High Stakes Gamble
High Stakes Gamble Chapter 1

I’m a cold and aloof movie emperor in the entertainment industry. He Jinsheng chased me for three years before finally winning me over.

Everyone says that the young master of the He family has been conquered by a man.

Until the day of our anniversary, I overheard someone ask him how it felt to be in love with me.

He Jinsheng, with a cigarette between his fingers, lazily puffed out a smoke ring and said casually, “Kissing a man? Pretty disgusting.”

When I arrived at the bar, the booth was packed with people, all of them He Jinsheng’s friends.

I didn’t know what they had been talking about before I arrived, but everyone was laughing together.

As I found him among the crowd, He Jinsheng had his arm around a beautiful woman.

I narrowed my eyes, sneering as I prepared to approach, but then I heard someone shout, “Sheng-ge, how did you manage to chase down someone as unattainable as Cheng Yu?”

The dim lighting in the bar made me pause my steps.

Standing a few feet away from He Jinsheng, I heard him chuckle softly but give no answer.

The person who asked pressed him again.

“Don’t keep us in suspense, teach us your tricks.”

Another chimed in, “Sheng-ge’s face is irresistible to men, women, young or old. You’ll never learn his ways.”

I must admit, being with He Jinsheng, his near-perfect face was indeed a big factor.

But his friend wasn’t satisfied, leaning closer to ask again, “Sheng-ge, what’s it like dating Cheng Yu?”

Everyone turned to look at He Jinsheng, waiting for his answer, including me—the person in question—curious about what he would say.

He Jinsheng chased me for a year before I agreed to give it a try. Today also happens to be our one-year anniversary.

When he left this morning, he told me he had a surprise for me today.

He Jinsheng is a master of romance, always full of surprises in our daily life, so I was really looking forward to what this “surprise” would be.

I waited at home all night, but he never showed up. It wasn’t until I saw a post from his friend on social media that I realized he was at a bar.

Though I was upset, I still drove over to pick him up.

“Sheng-ge, tell us, what’s it like dating a man?”

He Jinsheng let go of the woman he was holding, lit a cigarette, and nonchalantly puffed out a smoke ring. “What could it possibly feel like?”

He paused.

“Kissing a man? Actually, it’s pretty disgusting.”

A round of cheers followed, “Our Sheng-ge really made a big sacrifice to win this time!”

That’s when the bottle hit him.

He reacted quickly, the bottle grazing his temple and shattering on the ground behind him with a crisp sound.

Suddenly, everyone went silent, their eyes all turning toward me.

He Jinsheng looked over too.

The young master of the He family has always been untouchable in the capital, no one dares provoke him.

So the moment the bottle shattered, He Jinsheng’s face darkened.

He looked up fiercely, but when he saw me, his eyes flickered with shock and panic.

He pushed the woman beside him away and immediately stood up.

The lighting was too dim for the woman to see me clearly, so she cursed, “Are you crazy, throwing a bottle at someone?”

But in the next second, someone covered her mouth and dragged her aside.

He Jinsheng and I stood there, staring at each other, neither of us moving.

His friends recognized me, their gazes shifting between me and He Jinsheng, as one of them tried to defuse the situation, “Cheng, Cheng Yu, what are you doing here?”

I adjusted my glasses, sneered, “I came to see your Sheng-ge put on a show.”

Everyone’s expression changed in an instant.

People who know me always say I seem aloof, but I’m actually very gentle and have a great temper in private.

But right now, I didn’t care about appearances anymore. I wanted nothing more than to grab He Jinsheng by the collar and punch him in front of everyone.

Taking a few deep breaths to calm my boiling emotions, I walked over to the table, grabbed some napkins, and wiped the liquor off my hand.

“Carry on.”

Then I turned and walked out without looking back.

“Cheng Yu!”

I kept walking without turning around, until He Jinsheng caught up to me in the parking lot, grabbing my arm. “Cheng Yu, let me explain.”

The emotions I had just suppressed surged back the moment he grabbed me.

I turned and punched him in the face.

Caught off guard, He Jinsheng stumbled back a few steps before regaining his balance.

Just like I had imagined in the bar, I rushed forward, grabbed his collar, and slammed him against the wall. “Explain what? Explain how you played me?”

“What are you pretending for in front of them, He Jinsheng? If kissing me disgusts you, why cling to me like a pig every day?”

When he raised his hand, I thought He Jinsheng was going to hit me back, but instead, he adjusted my glasses.

“Didn’t you hate wearing glasses? Are your eyes uncomfortable today?”

I slapped his hand away from my face. “Stop pretending in front of me!

“Your so-called surprise is letting me watch you hold another woman, saying kissing me is disgusting?”

He Jinsheng didn’t get angry, instead, a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me closer. “I was just joking. I won’t say it again, okay?”

He used to coax me like this too. A little playful banter was a part of every relationship.

Normally, I would take the olive branch and move on.

But this time, it was different.

His attitude only poured gasoline on the fire. I let go of his collar and aimed another punch at his other cheek.

Unfortunately, this time he caught my hand mid-swing. “Cheng Yu, don’t go too far.”

Young masters like He Jinsheng don’t have much patience.

His brow furrowed slightly, his eyes showing a hint of annoyance. “I already apologized, what more do you want?”

I sneered without saying a word.

Seeing that I was ready to make another move, He Jinsheng tightened his grip, trying to physically restrain me.

Already holding back a surge of anger, his action ignited it further, and the two of us started brawling.

There were security cameras in the parking lot, and the guards arrived after a lot of effort to pull us apart.

He was bruised and battered, wiping the blood from his face, and shouted at me, “Have you lost your mind?”
