The dolphin dived below the surface and used its head to nudge Yu Yuanyuan’s bag, which had fallen into the water, back up. The bright lemon-yellow bag sat comically atop the dolphin’s head, drawing laughter from the crowd.
The children and their parents, who were about to leave, couldn’t help but stop and watch.
“Wow, thank you!” Yu Yuanyuan reached out as far as her tiny arms could go, but they were too short, and she flailed helplessly in the air. “Dolphin, come a bit closer!”
As if understanding her, the dolphin swam nearer, pressing its mouth against the barrier. With a shake of its head, it nudged the bag to where Yuanyuan could grab it.
“You’re amazing, Dolphin!” The little girl happily grabbed her now-soaked bag and reached out to pat the dolphin’s head.
Gao Zhou, watching from the sidelines, felt his heart skip a beat, alarms blaring in his mind.
Although these dolphins were trained and generally friendly, Yu Yuanyuan was so small—just like a delicate kitten. If anything were to happen… he wouldn’t know how to face Mr. Yu.
“Miss Yuanyuan, please come back—” Gao Zhou started to move, but then he witnessed something that completely shattered his worldview.
Luckily, his phone was still unlocked, and he managed to capture the scene just in time.
After retrieving her bag, Yuanyuan beamed at the dolphin, patted its head, and—without warning—opened her mouth wide… nearly taking a bite out of it!
Fortunately, the dolphin reacted quickly, letting out a startled squeak as it backed away into the deeper water, flicking its tail and splashing water all over Yuanyuan in the process.
Shen Ji, who had a front-row seat to this, was just as shocked as Gao Zhou.
He could almost hear the dolphin cursing in its high-pitched chatter.
“I helped you get your bag, and you try to bite me?! How ungrateful! *&%#@!” (censored dolphin swears) “Bye, you weirdo!”
“See? I told you she’d do something like this.” Among everyone present, only Yu Yingze seemed unfazed.
He was used to the little one’s quirky behavior. I’ve seen this before, I know this routine, his expression seemed to say.
“Miss Yuanyuan, that was dangerous!” Gao Zhou pulled her back and began wiping the water off her with a tissue. “You can’t eat dolphins! They’re really not for eating.”
“I wasn’t going to eat it,” Yuanyuan lied through her little teeth, her face full of innocence. “I just wanted to smell if it was fragrant.”
Oh, sure, smelling it—right before trying to bite it!
Yu Yingze shook his head, half-smiling as he scolded her, “Do you even know how small you are? That dolphin could eat you in one bite and not need to eat for three days!”
Wha—what?! Fish can eat cats!?
In the fairyland she came from, no matter how big the fish were, her panther father and leopard mother could always catch them and turn them into a delicious family meal.
But this world was terrifying! The fish here could eat cats?
Little Yu Yuanyuan suddenly froze. After comparing her size to the dolphin’s in her mind, a wave of fear rushed over her.
“Waaah, Brother Shen Ji!” Yuanyuan cried, running and throwing herself into Shen Ji’s arms. “Yuanyuan is scared!”
Caught off guard, Shen Ji awkwardly froze, his hands hovering mid-air, unsure of where to place them.
It was as if his hands were dangerous weapons he didn’t dare to touch her with.
Comforting people had never been his strong suit.
Yu Mingxi felt a pang of disappointment. The scared little Yuanyuan hadn’t come to him first for comfort. Instead, she had rushed into the arms of a boy she had only met that day.
Shen Ji, still frozen, tried his best to craft some comforting words. “There’s nothing to be afraid of. The dolphin helped you get your bag, right? That means it sees you as a friend, and friends don’t hurt each other.”
Friends… don’t hurt friends!
Yuanyuan abruptly stopped crying. Her head shot up, and she gazed into Shen Ji’s eyes with wide, earnest eyes. “Brother Shen Ji, are you Yuanyuan’s good friend?”

Hey everyone! I hope you're enjoying what I'm translating.
