what.
He looked at Cen Huai’an and the others with astonishment, wondering why these three kids were so strong.
The police captain, observing the three kids, contemplated thoughtfully.
From their quick reactions and movements, he could tell that these kids had some martial arts training and were not ordinary.
“You’ve caught the person, so you should come to the police station as well.”
Jiang Zhida, having realized what was happening, protected Cen Huai’an and the others behind him. “I’m their guardian. I’ll go with them to make a statement.”
The police captain didn’t insist, as it wasn’t suitable for children to be involved in this matter.
Cen Huai’an handed the restrained man over to the police and walked away, looking back three times towards the stairs.
Cen Huai’an said, “Uncle, we’ll wait for you to come back.”
Zhang Lu said, “Yeah, yeah! Uncle, come back quickly!”
Jiang Weixian also nodded in agreement.
Cen Huai’an and the others returned to Jiang Zhida’s room and sat on the sofa, waiting for him to come back.
As Cen Huai’an looked up, he noticed the sky outside.
The sun had long set, and a crescent moon hung in the sky, with moonlight casting a glow on the window sill.
Cen Huai’an immediately realized he had forgotten to call home.
He hurriedly stood up from the sofa and walked to the telephone table in the living room, which Jiang Zhida had installed in the room.
While dialing the number at the family compound, Cen Huai’an’s heart was racing, feeling anxious.
Waiting for Chuxia and Cen Zhengnian to answer the phone, he had never felt time drag on so slowly.
“An’an?”
“Mom.” Cen Huai’an sighed in relief and said, “Today, I stayed out a bit late with Lu Lu and the others. Uncle has something to do, so we’re going to stay at Yunmengze for the night.”
Chuxia had guessed this already, knowing Cen Huai’an hadn’t come back because he lost track of time at Zhang Lu’s birthday party.
With Jiang Zhida’s arrangements at Yunmengze, Chuxia felt reassured, and with Zhang Lu and Jiang Weixian with him, she said, “Okay, just remember to lock the door when you sleep.”
Zhang Lu and Jiang Weixian greeted Chuxia, and Chuxia, understanding their intention to reassure her, smiled and talked to them.
After ending the call, Chuxia looked at Cen Zhengnian behind her and reached out her hand.
Cen Zhengnian took her hand, looked down at her, and gently asked, “What’s wrong?”
Chuxia frowned and shook her head. “I have a feeling something isn’t right with An’an, but I can’t pinpoint why.”
Cen Zhengnian said, “It should be nothing serious. Since An’an doesn’t want to tell us, don’t worry too much. He’s growing up and will have his own secrets.”
Chuxia thought about it and agreed.
It was normal for An’an to have his own small secrets at his age, as long as he wasn’t in danger.
After Cen Huai’an finished the call, Zhang Lu and Jiang Weixian remembered to call home as well, using the excuse Cen Huai’an had mentioned.
Jiang Zhida, being relaxed, wasn’t worried about his daughter being at his brother’s place, and waved it off, saying, “Okay, I understand.”
Bai Han wasn’t as at ease as Jiang Zhida and asked Jiang Weixian many questions to make sure he truly couldn’t come home before reluctantly agreeing, “Alright, you can stay at your uncle’s place tonight, but you have to come home early tomorrow morning.”
Jiang Weixian obediently agreed and sighed in relief after hanging up, feeling relaxed.
Zhang Lu patted his shoulder, knowing that Jiang Weixian was afraid of his mother, but she didn’t expect it to be to this extent.
The three children sat on the sofa, waiting for Jiang Zhida to return.
They had no idea how long they had been waiting when the door suddenly clicked open, but the living room was silent.
Jiang Zhida was surprised as he walked into the living room and found the three kids sprawled on the sofa, sleeping in awkward positions.
His heart softened at the sight.
He opened the guest room door and gently carried the three children inside to sleep.
After a day of playing and encountering trouble at Yunmengze, they were exhausted.
Zhang Lu and Jiang Weixian were fast asleep, placed on the bed with blankets covering them, their eyes not even opening as they rolled over to find a comfortable position.
Only Cen Huai’an stirred when Jiang Zhida touched him, sleepily opening his eyes. “Uncle?”
“It’s me. An An, go back to sleep in the room,” Jiang Zhida said.
“Mm.” Recognizing that it was someone he trusted, Cen Huai’an followed Jiang Zhida into the room, lay down on the bed, and closed his eyes to continue sleeping.
Jiang Zhida pulled the blanket over him, turned off the light, and stepped out of the room.
Jiang Zhida was also worn out from the day’s events.
He had been on edge at the police station and felt relieved only after everything was resolved, marking the end of this crisis for Yunmengze.
However, he had learned some unsettling news from a friend at the police station.
After he reported the incident, someone else had called to report that Yunmengze was allowing guests to use drugs.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Zhida felt a wave of fear.
