Chapter 18 Going Crazy for Love, Refusing to Marry
Qin Mohuai’s thin lips curled up, a sharp, pathological glint swirling in his eyes. “Grandpa, how did you know I bought a pink diamond and that I just happened to bring it today?”
Before old man Qin could explain, Qin Mohuai stood up, his tall, handsome figure exuding strong contours.
“I understand now. You think my condition hasn’t improved, so you’re watching me like a madman, monitoring my bank transactions and every move. What do I mean to you? A spiritual support after your son and daughter-in-law’s death? Should I die alongside them in that car accident?”
In an instant, the atmosphere grew tense, and everyone held their breath.
Old man Qin’s face turned ashen.
“Damn brat, you’re having another episode!”
Qin Mohuai sneered, “If I can’t even manage my own marriage, how can I control the vast Qin Group? How can those beneath me respect me? Do you truly wish for my happiness, or do you want to control me through marriage to flaunt your twisted desire for power?”
“Watch your mouth!” Old man Qin slammed his dragon-headed cane onto the floor, the deafening sound echoing in the room.
The butler quickly stepped forward to support him.
“Third Young Master, maybe you should tone it down. The old master truly cares about you! If he really wanted to control you through marriage, he would have made you marry the young lady from Shenghai Manor, not meticulously choose a woman who is easy to conceive and whom you’ve never met.”
Ouyang Jing: ?
Saying in front of me that I’m just a tool for having children. If I marry into your Qin family, will I have any voice or freedom?
What a suffocating, crazy family.
Qin Mohuai sank back into the sofa, his long, lazy legs crossed, his blue hair tied up in a small bun by someone, adding an artistic and wild touch to his look.
“Then let me marry the young lady from Shenghai Manor. I’m more than happy to be controlled by you, Grandpa.”
Old man Qin’s eyes widened in disbelief, realizing that Qin Mohuai had acted crazy just to set up this line.
Old man Qin found it amusing yet infuriating.
“Get out of here!”
Qin Mohuai stood up gracefully and suddenly chuckled, “Grandpa, if my grandmother knew you were interested in a girl in her twenties, and that you favored her fertility, she would probably rise from her grave to settle the score with you.”
Old man Qin raised his cane, ready to hit him.
The butler interjected, “Old Master, please calm down! The Third Young Master is just saying things in anger; don’t take it seriously. He studied hard as a child because he wanted to ease your burdens…”
Ouyang Jing followed behind Qin Mohuai, feeling like a mere supporting character, her presence inconsequential.
“Mr. Qin!”
She called out, but Qin Mohuai didn’t stop. Ouyang Jing bit her lip and added, “Your… bun is really stylish!”
Qin Mohuai paused and turned around, his cold, deep eyes glimmering with a hint of warmth. “It was made by my wife.” His tone was proud and boastful, creating a strange contrast to his usually aloof demeanor.
Like a beautiful infected being amidst the apocalypse, he would wield a sharp blade to eliminate all who oppose him, becoming an indescribable terror. Yet, in front of his soft spot, he put away his weapon, tied up a bun, and sweetly coaxed his wife.
Ouyang Jing shook her head, almost entranced by his beauty.
“Mr. Qin, I long for a free and easy romance, not a marriage where having children is a must. Surely you don’t wish to be engaged to me either.”
“Miss Ouyang, I’m the opposite. I prefer a partner and marriage where I have full control.”
Ouyang Jing couldn’t help but ask, “Your firm choice of Xia Yuan is because she suits you?”
—
Qin Mohuai didn’t respond. He got into the Maybach and closed the door, shutting out the outside world’s prying eyes.
—
At Shenghai Manor, Xia Yuan was watching the talent show “Dream Apprentice,” which featured Xia Yuze.
She curled up on the sofa, half of her fair, cool face buried in her jet-black hair. Her thick, long eyelashes drooped lazily, and her calm, tranquil eyes added a hint of allure. In the next moment, the beautiful girl pouted her rosy lips, appearing somewhat bored.
Although the contestants on the show were handsome, they all looked similar, lacking strong individual charm.
Including Xia Yuzhe:)
After returning home, Qin Mohuai went upstairs to find his wife, holding a ring box.
“Baby, you are my heart~”
The second-floor living room was open-plan. Although there was a twelve-panel hunting screen that Qin Mohuai liked, it didn’t provide much privacy at all.
As soon as he walked in, he heard a wild man’s voice coming from the tablet. A cold light flickered in his eyes as he looked down from his high vantage point at the wild man on the screen, while Xia Yuan, with her bare shoulders exposed, was completely unaware of the impending danger.
Xia Yuan enjoyed walking around barefoot, so the entire second floor was carpeted, making her footsteps nearly silent. Sometimes when Qin Mohuai came home from work, she would hide around a corner to scare him.
The cunning man would always be startled and then naturally pull her into an embrace against the wall, claiming it was a reward for scaring him.
Little did he know, she had a sweet fragrance that Qin Mohuai could catch a whiff of from a distance. Pretending to be scared allowed him to sneak in a few bites of her tender, appetizing flesh before dinner.
He was a favored child of heaven, never encountering setbacks in his studies or career, but in the lonely, sleepless nights, he often felt a profound sense of solitude. Xia Yuan’s presence nourished his barren spiritual world, filling the missing piece of his heart to the brim.
Xia Yuan was everything he wished for. Yang Yi said she was a love scammer, but Qin Mohuai knew better; he wasn’t an omnipotent god.
—
He had never fallen before; it was just that he hadn’t encountered a trap tailor-made for him.
If Xia Yuan was a trap designed specifically for him, he would willingly stay trapped inside it for a lifetime, hoping she could keep him there forever.
When Xia Yuan stretched lazily, she caught a glimpse of Qin Mohuai behind her. Earlier, she had seen his outline on the screen and thought it was a manifestation of her longing, but it turned out he was right behind her!
He looked gloomy and silent, like a ghost that had just crawled out of a dry well, his face pale and emanating a foul, damp odor.
Did capitalists carry so much resentment? The evil sword fairy was simply born too early, missing out on the right time.
Xia Yuan’s fair feet touched the lazy sofa as she curled into Qin Mohuai’s arms, bringing with her a soft and warm fragrance.
Qin Mohuai reflexively embraced her, his eyes hollow as if his soul had been drained, leaving only his handsome exterior.
She felt a bit scared of this standby state before Qin Mohuai went crazy, as it was hard to predict what he would do next.
“Hubby, I was just watching the show with Yuze. I don’t know why I suddenly missed you so much~ Just now, there was a rumble of thunder, and my heart was racing in fear. Can you feel my heartbeat? Isn’t it fast? Every beat is saying, ‘I want a hug from my husband.’”
What a sweet little thing.
A flicker of emotion appeared in Qin Mohuai’s dark, gloomy eyes. Not only did he touch her, but he also rubbed her chest, speaking in a hoarse voice, “It really is beating fast.”
He didn’t know whether she was speaking the truth or lying; as long as she was by his side, that was enough.
Late at night, after Xia Yuan fell asleep, Qin Mohuai opened his eyes. He took out several bottles and jars, pouring out a handful of pills to stuff into his mouth, the bitter taste spreading across his tongue.
Every year, as the anniversary of the Qin couple’s death approached, Qin Mohuai’s mental state would become unstable, with his sensitive, suspicious, and extremely paranoid flaws magnified countless times. On the anniversary itself, his temperament would change dramatically, and everyone around him would be affected.
Right now, the best thing would be to send Xia Yuan away and bring her back after his parents’ memorial day had passed, but Qin Mohuai was reluctant to part with her.
