Chapter 31: Owl Demi-Humans (1/2)
The interior of the laboratory was very simple, with only a desk, a computer, and a few pieces of lab equipment.
In the corner, there was also a small bed, next to which stood a coat rack, suggesting that the lab’s master often slept there.
A woman wearing a white lab coat was standing there. Shen Cheng immediately noticed her hazel eyes, chestnut hair, and the two feathers on top of her head, from which he deduced that she was a demi-human.
Demi-human, doctor, and avian traits—Shen Cheng quickly associated this with the owl demi-humans that Shao Silin had once mentioned to him.
The doctor was apparently very interested in Shen Cheng and kept moving closer while constantly sizing him up.
Just as Shen Cheng, sensing she was getting too close, started to pull back, she stepped back two paces, extended her right hand to him, and introduced herself: “Hello, newly appointed Specialized Agent Shen Cheng. I am Yu Lan, an owl demi-human.”
“Hello,” Shen Cheng replied, maintaining a calm exterior as he shook hands with Yu Lan, though he was internally shocked!
A demi-human!
According to Shao Silin, since they were discovered, there have only been thirty-eight demi-humans, meaning the oldest demi-humans at the Bio-Scientific Institute are only thirty-eight years old!
Yet this demi-human in front of him, with just her age and knowledge, had secured the position of Associate Dean at one of the top national biogenetics research institutes!
But upon further thought, Shen Cheng came to terms with it.
After all, experience was a critical shortfall; no matter how far her wisdom and abilities exceeded ordinary people, this demi-human could not be older than thirty-eight. Yu Lan’s position likely served as a statement of the government’s support for harmonious policies towards demi-humans.
Nevertheless, the position of Associate Dean was not easily won, and Yu Lan’s emergence from among other demi-humans and exceptional promotion was certainly a testament to her outstanding abilities.
“I believe Shao Silin has already informed you about the nature of demi-humans, so I won’t go into much detail about that. Next, I’ll explain to you our Institute’s most advanced research achievements in the demi-humans field.”
It was clear that Yu Lan was not one for small talk, getting straight to the point.
“…Is it about genetics?” Shen Cheng tentatively asked, connecting it to the full name of the Institute of Biogenetics.
“Correct.” Yu Lan nodded, turning to retrieve a test tube containing a bright green liquid from the lab equipment, which she handed to Shen Cheng. “This is a demi-human genetic agent developed by our Bio-Scientific Institute. Once injected into the human body, it integrates and modifies the genome, eventually granting humans animal-like abilities, similar to those of demi-humans.”
Granting humans animal-like abilities similar to demi-humans?!
“Are there any requirements for the human body when injecting this agent?” Shen Cheng asked, frowning slightly as he gazed at the bright green liquid in the test tube. “And might it have any side effects?”
“If one must say, there aren’t many requirements for the human body; the main concern lies in the side effects.”
