Wu Yuanyuan and two others also tagged him.
He Ye, who was quietly looking at her screen: …
Lu Jin quickly sent a restaurant suggestion to change the topic.
The next day, when He Ye went out again, Lu Jin and Zhou Xiangming were waiting outside Building 7.
Zhou Xiangming said dramatically, “Oh my god, He Ye looks like this. I forgot what she looked like after so long!”
He Ye laughed at him.
How strange! Lu Jin is her boyfriend, but she feels more comfortable with Zhou Xiangming.
With Zhou Xiangming joining them, the mood became lively. Unlike He Ye and Lu Jin’s internship life, Zhou Xiangming had an amazing summer vacation, almost always traveling.
“Look at me compared to Lu Jin, we are like black and white!”
He Ye smiled: “It won’t help to cover up once school starts.”
Zhou Xiangming: “Then you forgot about military training in college. After two weeks, I’ll be even darker.”
He Ye couldn’t help but laugh at his tanned face.
Lu Jin, walking on the other side of He Ye, seemed a bit out of place, like a bystander during their senior year of high school.
When they arrived at the restaurant, He Ye was surrounded by her two good friends and paid even less attention to her boyfriend.
The hot pot was served, and everyone started eating and talking, with complaints about Lu Jin becoming the main topic.
Zhu Qing joked, “You and Xiao Ye will be in a long-distance relationship now. Xiao Ye studies mechanical engineering, and her class is mostly boys. Can you handle the competition?”
Lu Jin smiled but didn’t say much.
Zhou Xiangming dismissed Zhu Qing: “You don’t know his skills. Let me tell you, he’s very clever! When He Ye wanted to apply to Jiaotong University, I worried about Lu Jin, but what did he say? Ahem…”
Then, Zhou Xiangming pretended to imitate Lu Jin’s expression and voice, saying with a serious face:
“We can video chat during the week and meet on weekends and during summer and winter vacations. It’s not too far.”
“Five hours on the high-speed train isn’t bad.”
Everyone was speechless: “…”
Zhu Qing was the first to react to Lu Jin: “No way! You didn’t even catch up with Xiao Ye back then, and you didn’t check the high-speed train schedule from Beijing to Shanghai?”
Lu Jin stayed calm and just looked at his girlfriend.
He Ye was shocked when she heard this for the first time. She couldn’t believe he was actually planning to take the high-speed train to see her every week.
Zhou Xiangming scoffed, “Don’t underestimate Lu Jin. He waited a year to make a move on He Ye. What’s a five-hour train ride? With his looks, money, and free time, He Ye can’t compete with Lu Jin, no matter how many male classmates are around her.”
Li Liang added, “Yes, Lao Lu either doesn’t want to date, or if he does, no one can steal his girlfriend.”
Zhu Qing hugged He Ye and joked, “You’re so unlucky! There’s such a big forest outside, but you can only look at it and not eat it.[1]phrase that conveys that idea is “a world of possibilities just out of reach.” This suggests there are many opportunities available, but something prevents you from taking advantage of … Continue reading”
Zhou Xiangming said, “It’s fine. Our Lu Jin has both looks and abs, so it’s not a loss to enjoy it.”
These words were a bit crude, making He Ye blush.
Lu Jin kicked Zhou Xiangming lightly from below.
This farewell party lasted until three in the afternoon.
Zhou Xiangming left with Li Liang. Lu Jin took He Ye home alone and stayed close to her, following her into the apartment.
It felt unsafe to go to the stairwell in broad daylight, so He Ye brought him home.
Worried that her father might return unexpectedly, she carefully locked the door.
When they reached the study, He Ye sat down first and motioned for her boyfriend to sit by the bay window so they could keep some distance.
Lu Jin looked out the window and pulled the curtains closed.
He was so tall that he sat on the edge of the bay window, stretching one leg under He Ye’s feet. He turned her swivel chair to face him.
He Ye looked down and asked, “Do you really want to go to Shanghai every week in the future?”
Lu Jin replied, “Well, unless it’s required for classes or something unexpected happens.”
He Ye said, “Don’t come. The high-speed train costs over a thousand yuan, which is more than four thousand yuan a month. It’s such a waste.”
Lu Jin replied, “It’s better than someone else stealing you.”
He Ye glared at him: “I’m not that kind of person.”
Even if someone tried to steal her away, she would never betray her boyfriend. This is a matter of principle.
Lu Jin said, “I know. I came to you because I missed you.”
He Ye felt shy from his sweet words, and it was even more awkward to hear him say it face to face. She clenched her hands and replied, “The video is the same.”
Lu Jin: “It’s different.”
What’s the difference?
He pulled He Ye into his arms, kissed her, and moved his hands.
Those who are skilled at progressing in relationships usually count to “forty.”
He Ye grabbed his short hair, feeling confused. Was this really just a matter of getting used to it?
But she suddenly thought, Lu Jin had to see her every week; was it just for this? Otherwise, video calls would be enough.
If that’s the case, then what will happen?
Sounds more like…
He Ye pushed him away.
Lu Jin thought their time was up, so he lingered a bit before lifting his head to kiss her again.
He Ye felt uncomfortable and blocked his kiss.
She had always been shy, so Lu Jin changed it up by kissing the top of her head and helping her straighten her clothes.
He Ye stood aside and softly said, “It’s time to go.”
Lu Jin held her hand and looked at her with mixed feelings: “Our school starts on the 27th. Even after that day, I’ll only have three days to be with you.”
He Ye thought that was fine: “I’ve spent the whole summer with you.”
Lu Jin pulled her back onto his lap, saying helplessly, “I can tell you don’t miss me at all.”
He Ye turned away, feeling guilty.
Lu Jin nuzzled her neck and asked, “Want to visit Jiaotong University early?”
He Ye turned back in surprise.
Lu Jin continued: “I’ll go with you. We’ll leave early tomorrow morning, visit the campus and attractions, and return in the evening. It’ll be our last date before school starts.”
He Ye knew it took only one hour by high-speed rail from Ancheng to Shanghai. Since it was so convenient, she thought, why not visit Jiaotong University first? After all, staying at home wouldn’t help her see Lu Jin.
“Can you just go to college?” she asked.
“Basically, it’s fine,” Lu Jin replied, then pulled out his phone to buy tickets.
He Ye watched as he entered her ID number while adding her as a passenger.
Surprised, she asked, “How did you know?”
“I saw it once,” he answered.
When it was time to pay, He Ye said, “I’ll buy mine myself.”
But Lu Jin paid anyway, looking at her with a serious expression. “Why do you want to divide it? Sooner or later, it’ll all be shared,” he said.
He Ye was taken aback.
Lu Jin hugged her tightly and whispered, “He Ye, I’m serious about you. This isn’t just a casual college romance.”
Many teachers warn students that few couples survive college relationships, but Lu Jin wanted He Ye to know he was committed to being with her forever.
