Chapter 57: Night Attack! Night Attack (1/2)
Shen Cheng had just fallen asleep when the door lock gently turned. With a soft “click,” the door opened slightly, and a figure slipped in, quietly closing the door. The person tiptoed to Shen Cheng’s bedside and swiftly slid into his bed, all in one fluid motion. After a slight shuffle, everything went still.
“Woosh—” Shen Cheng lifted the blanket, sat up, and glared with deadpan eyes at the pair of emerald green eyes staring back at him from beside his pillow.
Shen Cheng: “…”
Sugar: “…”
After a brief stare-off, Sugar wrapped herself tighter in the blanket, closed her eyes, and went back to sleep, leaving Shen Cheng sitting there, dumbfounded.
With a twitch of his lips, Shen Cheng helplessly asked, “Where did you get the key?”
“From grandma,” Sugar replied, not even bothering to open her eyes, clearly intent on staying.
Shen Cheng’s face darkened. “Go back!”
Sugar wiggled in the blanket but remained unmoved.
Ever since the rainy night when Shen Cheng found Sugar, she had been sneaking into his bed almost every night. It became so routine that Shen Cheng often woke up in the morning to find a soft, fragrant, white-haired cat-eared girl peacefully sleeping next to him.
Eventually, Shen Cheng started locking his door at night.
But because of the stress from work, Shen Cheng had been sleeping deeply, and Sugar’s sneaky entry into his bed was almost imperceptible. Tonight was the first time he caught her in the act.
And… it didn’t make any difference.
After several failed attempts to get Sugar to leave, Shen Cheng nearly resigned himself to sleeping on the floor in frustration.
But on second thought, he figured it wasn’t the first time, and besides, what kind of man lets a cat make him sleep on the floor? So, he simply grabbed half of the blanket back, left some space between them, and turned over to sleep.
Breathing in the mixed scent of her shampoo, body wash, and her unique fragrance, Shen Cheng forcibly suppressed his restless thoughts, mentally repeating, “She’s just a cat, just a cat, just a cat…”
At that moment, Sugar wiggled again, this time snuggling into Shen Cheng’s arms.
Shen Cheng: “Pfft!”
…
When Shen Cheng opened his eyes the next morning, the other half of the bed was empty. Sugar was nowhere to be seen, likely having gone to the bathroom.
Lin Yuhui gently patted her still rapidly beating heart before getting up. She grabbed her clothes from the rack and pulled out a key.
—The key to Shen Cheng’s room.
Lin Yuhui had mustered up the courage to ask her grandma for it, and even now, the strange look her grandma gave her still made her cheeks burn.
Taking two deep breaths, Lin Yuhui patted her face and quietly left her room.
Standing in front of Shen Cheng’s room, Lin Yuhui looked down at the key in her hand, suddenly feeling hesitant.
Shen Cheng was a year ahead of Lin Yuhui and had left university early since he didn’t pursue postgraduate studies. Back then, Lin Yuhui had spent several sleepless nights after he left, knowing that with Shen Cheng’s departure, their chances of meeting would become much rarer, and their relationship would likely grow more distant.
It wasn’t until later that Lin Yuhui heard that Shen Cheng was planning to rent a shop in Lingshi City to open a cat café. Without a second thought, she rented him the first floor of the house her parents had left her. Since then, they had been living together until today.
