Chapter 83: Song Xiaoyu’s Accident!
Yan Yueqing took a tissue, pretending to wipe her hands, and discreetly wrapped the fallen hair inside. She wondered if there were any follicles on it that could be used for a paternity test. If not… obtaining another sample later might prove challenging.
Just as she was contemplating her next move, Xu Li stood up to answer a phone call. Suddenly, with a panicked expression, she exclaimed, “Oh no! Xiaoyu’s been in a car accident!”
What happened? Everyone jumped to their feet in shock.
The Municipal People’s Hospital was near the commercial district, with numerous hotels nearby. Yan Yueqing had booked a suite in a four-star hotel, while Song Hui’s family and Qin Youran’s group stayed at a more affordable one.
Though the two locations weren’t far apart, they were separated by three roads. Song Xiaoyu’s accident occurred on the second road!
As they rushed to the hospital, they listened anxiously to Xu Li’s account of what had transpired: “Xiaohua mentioned she loved the soup I made, so Sister Tian asked Xiaoyu to bring some fruit and come for more… While crossing the street, her pocket tore, and the fruit rolled onto the road. When she turned back to retrieve them, an SUV couldn’t stop in time…”
Du Mansheng frowned as he listened. “How could this family let Xiaoyu, a young girl, go out alone?”
During the livestream, she had noticed Song Hui’s family favoring Song Xiaohua and felt sorry for Xiaoyu. Who would have thought such an incident would occur so soon after joining the show? A car accident… how painful that must be!
Xu Li sighed, “Youran was with Xiaoyu, but the little girl ran too fast to pick up the fruit. She couldn’t catch her in time…”
Yan Yueqing was speechless. This Qin Youran truly was more trouble than help! She couldn’t even manage to hold onto a child while crossing the street… utterly useless!
Suddenly thinking of something, she took a deep breath, pulled out her phone, and began tapping rapidly.
Jun Yan observed her for a moment and guessed her intention. “Sister Yueqing, are you trying to watch the livestream replay?”
“Mm,” Yan Yueqing nodded. “It’s recording time now, so the production crew must have members following the livestream closely.”
Only one family member could ride in the ambulance; Song Hui went along. Qin Youran and Tian Xiao’e took the production team’s vehicle to the hospital.
On camera, Qin Youran cried pitifully, repeatedly apologising, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! Xiaoyu ran too fast; I couldn’t hold onto her.”
Yan Yueqing dragged the progress bar back slightly. In the footage, Qin Youran was crossing the road with Song Xiaoyu, who was carrying several pieces of fruit while looking around at passing cars.
As the light turned green, Qin Youran received a call. She let go of Xiaoyu’s hand to answer it. Before she could say much, Xiaoyu’s pocket ripped open, and apples rolled onto the ground.
Song Xiaoyu immediately turned back to pick them up. Qin Youran shouted for her to come back quickly. A black SUV, timing the green light, started moving forward. The driver didn’t expect the little girl to return, and even though they slammed on the brakes, they still crashed into her fragile body with a loud bang.
The footage froze for two seconds – the crew must have been stunned! Then, the camera shook wildly as they rushed toward Xiaoyu!
Qin Youran stood frozen in place, her mind blank! The production crew members, however, quickly assessed Xiaoyu’s condition while calling for an ambulance.
After the accident, Qin Youran’s livestream exploded with traffic! The comments were overwhelmingly critical of her. Although there were one or two supportive messages, they were quickly drowned out by the flood of accusations.
[I was just praising Qin Youran for taking Xiaoyu to find Xu Li, and the next second I watched helplessly as Xiaoyu had an accident?!]
[Seriously, Qin Youran! You couldn’t pick a better time to answer your phone? Why during street-crossing?]
[Let’s not just blame Qin Youran. Xiaoyu chose to go back for the fruit! And what about that SUV? Why is it only Qin Youran’s fault?]
[The fact is, Qin Youran let go of Song Xiaoyu’s hand! If she hadn’t, would she have lost hold of her? After the accident, even the crew knew to call an ambulance while she just stood there like an idiot!]
[Yan Yueqing is right! She clearly doesn’t know how to care for children! Parents know kids run fast; if you’re not careful for even a second, they can vanish! Especially at such a critical moment like crossing a street?!]
[Enough with the Yan Yueqing praise! If she were really that great, wouldn’t she have booked rooms in the same hotel as Song Xiaoyu? How could this have happened then?]
[Seriously? That’s the best argument you’ve got? What a stretch!]
Yan Yueqing found the comments annoying and closed them off. She kept rewinding to when Song Xiaoyu was hit, even slowing it down to 0.2x speed.
Tang Tang didn’t understand and asked with a slightly trembling voice, “Godmother, why do we keep watching Sister Xiaoyu getting hit? It looks so painful…”
Yan Wang’s usually cold eyes softened as he explained, “We’re studying how the accident happened so we can respond appropriately.”
Jun Yan pointed at the screen: “The car accelerated quickly. Although it didn’t throw her, her head hit the ground first. We should prioritise checking that.”
Tang Tang understood now and watched intently: “There isn’t much blood on the ground…”
“I’m worried about internal bleeding,” Du Mansheng said. “For such a young child… if there’s severe brain trauma, things could get very serious.” She had handled many charity projects and was familiar with such situations.
Yan Wang suggested, “There’s a neurosurgeon at Ren’ai Hospital who has good relations with our family.”
Yan Yueqing sighed, “That won’t work. C City is too far away. If Xiaoyu’s condition is critical, we might not make it in time.”
Medical resources? Jun Yan could handle this! His family’s second-largest industry was healthcare. They had connections nationwide; getting someone over shouldn’t be problematic.
With this thought, he had an idea and immediately dialled his phone, speaking with authority: “Jun Jiu, are there any good neurosurgeons in Neihai City… Is Xiao Yi available? Contact him and have him arrive at the Municipal People’s Hospital within twenty minutes.”
His commanding tone stunned everyone. Was this still the same Jun Yan who clung to Yan Yueqing every day? The way he spoke now resembled a born leader! His demeanor exuded an imposing nobility.
Even Yan Wang couldn’t help but look at him again.
After hanging up, Jun Yan turned to Yan Yueqing: “Sister Yueqing, don’t worry. My family’s private doctor happens to be nearby. He’s extremely skilled. As long as he’s here, Sister Xiaoyu will be fine.”
Xiao Yi had been nurtured by the Jun family since childhood as a medical prodigy. When busy, he researched in the lab provided by the Juns; when free, he performed top-tier surgeries outside – achieving seemingly impossible miracles one after another.
He was considered an authority in China’s neurosurgery field! If he said everything would be fine, then it truly would be. Conversely, if he shook his head, there might not be any hospital in China that could save her.
As they talked, their vehicle had already arrived outside the surgical building. They quickly got out of the car and rushed upstairs
