001 Her Face Is the Best Passport

With delicate willow leaf eyebrows, sparkling almond-shaped eyes, a small nose, and rosy lips, the little beauty in the mirror has features that, when seen individually, are exquisite; when combined, they give off a pitiful vibe, as if the slightest raised voice could make her tears fall instantly.

Yet she always felt something was off. Her eyebrows seemed like they should be thicker, her eyes shouldn’t be so watery, her nose should be more prominent, and her lips ought to be thinner.

Lowering her head, she looked at the ID card in her hand; the name was also strange to her—Jian Han, just turned eighteen, with a birthday two months away, and the address listed was the unit she was currently in.

She had checked the apartment and found only one toothbrush, one towel, and even just a single pair of slippers, indicating that the owner lived alone and didn’t welcome any visitors. Calmly, Jian Han put the ID back in her wallet and counted the cash inside, finding seven or eight pink bills. Before she reset all her bank card passwords, it would be enough for her short-term living expenses.

After putting her wallet away, Jian Han instinctively looked around to see if there were any clues that could further prove the owner’s identity. Just a glance made her frown immediately.

On the wall opposite the bed hung a huge poster—of a young man whose black shirt was completely unbuttoned, exposing his tanned chest, low-waisted jeans that hinted at a faint ‘V’ shape, and a sharply defined profile with a slightly curled lip, as if smiling yet not quite. His deep black eyes gazed directly out of the poster, as if having a magnetic allure that drew people in.

Not just this wall, posters of the same man covered various places in the room; even the ceiling was adorned. He posed in trendy outfits, mostly maintaining a cold, expressionless face, with an occasional slight smile, each one exuding an enchanting charm that made one want to leap forward and kiss his face. After a brief hesitation, Jian Han still reached out and tore down the posters, knowing instinctively that although this man was very handsome, he was not her type.

After tearing down all the posters on the walls, Jian Han jumped onto the big bed and reached up to tear down the poster from the ceiling. A rhythmic melody began to play: “Drunk in the deep of night, loneliness binds us together, your hair, my hair, entwined, when dawn breaks, we go our separate ways, who remembers whose face—”

Jian Han paused, lowering her head to search for a while before finally digging out a phone from the pile of posters, plastered with the same man’s large headshots. Before she could speak, a gentle sigh came through the speaker, and a man’s voice warmly rang out, “Jian Han? The test today, you’re not really going to give up after scoring at the bottom, are you? Aren’t you supposed to be following in Han Chen’s footsteps?”

Jian Han frowned slightly, “Test? What test?” There was a pause from the person on the other end, sounding helpless: “You really forgot? Room 1205, Xingguang Building, hurry up!” Jian Han put down the phone, hesitated for a moment, then jumped off the bed, grabbing her phone and wallet, and randomly picked up a light blue umbrella as she headed out.

Since she still couldn’t remember who she was, she would have to live Jian Han’s life to the fullest. She didn’t know where Xingguang Building was, so she directly called a taxi after leaving the neighborhood, providing the address. The driver seemed familiar with it and glanced at her, smiling as he said, “Are you a trainee at Rongguang Agency? It’s pretty hot right now.”

Jian Han was taken aback. An agency? She shook her head and answered honestly, “No.” After that, she turned her gaze to the window. Seeing that she had no desire to chat, the driver wisely didn’t pry further and focused on driving. When they arrived in front of Xingguang Building, Jian Han finally understood why the driver had asked.

The building’s facade was a massive wall of blue glass, and beside the shining gold letters spelling “Xingguang Building,” there were six slightly smaller characters elegantly written—”Rongguang Agency.” Jian Han slapped her forehead and stepped into the shiny revolving glass door. Just as she entered, a young security guard in a black uniform stopped her: “Hello, please show me your identification.”

Jian Han was momentarily stunned, images flashing quickly in her mind; she vaguely remembered that in the past, she didn’t need to show any ID to go anywhere. She could stride forward without anyone daring to stop her; it seemed her face was the best passport.

After a moment of daze, when the young security guard repeated his request again, Jian Han came to her senses, pulled out her wallet, rummaged through it, and indeed found an ID card. It featured her pitifully cute photo with the words written below: “Rongguang Agency—Trainee No. 18, Jian Han.”

The young security guard promptly let her through, kindly reminding her, “Miss Jian, the test has already started; you should hurry.” Jian Han mumbled a couple of acknowledgments and groggily ran toward the elevator.

Luckily, the elevator was empty; she pressed the button for the 12th floor, watching the floors pass quickly until it stopped at the twelfth floor. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, a long hand reached out, grabbing her wrist and pulling her to run, “You finally made it! This time I had someone adjust the order for you; there won’t be any good luck like this next time!” Jian Han found herself being pulled along and glanced at the person dragging her. He looked young, probably just over twenty, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and appearing quite scholarly, thin, with two natural dimples on his pale face as he smiled faintly.

When they reached the door of Room 1205, he suddenly stopped, turned around, and firmly grasped Jian Han’s shoulders, gazing seriously into her eyes, “Listen, this test may be a bit difficult for you; there aren’t any roles like a bullied girl that fit your image. Just do your best!” Before he could finish, a mocking laugh came from the side as a young man dressed in a pink collared shirt and blue suit swaggered over, clapping his hands, his eyes filled with ridicule: “Hui Shao, you haven’t given up yet? With someone as hopeless as this, even Zhuge Liang would be driven to madness.”

Fang Hui narrowed his eyes, stepping forward to stand protectively in front of Jian Han, smiling lightly, “Tang Jun, you should take care of your subordinates. I heard Lisa was spotted again in a nightclub. You can’t always rely on the boss to cover for you.” Tang Jun shrugged indifferently, “Stars are made to be hyped. If you can’t hit the headlines, what’s the point of being a star?” Watching their back-and-forth with sharp retorts, Jian Han felt an inexplicable adrenaline rush, as if everything before her was familiar. Could it be that she was once a star?
