Chapter 234 : Finding Trouble
During dinner, Lu Yunyao asked with concern, “Mr, how did you suddenly get poisoned? Who did this?”
He had only gone to an important business dinner, how could he have suddenly fallen victim?
Who wanted to harm him?
Fu Sichan, not wanting her to worry, replied, “It’s a competitor in the business world. You don’t need to worry, I’ll handle it.”
Lu Yunyao placed her hand on his arm, her small face furrowing with concern. “Mr, don’t hide it from me. This is a big deal, I have the right to know.”
What kind of opponent would resort to such underhanded methods?
Shouldn’t they use poison instead?
Seeing he couldn’t hide it from her, Fu Sichan finally admitted, “It’s probably Bai Xuan.”
Lu Yunyao paused for a moment before realizing. Bai Xuan had always liked him, she must have drugged him at the party to take advantage of the situation.
But how could a top student studying abroad stoop to such a degrading act?
“Mr, where did Bai Xuan get that drug? Even our family’s doctor said there’s no antidote.”
Fu Sichan explained, “The Bai family mainly deals in pharmaceuticals, particularly traditional Chinese medicine.”
In contrast, the Cheng family specialized in Western medicine and hospitals, dabbling in traditional medicine but not as prominently as the Bai family.
Lu Yunyao suddenly understood. “So that’s how it is.”
No wonder Bai Xuan could obtain such strange drugs, her family was involved in traditional medicine research.
“The supplements Grandma gave you seemed harmless for pregnant women individually, but combined, they posed great danger.”
“Also, when you were at the Lu family, your grandmother bought a fake ‘reincarnation pill’ that contained abortion-inducing herbs.”
“These two incidents were likely orchestrated by Bai Xuan.”
Lu Yunyao was stunned, a wave of dread washing over her.
It felt as if a cold, venomous snake had its eyes on her, sending chills down her spine.
Bai Xuan was truly terrifying.
She had become completely blinded by obsession, utterly losing her rationality.
“Mr, do you think the Bai family knows about what Bai Xuan has done?”
Fu Sichan’s expression turned cold, as if a layer of frost enveloped him.
“I can’t be sure if Old Man Bai knows, but I’m certain that Old Lady Bai is in the know!”
Lu Yunyao thought for a moment and nodded in agreement. “Exactly. Old Lady Bai understands pharmacology. If she didn’t know, she wouldn’t have recommended such supplements to Grandma.”
Or rather, as someone in the pharmaceutical industry, she should have warned Grandma Fu that this supplement was unsuitable for pregnant women.
After all, the two families were close, and she knew the Fu family had a pregnant woman.
The only possibility for Old Lady Bai not mentioning it is that she did it intentionally!
She must have planned for Grandma Fu to give the supplements to Lu Yunyao, hoping it would lead to complications during childbirth!
Lu Yunyao felt a deep wave of dread.
“Mr, the Bai family is terrifying. I can’t even imagine how many dreadful things could happen with someone like that in the medical field.”
“Do they even remember the saying, ‘Doctors have a benevolent heart’?”
Using medicine to harm others for personal gain, who could trust such a medical family?
“You don’t need to worry about this.”
Fu Sichan gently ruffled her hair.
“I already have a strategy to deal with the Bai family. Why don’t you take a break from school and rest at home for a while?”
He was concerned for Lu Yunyao’s safety and wanted her to stay home.
This was his only weakness.
However, Lu Yunyao shook her head. “Mr, I want to continue my classes.”
This opportunity to study was something she had longed for.
No matter what happened, she wanted to pursue her education.
“And besides, my belly isn’t very big yet. If I start taking a break now, once my belly grows larger, I won’t be able to go to school at all. I’d fall behind and might even have to repeat a year.”
She was already two years behind her peers in college, if she had to repeat another year, her graduation would be significantly delayed.
She didn’t want to be held back.
As long as her health permitted, she wanted to go to school.
Fu Sichan couldn’t argue with her and finally relented.
“Alright, keep your phone with you at all times. If anything happens, call me immediately.”
Lu Yunyao obediently replied, “Okay! Mr, don’t worry. I only eat in the cafeteria, so even if Bai Xuan wants to poison me, she won’t find an opportunity.”
She didn’t believe Bai Xuan would dare to poison food in the university cafeteria, unless Bai Xuan had lost her mind.
So, as long as she was careful in her daily life, she wouldn’t give those petty people a chance to harm her.
—
That day, Lu Yunyao met up with a few friends at a café.
She didn’t drink coffee but bought a can of warm milk from a nearby convenience store, sipping it slowly through a straw.
“Yaoyao, your appetite seems to have improved a lot recently?” Fang Yanran asked.
She remembered that Lu Yunyao couldn’t even stand the smell of milk a while ago and would feel nauseous at the slightest whiff.
Lu Yunyao nodded. “My appetite is much better now.”
Maybe morning sickness came in waves, depending on the baby’s mood.
“Why hasn’t Siyu arrived yet?”
Lu Yunyao replied, “She probably has something going on.”
Fang Yanran leaned closer, whispering gossip, “Let me tell you, Siyu has been acting a bit strange lately. She used to go to bars on weekends and sometimes came home late, but now, for some reason, she’s been staying at school all weekend without going out. It’s so odd.”
Li Siyu was the lively and outgoing type who loved to have fun.
She often went to bars to play games or practiced boxing at the gym, rarely staying on campus during the weekends.
What could be going on lately?
Just then, the waiter passed by their table and rolled his eyes fiercely.
“You can’t even afford a cup of coffee, and you still have the nerve to take up a seat here.”
Lu Yunyao was stunned and said uncertainly “Are you talking about me?”
The clerk taunted, “Who else but you is so shameless? If you can’t afford our coffee, then get out. You two have been sitting here for a long time, taking up our seats for nothing and affecting our business!”
Fang Yanran looked around and said, “There are so many empty seats in the store. How has this affected your business?”
If the store was full, it would be understandable for the clerk to say this.
But many seats in the store were empty. How could the clerk have the nerve to chase them away?
Lu Yunyao didn’t like conflicts with others, so she explained, “We are waiting for a friend. We will order food after she arrives.”
The clerk said “huh” in disdain.
“Okay, stop quibbling. If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford it. Why are you pretending? I’ve seen a lot of poor students like you. You just come to the cafe to take a few photos and post them on WeChat Moments to show off, but you can’t bear to buy anything in the end. Go away, get out of here right now!”
