I’m Done Being In Love With You Chapter 2.2

Chapter 2.2 Dead Water

Gu Chuan knew what those words meant, leukemia.

“Miss Jian, once this disease is diagnosed, it’s best to treat it as soon as possible.” Then, the doctor looked at Gu Chuan, “Sir, are you Miss Jian’s family?”

“I… I am her friend.” Gu Chuan said while always looking at Jian Meng, who remained silent.

“Indeed, all chemotherapy for cancer is very painful, so I hope that you, relatives and friends, can accompany Miss Jian well and help her psychologically.”

Gu Chuan nodded absentmindedly.

Gu Chuan never expected that seeing Jian Meng again would be in such a scenario.

Later, Gu Chuan escorted Jian Meng back. Before leaving, he asked, “What are you planning to do?”

Jian Meng got out of the car, still the same gentle and reserved girl, but her eyes were a bit red, and her face was too pale.

“Treat the illness, slowly treat it when there’s an illness.”

“Yes, Ji Jing’an will accompany you.” Gu Chuan comforted her against his will, feeling sad for Jian Meng on one hand, and fearing that she would discover Ji Jing’an’s betrayal on the other hand, but little did he know that Jian Meng had long been aware.

“Thank you.” Jian Meng closed the car door, turned around, and disappeared into the thick autumn fog.

As soon as she entered, Ji Jing’an was also at home, holding a business magazine in his hand, his deep black eyes under the golden wire glasses unfathomable.

“You’re back?” Jian Meng clenched the medical report in her hand, which she was prepared to show Ji Jing’an. She hesitated; she was afraid that Ji Jing’an would be upset if he knew, she didn’t want Ji Jing’an to be upset.

“Yeah, fortunately, I’m back.” Ji Jing’an closed the magazine in his hand and looked up, “Otherwise, wouldn’t you have brought Gu Chuan home?”

Jian Meng suddenly froze, “What do you mean?”

“Isn’t that Gu Chuan’s car? Why, couldn’t wait to see him so urgently?”

“It’s Gu Chuan, he drove me back, we met at the hospital.”

Ji Jing’an rarely wore glasses. After taking off his glasses, his slightly cold eyes became even more penetrating. He didn’t ask about Jian Meng’s hospital test results, only cared about the person who brought her back.

“Hospital, isn’t Gu Chuan a news editor, still involved in treating illnesses?” Ji Jing’an suddenly laughed, “Right, old feelings are hard to forget, isn’t he just back to see you after so many years without getting married or having a lover, rushing back from London a week ago just because we have cooperation with his father’s company, why? Just to see you?”

“Ji Jing’an!” Jian Meng finally couldn’t bear it. He could target himself, but why smear others, “What nonsense are you talking about?”

“He never gave up when we were together. After so many years, not getting married, no lovers, as soon as he heard about the cooperation between my father’s company and his, he hurried back from London a week ago. Why? Just to see you?”

“Ji Jing’an, why are you causing trouble? Is this how you see me in your heart?” Jian Meng, in panic, shed tears, but Ji Jing’an remained indifferent to those few drops of tears.

In college, Gu Chuan and Jian Meng were recognized as a perfect match in the Literature Department, but later Ji Jing’an intervened.

“Am I causing trouble? I’ve always been like this. I started from scratch, naturally not as noble as Gu Chuan, who grew up in luxury. Ten years ago, didn’t you chase after him? Regretting it now?”

Jian Meng stood there stunned, feeling a bit absent-minded. Her mind was clear, but her body couldn’t feel anything.

After Ji Jing’an said this, he regretted it too. It had been a long time since someone had accused him of being disobedient. In a fit of anger, he forgot that the person in front of him was Jian Meng, who had been with him all along.

He walked over to hug her, remembering how obedient she always was and how easily she could be comforted.

But as his hand reached out, Jian Meng took a step back and dodged.

“I’m sorry.”

It was Jian Meng who apologized first.

She was afraid that Ji Jing’an would leave her again like he did half a month ago,

But why was she apologizing?

Jian Meng herself didn’t know if it was for disobeying Ji Jing’an, accusing him of causing trouble, or apologizing for agreeing to be with him ten years ago.

“Meng, that’s not what I meant…” Ji Jing’an’s cold expression softened. Hearing Jian Meng apologize, it felt like a thorn pricking at his heart, causing a subtle ache. He approached her again, embraced her, and stroked her soft hair.

Jian Meng just turned her head slightly and threw the report in her hand into the nearby trash can.

She used to be afraid of upsetting Ji Jing’an, that’s why she didn’t tell him. But now, whether she tells him or not doesn’t matter anymore. Ji Jing’an no longer loves her, so there won’t be any sadness.

She had long been alone, bearing the pain on her own. Even though the man in front of her was the one she had loved for ten years, she was still lonely.

Jian Meng leaned against Ji Jing’an’s chest, but the man who used to be warm had now turned cold and stiff. She wanted to resist instinctively, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t push him away. She could only reluctantly rest her face on his shoulder, looking into the void, as if trying to see the past love through this cold darkness. But all she saw was sorrow and suppression.

A stagnant pond.
