It would have been fine if nothing was said, but once mentioned… Yu Mingxi couldn’t help but notice how much the colors actually resembled food.
Yellowish, pinkish, and with a dash of white.
If you placed a near-sighted person in front of Yu Yuanyuan, they would definitely say she looked like a walking piece of bacon.
“It’s fine. Being called ‘tasty’ is a compliment,” Yu Jinxiao said, seriously.
He couldn’t think of anything else to downplay the strange resemblance.
Although Yu Yuanyuan did look like bacon, the vibrant clash of colors was softened by the natural “sweet and obedient” vibe she carried, making the whole look seem more proper than it should have been.
Aunt Chen had also styled her hair differently, opting for an adorable double bun look.
The two round buns, one on each side, combined with her irresistibly cute face, somehow made the otherwise hopeless outfit come back to life.
To be honest, Aunt Chen had been worried before dressing Yu Yuanyuan that the outfit might not look good and that the little girl might reject it.
After all, Mr. Yu rarely bothered with such trivial matters like clothing.
“Daddy is right,” Yu Yuanyuan nodded seriously. “Looking tasty is a compliment! Yuanyuan only eats things that look tasty!”
Yu Jinxiao: Plan successful √
He had successfully distracted the little one. Now, onto the second concern.
Yu Yingze’s extracurricular class was about to end soon.
Coming home after a full day of school and finding out he had a new sister might be a bit too sudden.
However, given the situation earlier, there was no better way out. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision, and now he had to take responsibility for it.
Besides, this little one didn’t seem like she would be too much trouble.
Yu Yingze, unlike the more frail Yu Mingxi, loved sports. Twice a week, he attended soccer training after school.
Based on the time, he would be home soon.
Yu Mingxi had welcomed Yuanyuan into the family, but Yu Yingze? That was another story.
Thinking back to Yu Yingze’s reaction last night when he first met Yuanyuan gave Yu Jinxiao a headache.
For a man who had negotiated countless business deals, he had never found himself this stressed before.
Sigh. Negotiating a billion-dollar deal seemed easier than this.
“Wow, Dad! You’re home so early today!” As soon as he walked through the door, Yu Yingze exclaimed in surprise.
He hadn’t seen his father home before dark for over a month.
“Yingze, come here. We need to talk—just between us men,” Yu Jinxiao had rehearsed this in his mind for a long time, but he still felt unsure.
Yu Yingze’s smile instantly disappeared, replaced with a more serious look. “What’s wrong?”
“I adopted Yuanyuan today.”
Silence.
More silence.
For a moment, Yu Jinxiao doubted whether his son had heard him at all.
“You said she wasn’t your illegitimate daughter!!” Yu Yingze bit his lip, his fists clenched and trembling. “You lied! You’ve been lying all along!”
“Yuanyuan isn’t my illegitimate daughter. I adopted her. It’s adoption.”
“What’s the difference?” Unable to hold back his emotions any longer, Yu Yingze burst into tears. “I don’t want another sister! I don’t!! I only want my old sister back! I don’t want anyone else!!”
“Yingze…” Yu Jinxiao felt a wave of sadness wash over him at the rejection laced with grief.
No one wanted his youngest daughter to return more than he did, but…
Some things, once they happened, couldn’t be undone. No one could change the past.
People lost to memories would never return.
“I know it’s hard to accept right now, but trust me, Yuanyuan isn’t here to replace your sister.”
“I! Don’t! Believe! You!”
Crying hysterically, Yu Yingze stormed upstairs, his bookbag slung over his shoulder, and just as he reached the top of the stairs, he ran into Yuanyuan, who had just come out of her room.
“Second Brother!” Completely unaware of what had just happened, Yuanyuan beamed and opened her arms wide, hoping for a hug.
But seeing her come out of that room sent a surge of fury through Yu Yingze.
Before she could even touch the edge of his shirt, his voice thundered through the house, “Don’t touch me!”
