After yesterday’s incident, Sui Yuesheng really didn’t want to have any one-on-one conversations with Feng Hui regarding Tao Fengche. Before attending the parent-teacher meeting, he was still somewhat worried that Feng Hui, as the homeroom teacher, would forcibly keep him for a private talk.
If Feng Hui showed excessive concern and sympathy for Tao Fengche again, Sui Yuesheng wasn’t sure he could stop himself from exploding. Fortunately, his worries didn’t come true.
It was Feng Hui’s first time seeing Tao Fengche’s overly young guardian in person. Although she had seen him a few times on the news and was aware of his exceedingly good looks, she was still only in her early twenties, an Omega. Not only was she unable to engage in a private conversation, but when Sui Yuesheng sat in the audience, she couldn’t help but hold her breath and didn’t even dare look directly at his face.
Sui Yuesheng had always known that he was attractive, but he never imagined his appearance could have this kind of effect. He found it a bit amusing, but he was pleased with the result.
As soon as Feng Hui announced the end of the meeting from the stage, Sui Yuesheng gathered his things, put on his sunglasses, and left the classroom. Before parting, Tao Fengche had mentioned that he would wait for him at the basketball court. Sui Yuesheng casually asked a student for directions, and the student kindly led him all the way to his destination. Just as he finished thanking the student, he unexpectedly saw Tao Fengche’s figure.
But next to Tao Fengche was an Omega. The two were sitting together under the shade of a tree, looking quite close.
Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting specks of light on them. The breeze lifted the girl’s dark hair. Even Sui Yuesheng could recognize that this was a classic scene from a campus romance drama.
What’s more, that Omega was someone Sui Yuesheng had met an hour ago—the class president of Tao Fengche’s class. She was responsible for guiding the parents before the meeting, with a very outgoing personality and excellent academic performance.
And her surname was Tang, making her quite a good match for Tao Fengche in many ways.
Sui Yuesheng had to admit this, yet he inexplicably felt a bit annoyed. He stood still, staring at them for a few seconds. Then, driven by some unclear emotion, he suddenly stepped forward and interrupted their conversation.
—Tao Fengche was still a minor, not even producing pheromones yet, so dating seemed a bit premature. Besides, as his guardian, Sui Yuesheng felt it necessary to check things out if Tao Fengche were indeed dating.
Having never been in a relationship himself, Mr. Sui quickly found a reasonable excuse for his actions.
The Alpha and Omega under the tree quickly turned their heads, and upon recognizing him, their expressions were polar opposites—Tao Fengche’s face turned pale, while Tang Wanxin was full of joy.
Sui Yuesheng’s gaze shifted between the two, and his heart sank.
Was Tao Fengche upset because he interrupted his date, or was he just nervous about being caught in a teenage romance?
Sui Yuesheng had read a lot of parenting books recently, and he considered himself a half-expert on adolescent issues. He knew teenagers had unstable hormones and were prone to crushes on the opposite sex, and that these crushes might not be exclusive. There were too many examples of this, and in the Western Continent, they even had a specific word for it: crush.
Just like Tao Fengche’s “crush” on him.
Sui Yuesheng thought he was prepared to accept this and understood that Tao Fengche’s feelings for him didn’t really count. But when this moment came, he still felt it was too soon.
…Not long ago, Tao Fengche had looked at him with such focus, as if seeing him alone brought endless joy and satisfaction, as if… he was his entire world.
The air grew tense, and Sui Yuesheng felt slightly short of breath. He pursed his lips and was about to switch to mouth breathing when the girl, with her delicate face, spoke up.
“Hello, Ge. I’m Tang Wanxin. Since you’re Tao Fengche’s brother and I’m his friend, I’ll just call you Ge.” Tang Wanxin was visibly excited. “My dad is Tang Zhengming, the vice president at Jingpu Bank. I also have an older sister who’s an Omega, about to turn 25. She graduated from Jingpu University’s graduate school. She’s really beautiful and a great person. Ge, if you’re single, are you interested in getting to know her?”
“Huh?” Sui Yuesheng was stunned for a moment, unable to believe what he had just heard.
Luckily, his sunglasses hid the shock in his eyes.
“Wanxin, may I call you that?” Sui Yuesheng smiled slightly, and after seeing her nod, he continued, “Thank you for the offer, but I’ve just taken over a company and am very busy, so I don’t have the time for a relationship right now.”
He gave a generic excuse, and under normal circumstances, people would usually let it go at that. However, the word “give up” didn’t seem to exist in Tang Wanxin’s vocabulary.
Her eyes sparkled. “But Ge, don’t you need a thoughtful Omega by your side? My sister isn’t clingy. You could add each other as friends and chat first. Even if you don’t end up dating, you could still be friends.”
She was hoping to turn Sui Yuesheng into her brother-in-law and, through that connection, get into his social circle and perhaps even meet Jiang Jingyun!
As Jiang Jingyun’s top fangirl, Tang Wanxin was not one to give up easily.
Sui Yuesheng: “…”
He was starting to feel a headache coming on.
Since returning to Jingpu, Sui Yuesheng had met people trying to set him up, but usually, when he declined, they would let it go. He had never encountered someone so persistent. And since she was a female Omega and a classmate of Tao Fengche’s, he had to be tactful in his responses.
After going back and forth for some time, with Tang Wanxin showing no signs of giving up, Sui Yuesheng had no choice but to surrender.
He used his ultimate trump card.
As autumn days darkened early, the sun had already set. Even for someone like Sui Yuesheng, the sunlight now wasn’t too harsh. He took off his sunglasses, revealing his ice-blue eyes, resembling floating ice on the ocean’s surface.
“Well…” he bit his lip, lowered his head, and gazed directly into the girl’s eyes, wearing a perfectly measured expression of awkwardness mixed with a bit of shyness. “I already have someone I like.”
A blush crept onto Tang Wanxin’s cheeks as she instinctively averted her gaze, unable to maintain eye contact. “I see, now I understand. Ge, why didn’t you say so earlier?”
Reflecting on their previous conversation, even she felt somewhat embarrassed.
With her dream of bringing Sui Yuesheng into the Tang family shattered, Tang Wanxin no longer saw any point in pressing the issue. She stood up, dusted off her clothes, mentioned that her family’s driver was waiting at the school gate, waved goodbye, and ran off.
Sui Yuesheng wasn’t aware of the school rule that no one could leave before 5:30, so he didn’t realize she had just made up an excuse. Smiling politely as she left, he felt a wave of relief wash over him.
He admitted to himself that, among all the Omegas he had encountered, Tang Wanxin was one of the top three most persistent. Her relentless determination had given him a headache, and negotiating with her had been more exhausting than interrogating a criminal.
…At least, when interrogating criminals, you could use a gun.
After finally sending her off, Sui Yuesheng let out a long breath. But when he turned around, he met Tao Fengche’s eyes, filled with resentment.
The young Alpha, who hadn’t managed to get a word in, had been staring at him intently for quite some time.
A chill ran down Sui Yuesheng’s spine, and he felt a strange sense of unease.
