{Don’t love too much 1}
Qian Xu had an email account that she used to store some online courses for Shen Qiyue. Occasionally, it also served as a communication tool between them. In the U.S., the pressure of early childhood education wasn’t overwhelming, focusing mainly on joyful learning. However, considering the possibility of returning to China in the future, Qian Xu had spent a lot of time navigating various domestic educational websites. While in the U.S., she believed she had a clear conscience, providing the best care for these two children and never slacking when it came to their education.
She had always cherished the children’s talents, teaching them how to use email at an early age.
But what she never expected was to one day find a photo of Shen Qiyue and her biological mother in that inbox. Qian Xu could understand the joy of seeing one’s biological mother, and she also knew the saying, “The love of a biological mother surpasses that of a foster mother.” However, what she couldn’t tolerate was Shen Qiyue deliberately uploading those intimate photos to the email account they shared.
The moment she saw the photo, Qian Xu’s face turned ashen.
Before this, she had always believed that the grudges between adults wouldn’t affect the children. Even when she saw the “relationship” section of the email, her thoughts were focused on how to deal with Shen Qi.
But now, she could no longer face the child she had once raised.
It felt shameless—yes, as an innocent child, you can enjoy your familial love, but you shouldn’t treat it as a noble tool to flaunt.
Moreover, it easily dismissed all of Qian Xu’s previous efforts.
Slowly and with difficulty, she lifted her eyes, struggling to suppress the tears welling up. She couldn’t help but ask herself—
If Shen Qiyue didn’t cherish this shared platform, then why did she herself insist on keeping these damned memories? Did she really think immersing herself in an email account full of the past would benefit her today?
Or was she holding onto those meaningless courses, hoping they would one day realize her value again?
Qian Xu reflected on her negligence regarding the email account. Then, she promptly changed the password.
No matter what, Shen Qiyue would never be able to access it again in her lifetime.
At that moment, young Shen Qiyue, still lost in her own blissful world, had no idea what she had just lost for the rest of her life. Perhaps it was merely a just elder, or perhaps it was the only person in this world who had truly cared for her.
–
Night fell.
The billboards in Times Square became even more prominent against the dark sky, continuously displaying ads from China.
“You’re going to the Jiangcheng reunion in New York?”
Even after confirming several times, Yan Li still couldn’t believe it. Qian Xu had never been enthusiastic about such gatherings, and now, with her relationship having ended, it would be hard to avoid being the subject of gossip at a reunion like that.
“Why wouldn’t I go?” Qian Xu’s expression betrayed no hint of emotion. “It’s just a place to eat and drink for free. Why not take advantage?”
Yan Li was quickly convinced. Although Qian Xu had been through such an awkward situation, it was ultimately good that she was willing to go out and relax. The only regret was, “Qian Xu, I have a ‘Sunday event’ at the children’s hospital tonight, so I can’t go with you…”
Qian Xu reassured her, “It’s fine. I can go on my own.”
Yan Li hesitated for a long time. “Why don’t you wait until next time when I’m free, and we can go together?”
She almost voiced her concern directly: many people at that reunion knew Shen Qi, and naturally, they were aware of the past relationship between him and Qian Xu. Plus, after Shen Qi had used Xu Xu, he left without any hesitation…
If someone there spoke carelessly, it might embarrass Qian Xu on the spot.
But Qian Xu didn’t avoid Yan Li’s gaze. She smiled and said, “I can’t spend my whole life hiding in my comfort zone just because of him.”
With just a few words, she addressed the issue directly.
Her slightly upturned eyes gave the impression that she was just getting into the game, not yet finished with her fun. Still graceful, her eyebrows now revealed a hint of sharpness. At this moment, Yan Li noticed the beauty of Qian Xu’s features. Without needing bright, pearlescent makeup, her beauty was effortless and natural.
“Xu Xu, your beauty is killing me!”
Even though Yan Li had known Qian Xu for a long time, she hadn’t fully grasped the extent of her beauty.
Just a glimpse of it surpassed most women, not to mention how stunning she would look with careful grooming.
Yan Li’s anger towards Shen Qi resurfaced. “He better hope I don’t see him. If I do, I’m giving him a hard slap.”
Qian Xu smiled but remained silent.
