He Ye: [Hmm.]
The next morning, He Ye waited until her parents went to the fruit shop before changing into her school uniform. She wore long pants and a short-sleeve shirt, looking fresh and clean.
At seven o’clock, her boyfriend messaged: [I’m here.]
He Ye: [I’ll be down right away.]
As she passed the entrance, He Ye looked in the mirror again. With her ponytail and school uniform, she hoped she would look fine.
Even if she got stopped by the security guards, she had Lu Jin to help her out.
Feeling refreshed, He Ye went outside.
While in the elevator, she felt a bit embarrassed.
As she feared, the elevator stopped on the eighth floor, and an old lady who looked familiar entered.
He Ye nodded politely.
The old lady stared at her for a moment and smiled: “Will you take the college entrance examination next year too?”
She remembered this high school student.
He Ye: “…”
The more she tried to explain, the more embarrassing it became, so she just accepted it.
When she walked out of the building, she saw Lu Jin across the street. He was wearing the same school uniform as her, sitting on a bicycle with one foot on the ground.
He Ye slowed her pace, waiting for the old lady to walk away before she approached her boyfriend with a smile.
Lu Jin: “What are you laughing at?”
He Ye blushed a little, sat on the back seat first, and explained quietly: “The grandma just asked me if I would also take the college entrance examination next year.”
Meaning, she could still pretend to be a high school student.
Lu Jin: “I also saw an aunt I recognized in the elevator.”
He Ye: “What did she say?”
Lu Jin: “She said—young people really know how to have fun.”
He Ye shook with laughter.
His girlfriend put one arm around his waist, and the slight vibration felt ticklish to him.
Lu Jin: “I guess I’m older than you.”
He Ye: “No, maybe you just have a special aura, so she remembers you clearly and knows you’re already working.”
Lu Jin: “Thanks for the comfort.”
He Ye continued to smile.
Since she sat in the back, she couldn’t see the road ahead. When they reached the South Gate, Lu Jin suddenly slowed down.
He Ye: “What’s wrong?”
Lu Jin: “There’s someone I know up ahead.”
He Ye was startled. It would be too embarrassing if they ran into someone dressed like this.
“Who is it? Can we take a detour?” He Ye asked, gripping his clothes.
Lu Jin: “They’ve already seen me.”
He Ye leaned out a little to look.
It was a sunny day with a clear view.
At the entrance of the community, about 20 meters away, a couple with great looks were walking together, each carrying groceries.
He Ye: “…”
She was ready to go to her boyfriend’s house for lunch, but she didn’t expect to meet them in her school uniform!
Before she could decide what to do, Lu Jin resumed his normal riding speed.
There wasn’t much time for He Ye to think.
When they met, Lu Jin stopped the bike.
He Ye got off awkwardly, stood next to Lu Jin, and called them uncle and aunt with a blush and a smile.
Lu Jin smiled elegantly, as if he didn’t see anything odd about their clothes.
Lin Yun immediately blamed her son: “Is Xiao Lu still upset because you rejected him back then, so he dragged you to school to talk again?”
He Ye nodded. Although the reason was different, it was indeed Lu Jin’s idea.
Lu Jin: “So many groceries?”
Lin Yun: “It’s not for you two. Okay, go ahead and have fun. Just be back before lunch.”
After that, the couple left.
He Ye got back on her boyfriend’s bike, silent, and silently pinched his waist.
Lu Jin: “I couldn’t have done that on purpose.”
He Ye: “You knew they were buying groceries; why didn’t you take a detour?”
Lu Jin: “If we went around to the east gate, Uncle He and the others would definitely see us.”
He Ye: “What about the North Gate?”
Lu Jin said, “It’s too far. I’ll be late for school.”
He Ye didn’t reply.
After riding slowly for about ten minutes, Lu Jin arrived at the gate of No. 2 Middle School.
The senior high school students who took the college entrance examination had already left, but the first and second-year students still had classes on Saturdays.
There were many day students, so the security guard didn’t notice two graduated students among them.
The senior high school building was quiet, and the door was unlocked.
Lu Jin took He Ye up the stairs to Class 8’s classroom.
He Ye walked around, remembering the old place, and finally sat in her seat.
Lu Jin sat behind her.
He Ye turned around and reminded him, “Your seat is over there.”
Lu Jin looked her straight in the eyes: “There’s no one here right now.”
He Ye glared at him and turned back.
Just as she straightened up, someone playfully tugged at her ponytail.
He Ye muttered without looking back, “You wouldn’t have done this before. Just act like it.”
Lu Jin replied, “I didn’t show it on the outside, but I thought about it every day.”
He Ye said, “Then I definitely don’t like you. Girls hate boys who pull their hair the most.”
Lu Jin insisted, “I’m not kidding.”
He Ye retorted, “It’s all the same.”
His hand was taken away, but a moment later, He Ye heard him ask, “Does this bother you?”
He Ye turned around out of habit.
In that moment, Lu Jin leaned down and kissed her gently.
Since they were at school and in uniform, Lu Jin kept it light and brief.
The two held hands and walked around the school playground again.
The sun was rising higher and it was getting hotter outside.
Afterward, they returned to the teaching building and rode away on their bikes.
At the school gate, it was class time, so no students were around. The security guard, in his forties, recognized Lu Jin right away and then noticed He Ye, who sat behind him with her head down.
Worried they might be caught skipping class, He Ye relaxed when the security guard smiled and asked Lu Jin, “Now that you’ve graduated, are you back to play?”
Lu Jin was surprised: “You recognize us?”
The security guard replied, “I do. Zhou Yi, you two always walked together at night. I could tell you were dating.”
Lu Jin laughed: “You have a sharp eye.”
He Ye quietly pinched him.
The security guard continued, “It’s not easy. It’s been several years and you’re still together.”
Lu Jin replied, “Well, I’ll bring you some wedding candy when you get married.”
The security guard laughed heartily as the couple left the campus, with He Ye playfully pinching Lu Jin.
