From behind, the little ball of energy looked just like a startled kitten—her sudden reactions were absolutely adorable.
Yu Jinxiao’s mischievous side was piqued. He crouched down behind her and continued his devilish whispering, “The bread is counted by head. If you steal some, that means another child won’t get any.”
Her round little figure shook again. Her tiny shoulders trembled, and she whipped her head around in panic.
Yu Yuanyuan still had a few breadcrumbs on the corner of her mouth. Her big, shiny black eyes widened in shock. “Re… really?”
“Of course,” Yu Jinxiao said seriously, trying to scare her, “I saw you eat two pieces, which means one child will go without.”
One child would miss out on bread because of her…
They wouldn’t get any bread because of her…
No bread…
With a whimper, Yu Yuanyuan squatted down with the plate in her hands, looking pitiful as she sniffled, “Yuanyuan didn’t mean to… Yuanyuan just… waah…”
Yu Jinxiao’s eyebrow twitched. He had a bad feeling about this.
“Just…?”
What does she mean by “just”? Don’t tell me she’s planning to take the bread out of her stomach?
After whimpering for a while, Yu Yuanyuan peeked at him with her little eyes and finally scooted closer to whisper in his ear, “Daddy, can we make a deal?”
Yu Jinxiao had a bad premonition—this little rascal definitely wasn’t planning anything good.
“Yuanyuan ate two pieces, so that’s one extra… Daddy, can you give your head to another child?”
In broad daylight, Yu Jinxiao felt a chill down his spine.
What did she mean, give his “head” to another child?
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Yu Jinxiao instinctively touched his neck, as if to make sure his head was still attached. “What ‘head’?”
Yu Yuanyuan grew anxious, bouncing up and down with her plate in front of him. “Didn’t Daddy say the bread is divided by head count?” Her tiny paw pointed at his head. “Can Daddy give his head portion to another kid? When Yuanyuan grows up and makes money, Yuanyuan will buy Daddy an even bigger, yummier cake!”
“What’s going on?” Gao Zhou, having just finished handing out fruit, squatted down curiously. He was munching on two pieces of bread, looking ferociously amused.
Yu Yuanyuan, hearing the sound, immediately pounced on Gao Zhou and grabbed his wrist, exclaiming, “Gao Susu! If you eat two, some other kid won’t get any!”
“Who said that?” Gao Zhou blinked, then pointed to the side. “There’s still plenty over there. I made sure to buy extra.”
Yu Yuanyuan’s trembling little shoulders suddenly stilled. She looked at the pile of goodies with wide, delighted eyes, momentarily forgetting to be upset with her dad for tricking her.
“Are you happy now?” Gao Zhou grinned as he coaxed her. But a cold, accusing voice drifted from behind.
His grin froze in place as he quickly straightened up, trying to act innocent. “Wasn’t this what Mr. Yu wanted?”
Yu Jinxiao stared him down expressionlessly, making Gao Zhou feel uneasy.
Haha, what he meant was to buy a little extra, not a whole lot extra.
Gao Zhou, feeling guilty, quickly grabbed some cookies and handed them to Yuanyuan.
“Wow, these are my favorite cookies!” Yu Yuanyuan held them up like treasures, her eyes sparkling like the brightest stars in the night.
The joy of children is always simple and pure, and its infectiousness spread to everyone around, lifting their spirits.
On the steps, many children sat happily enjoying their snacks and treats, their faces beaming with smiles.
Yu Jinxiao’s cold gaze swept back to Gao Zhou, sending a shiver down his spine.
Still, Yu Jinxiao couldn’t really be mad at him. After all, what he did wasn’t wrong.
“Daddy, you’re amazing!!!” Yu Yuanyuan cheered, bouncing up and down in front of the mountain of supplies. “Daddy is a good person!!!”
Not satisfied with just cheering, the little one dashed back to her father, wrapped her tiny arms around his neck, and gave him a big kiss on the cheek.
