Chapter 86: Paternity Test edited.
Xiao Yi and Li Shaozong discussed the surgical plan while Director Liu listened intently. The other senior officials showed no intention of leaving. Soon after, they proceeded to the sterilization room for preparations.
Director Liu took the initiative to set up a small stool by the large glass window separating the operating room, eager to observe this rare surgery. After blood was drawn, the nurse delivered the samples for processing.
Yan Yueqing asked the children, “Are you scared? Do you want to wait outside?”
Jun Yan replied confidently, “I’ve seen far more intense scenes. Why would I be scared of this?”
Yan Wang echoed, “I’m not afraid.”
Hearing this, Director Liu looked at them admiringly, “Such brave youngsters! I hope you two can finish watching this surgery. Perhaps you’ll pursue medicine in the future!”
Although family members weren’t typically allowed in the observation room, Xiao Yi’s authority made an exception. If the children got scared, Xiao Yi would handle it; they remained unfazed.
In the operating room, Song Xiaoyu was prepped, her hair mostly shaved to expose the swollen area.
As lead surgeon, Xiao Yi felt completely at ease. Under the high-definition microscopic projection, he navigated through the brain’s complex structures without hesitation, moving straight to the blood clot. His technique was textbook-perfect, effortlessly graceful.
Director Liu couldn’t help but admire him, “Incredible! His precision and awareness… Only Xiao Yi could remove the clot so quickly.”
The department head added, “Xiao Li has performed over 200 surgeries here in ten years. Usually, he’s calm, but today he’s nervous enough to sweat.”
“Understandable,” Director Liu remarked. “Not everyone can keep up with Xiao Yi. I’m sure Little Li learned a lot today!” As Xiao Yi began suturing, Director Liu recalled, “I heard this girl’s sister is also treated here?”
“Yes, for years. Leukemia,” the department head confirmed.
Director Liu sighed, “This family has faced so many hardships.”
Their discussion was interrupted by a clear, cold child’s voice: “Grandpa, I have a question.”
Director Liu turned to see Yan Yueqing, pale from the blood draw, flanked protectively by the two boys. Surprised by their composure, he asked, “What’s your question?”
Yan Wang, his expression serious, inquired, “If both parents have O blood type, can the child have a different type?”
“Not likely,” Director Liu explained. “Blood type inheritance is controlled by genes. The ABO blood type system is based on the presence or absence of A and B antigens in the blood. Blood with A antigens is Type A, and blood with B antigens is Type B. AB blood contains both A and B antigens, while O blood has neither. Therefore, if both parents are O-type, the child should also be O-type.”
Jun Yan, understanding Yan Wang’s intent, asked surprised, “When did you figure that out?”
“From their behavior when they returned,” Yan Wang responded coolly.
Jun Yan nodded, “I suspected something too… Now, I’m almost certain Sister Xiaoyu isn’t their biological child.”
Intrigued, Director Liu asked, “What’s going on?”
Yan Yueqing inquired, “Could your hospital perform a paternity test?”
After Director Liu confirmed, she whispered something to the boys, their eyes lighting up simultaneously.
The complex brain surgery, typically taking at least two hours, was completed by Xiao Yi in under an hour.
As he emerged, the group praised his skills and requested to keep the surgery footage. Noticing Jun Yan’s eagerness to talk, Xiao Yi agreed and approached him.
“What’s up?”
“I want to do a paternity test,” Jun Yan stated.
Xiao Yi froze, “With whom? Miss Yan?!”
Jun Yan, exasperated, said, “What are you thinking?! Why would I do a paternity test with Sister Yueqing?!”
She’s my future wife!**
Xiao Yi must’ve spent too much time in the lab to be so confused!
Exasperated, Jun Yan clarified, “No! For Sister Xiaoyu and her parents.”
Xiao Yi nearly jumped out of his skin, “Jun Yan, next time, say everything all at once!” Patting his chest, Xiao Yi wasn’t about to ask why Jun Yan made such a decision; he’d just follow orders. “Alright, I’ll talk to her parents.”
Before Xiao Yi could respond, Yan Wang interjected with an authoritative tone reminiscent of a family head, “No need. Find a way to get samples from Aunt Du.”
His tone was identical to that of the family head.
Before Xiao Yi could process what was happening, he subconsciously replied, “Sure!”
Wait!!!
Why was he taking orders from anyone other than Jun Yan?!
Where had this kid even come from?
Jun Yan, surprised, asked Yan Wang, “You think it’s Aunt Du?”
Yan Wang nodded, “I trust Mom’s instincts.”
These two were remarkably smart. Yan Yueqing had just briefly mentioned the infant kidnapping case in A City, and the boys immediately locked in on their target.
If a hair sample didn’t have a follicle, it couldn’t be used for a paternity test.
But Xiaoyu had been in a car accident, and Jun Yan had called on the highly respected Xiao Yi from the hospital.
What a perfect opportunity—not to be wasted!
Grasping their plan, Xiao Yi volunteered, “I’ll personally collect the samples and check the results in the lab.” Turning to Director Liu, he asked, “Is that okay?”
Director Liu eagerly agreed, hoping Xiao Yi would stay longer.
After brief preparations, the operating room door opened. The anxious crowd outside quickly gathered as a nurse called out, “Who is Du Mansheng?”
