Chapter 468: An Old Acquaintance Arrives
When Ye Wenxin said this, her expression didn’t show the slightest hint of displeasure. It was Ye Tian who hesitated and glanced at Ye Wenxin, as if seeking an answer from her.
“Love… Of course I still love her. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have waited all these years. But I’ve realized over time, I may be called Ye Tian, yet I’m still powerless against the heavens. In that case, why not find someone more suitable?” Ye Tian sighed again.
Ye Wenxin let out a cold laugh. “You haven’t even tried, so how do you know how high the heavens are? If I were you, I wouldn’t care that Sister has already become a nun. I don’t believe in the heavens and destiny. I only follow my heart.” She raised her brows in challenge, showing her disdain at Ye Tian’s response.
If she loved someone, she would be willing to overturn the world for that person, even if it meant dying a spectacular death. However, in her eyes, Ye Tian’s love was far too small. He had waited a mere few decades. If it were her, she would be willing to wait for hundreds, even thousands of years.
Unfortunately, Ye Wenxin didn’t understand love herself. She hadn’t met the one who could stir her heart, and had even gotten mixed up in her attraction for the fairer sex along the way. Even so, she realized she hadn’t truly fallen for anyone.
In comparison, her adopted brother seemed to be in a much better situation.
“Ah, you’re still young and don’t understand many things.” Ye Tian didn’t argue with her, believing that Ye Wenxin only had this naïve thinking because of her age.
Ye Wenxin gave no response, but when she considered her age in both this world and Earth, she felt she had already weathered over seventy years of trials and hardships.
Their conversation ended on a sour note. Ye Tian once again tried to get close to Ah Jiu, only to be met with failure.
In front of Jin Xiaoqin, Ye Wenxin didn’t dare to be too outspoken, fearing that Jin Xiaoqin might become jealous. So, she quietly helped serve dishes until the end. The male disciples took care of the washing up, allowing the female disciples to finally relax.
Ye Wenxin felt a little apologetic, when she heard one of the male disciples shyly say, “Junior Sister, you girls just focus on being beautiful. Leave the heavy work to us men.”
Ye Wenxin found these words strangely familiar. When she looked again, she saw that the few male disciples were wearing eager expressions, seemingly harboring thoughts about the people around her. However, none of them showed any admiration for Ye Wenxin herself, which irritated her so much that she decided to do absolutely nothing, and lazily bask in the sun instead.
As a guest, Ah Jiu also had plenty of leisure time. She had repeatedly suggested leaving in the past few days, but was ultimately detained due to the main roads being closed off. Ye Tian showed a peculiar expression when he commented on this. Ye Wenxin immediately understood it was his scheme.
Although Ah Jiu was well aware of this, she didn’t expose it. She continued to move about as Abbess Jiunan, but lately, Ah Jiu’s appearances had become more frequent.
She was skilled in singing and dancing, with a resonant and pleasant voice. Ye Tian was completely enamored with her, while Ah Jiu seemed to be in no hurry. Ye Wenxin couldn’t shake the feeling that Ah Jiu was waiting for the right moment, but she couldn’t quite grasp what that moment might be.
Time flew by, and half a month had passed. Two-thirds of the cultivators had left, leaving fewer than a hundred behind.
To help the people of Yangzhou City quickly return to their normal lives, everyone had moved from their large base camp to stay within the city, working diligently each day to help rebuild homes. They would wake up at sunrise and work until sunset.
Each time Ye Wenxin returned to the inn where they were staying, she would find it filled with various foods.
“Why are there so many again? I thought they didn’t have enough to eat?” Ye Wenxin looked a bit bewildered at the abundance of food. The citizens had suffered far longer, yet they were always worried about the cultivators starving. They even went so far as to scrape together what little food they had to share.
The innkeeper wore a helpless expression. “I did tell them what you told me to say, miss, but they said they had nothing to repay you with, so they could only donate some food. Please accept it. If it weren’t for all of you, Yangzhou City would no longer exist.”
The crisis had arisen from the game meat incident, and was ultimately altered through the joint efforts of several cultivators. Typically, cultivators remained aloof from worldly affairs, and didn’t involve themselves in the conflicts of various dynasties. However, they showed remarkable unity during the recent war against the Jiangshi King.
Rebuilding homes turned out to be an even more arduous task, once most of the crisis had passed. Ye Wenxin felt a deep resonance with this, recalling similar incidents that had occurred back on Earth. Without the efforts of certain people, she truly didn’t know what would’ve happened.
“If you see them, please convey our thanks.” Ye Wenxin ultimately accepted this goodwill, becoming even more resolved to visit Liu Churan.
She wanted to persuade her adopted daughter to stop her reckless actions. If this kept up, the entire world might be in danger. As she pondered how to find Liu Churan to settle the grudges between them, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her back.
“You little demon! Weren’t you behaving yourself a few days ago? Why are you acting up again!?” Ye Wenxin endured the sharp pain, cradled her things, and returned to her room. Once inside, she stripped off her robe to inspect her back.
As far as she could see, the peach blossom tree behind her had fully taken shape, magnificent and vibrant, as though living peach blossoms existed on her back. However, from the time it first appeared, the peach blossom spirit attached to Ye Wenxin hadn’t harmed her, until now.
Strangely, though, she no longer felt any desire for wrestling, as if the peach blossom spirit had merged with her special ability, once again altering the structure of her body.
Ye Wenxin sighed as she looked at her back, feeling the sting growing stronger. She couldn’t understand why the peach blossom demon was acting so unusual today. Suddenly, she heard someone shouting outside.
“Madam Yu is here.”
“Madam Yu? Green Isle Manor’s Madam Yu?”
Ye Wenxin was slightly startled. She had been wondering why Green Isle Manor, one of the Ten Great Immortal Sects, had only sent ordinary disciples, and no senior figures.
After she heard Madam Yu’s name, Ye Wenxin finally understood. Either Madam Yu wouldn’t come, or she’d show up personally.
“She really handles everything personally, huh. But isn’t it a little late to show up now?” Ye Wenxin put on a coat, opened the window, and spotted Madam Yu just stepping down from the carriage.
She wore an elegant light green dress, graceful as always, with her hair styled in the manner of a married woman. Qiao Ni stood dutifully beside her, looking quite lively in a dark blue dress.
However, Qiao Ni didn’t seem to have grown at all since the last time Ye Wenxin had seen her. The little girl watched Madam Yu descend from the carriage, and then began glancing around restlessly, as if searching for something.
Ye Wenxin had a feeling that Qiao Ni was looking for her, so she called out softly, “Brat, are you looking for me?”