If it hadn’t been for Cen Huai’an, Zhang Lu, and the others noticing something was off, Yunmengze would have been in serious trouble, potentially facing a closure and mandatory overhaul.
The financial losses from being shut down would be the least of his worries; the damage to the establishment’s reputation would be far worse.
If that happened, guests would stop coming to Yunmengze, and it could quickly be replaced.
Beijing had many entertainment venues, and Yunmengze had only reaped the benefits of being the first to venture into this business, along with unique features that others didn’t possess.
But those things could be imitated, and it seemed Yunmengze had attracted unwanted attention.
Sitting in the living room, Jiang Zhida made phone calls, determined that Yunmengze wouldn’t suffer without consequence.
After years of doing business, he learned one thing: be ruthless.
If you weren’t, you’d eventually be consumed by others.
Once he had arranged everything that needed to be done, Jiang Zhida glanced at the time; it was nearly four in the morning.
Rubbing his forehead, he stood up from the chair and went straight to bed.
Next, Jiang Zhida and Yunmengze’s shareholders became busy, investigating who was targeting Yunmengze, looking into new entertainment venues opening in Beijing, and tracking various connections.
Soon, they found out who was behind the targeting, and it was a bit tricky.
The opponent wasn’t just anyone; he had a background and means and aimed to open an establishment similar to Yunmengze.
But with Yunmengze’s success as a precedent, if he didn’t take it down, his own venue wouldn’t be able to compete.
“Damn it! I can’t stand people who play dirty tricks, like disgusting rats in a sewage ditch. If they have the guts, they should come at us openly!” Shen Chuan slammed the table in frustration, wishing he could run over and confront that person.
Jiang Zhida, holding the information, replied coldly, “He knows he can’t compete with Yunmengze if he plays fair.”
Beijing was vast, and if he opened a venue elsewhere, it wouldn’t be worse than Yunmengze.
But that person had set his sights on Xidan, a prime location.
If he didn’t push Yunmengze aside, how could he succeed? Moreover, other locations already had established venues.
Tu Hongxiao said, “If he’s playing dirty, we’ll see if he has the capability to back it up!”
The group discussed their countermeasures.
They weren’t the only ones with connections; the shareholders Jiang Zhida had recruited weren’t weak either.
Once the group mobilized, the person targeting them quickly sought peace with Yunmengze.
Jiang Zhida looked at the items sent over by that person and sneered.
Shen Chuan was about to kick it, but was stopped by Tu Hongxiao.
Jiang Zhida said, “Take these back and tell your boss that things won’t go his way. He can’t just stop now that he wants to.”
Chuxia wasn’t aware of these events, and Cen Huai’an and the others had already started school, so no one would tell them what was happening at Yunmengze.
Zhang Lu, carefree, didn’t notice anything unusual, but Cen Huai’an observed that Yunmengze had tightened its security significantly; the number of security personnel had increased, and patrols were more frequent.
This was a good thing for Yunmengze, and Cen Huai’an liked this change.
“Cen Huai’an, we’ve made plans to ride bikes to the reservoir on Sunday. Are you coming?”
Cao Gao Cong, after hearing about the spring outing that Zhang Lu had mentioned, frequently organized bike trips with friends to fish and have picnics there.
They went most often in summer when nearby village kids would swim at the reservoir, and Cao Gao Cong and the others would join in.
The reservoir was large, and the water was cool, making swimming particularly refreshing.
As Cen Huai’an listened to Cao Gao Cong boast about his swimming experiences at the reservoir, his frown deepened.
“Do you know how deep that reservoir is?”
Cao Gao Cong shrugged it off, saying, “We swim upstream; it’s not that deep there. I know the downstream is deeper, but we’ve never been there.”
Cen Huai’an replied, “That reservoir is winding, with both shallow and deep areas. Just because the upstream is shallow doesn’t mean every spot is safe. What you’re doing is very dangerous.”
Seeing Cen Huai’an’s serious tone, Cao Gao Cong scratched his head, “Is it really that serious? We can all swim.”
Zhang Lu chimed in, “There’s a saying: ‘Most of those who drown can swim.’”
Cao Gao Cong: …
“The odds are too low. Even if something happens to one person, we’re all there, and we can save them,” he reasoned.
Cen Huai’an shot him a look. “Knowing how to swim and knowing how to save someone are two different things. If you save a drowning person, do you approach from the front or from behind?”
Cao Gao Cong hesitated, “From the front?”
Zhang Lu shook her head, “Wrong. You should approach from the back or the side to lift their body. If you try to save them from the front, they’ll grab onto you and pull you down with them.”
Cao Gao Cong jumped up in shock, “Is it really that scary?”
“Yep.” Zhang Lu nodded, “There are many cases where the rescuer gets pulled down by the drowning person.”
Cen Huai’an shared various cases he knew with Cao Gao Cong, and soon other classmates gathered around to listen.
