{“Are you thinking about becoming Xingxing ‘s stepmother?” 1}
“Who else is in the little house that Miss Yu envisions?”
Yu Suyue hesitated for a moment, feeling as though she had misheard something.
She couldn’t believe that the big shot would pay attention to such details.
But Bian Yuan leaned in closer, looking as if he wouldn’t let it go, entirely serious and not joking at all. Yu Suyue couldn’t tell whether this was just a fleeting curiosity or… a long-planned test.
Yu Suyue answered honestly, “My parents… They’re originally from Beijing. Twenty years ago, they had to leave due to some issues. If I had a little house, I could bring them back.”
Bian Yuan received the answer he was seeking.
As he expected, there was no mention of him or Bian Yixing in her response. He had to calmly and rationally consider the timing; perhaps in her heart, they weren’t part of her current life… Ironically, he felt a sense of relief at the absence of that man’s name.
Before this, he had never been distracted by anyone else or anything else.
He quietly slipped the black card back into her cloud-patterned bag.
Yu Suyue was completely unaware.
She was still puzzled about the significance of Bian Yuan’s question and why he had looked so serious all the way. But after leaving Bian Yuan and returning to the dorm with Bian Yixing, she found the card again in her bag.
“Buy whatever you want; you don’t have to spend it on Bian Yixing.”
He had truly seen through her embarrassment.
Then why did he intentionally make her pay outside? Wasn’t that just bullying?
Yu Suyue was increasingly confused by Bian Yuan’s behavior, but the black card felt warm in her palm.
So she decided not to dwell on it.
She had received a considerable sum of money, and her parents could finally return to Beijing from Beichuan.
Even if it meant taking on over two million in loans, Yu Suyue felt that after graduation, she should indeed contribute to her family. The feeling of spending money on family was entirely different from being consumed by Lin Wushen.
Thinking of Lin Wushen, she recalled the gift she had given him—a rather expensive laptop.
She had gritted her teeth to buy it, giving it to him under the guise of a coffee shop gift. Now that she had Xingxing and had dispelled her inner demons, it was about time to reclaim it.
After all, that laptop could fetch quite a bit on Xianyu.
And she was about to bear a hefty loan.
Her contemplation caught Song Yuren’s attention. After playing with Bian Yixing for a while, she tiredly settled the little one at her bedside and came over to subtly probe Yu Suyue.
“Are you and Mr. Bian close?”
“You two take care of the child together… I noticed that a while ago,” Song Yuren said, while the other two roommates remained silent.
Yu Suyue was confused. “I really thought you had left early.”
“No, I’m just wondering how you got involved with Bian Yuan,” Song Yuren said, looking worried. After seeing Yu Suyue eagerly ordering food for the father and daughter, she recalled Yu Suyue’s previous foolish gifts to Lin Wushen and felt the need to remind her, “Yu Suyue, let me be clear: while Xingxing is adorable, you clearly shouldn’t be chasing after Bian Yuan.”
“Even if he’s worth billions, if a man won’t let you spend his money, it means his heart isn’t with you.”
That wasn’t it.
Yu Suyue still couldn’t comprehend why her friend had been so observant and emotional, only to doubt her feelings for Bian Yuan.
Yu Suyue responded seriously, “I’m not.”
“I’m telling you, this isn’t the same as taking care of someone else’s child,” Song Yuren said, trying to be persuasive. “You should know that the richer a man is, the more shrewd he becomes. You need to be extra careful with someone like Bian Yuan!”
Seeing that Yu Suyue hadn’t reacted normally after a long time, Song Yuren was finally fed up. “Do you want to be Xingxing’s stepmother?”
Yu Suyue thought her roommate had an overactive imagination and couldn’t help but interrupt, but at that moment, the little one suddenly jumped up from the bed.
“I don’t want Su Su to be my stepmother!” Bian Yixing exclaimed, clearly shocked. Su Su was her real mother!
How could such an absurd thing happen? Why would her own mom become a stepmother?!
The child couldn’t fully grasp the situation, but seeing her outburst, Song Yuren was quite satisfied and added, “Don’t worry, I’ll talk to her properly.”
Yu Suyue couldn’t make sense of her roommate’s ridiculous behavior and asked, “Have you checked your thesis for plagiarism?”
“It seems you’re already in too deep.”
Song Yuren didn’t care about Yu Suyue’s attempt to change the subject. She had a bad feeling and thought her friend might suffer at the hands of that man.
“Just got rid of Lin Wushen, and now you’re dealing with someone who isn’t even in your league.”
Yu Suyue had thought about it a hundred times but still couldn’t understand. “Why do you think I like Xingxing’s dad?”
That was the crux of the matter.
