Chi Yan felt that he had made himself clear that night. If Feng Min still refused to let go, that had nothing to do with him, as long as it didn’t interfere with his life.
“Be careful,” someone advised.
“Mm,” Chi Yan responded, putting his phone away, his eyes gradually darkening.
If Feng Min hadn’t left without a word back then, maybe now…
Chi Yan shook his head with a smile. There were no “maybes” in this world; he knew that better than anyone.
Despite Feng Min stalking him again, Chi Yan didn’t take it to heart. Therefore, he had no idea that Feng Min had driven to his neighborhood and sat in his car outside until the early hours of the morning.
Not feeling well, Chi Yan went home, took a shower, changed into pajamas, and fell asleep.
That night, Chi Yan had a nightmare. He dreamt that he was lying on an operating table, surrounded by people with blurry faces, each holding a scalpel. It was clear they were preparing to cut him open.
Chi Yan struggled and screamed, but his hands and feet were bound, and his voice was trapped in his throat. A cold scalpel sliced open his stomach, and someone pulled a bloody mass from inside him.
Chi Yan woke up drenched in cold sweat. Instinctively, he reached for his stomach. Though his abdomen was flat, the nightmare had felt so real that Chi Yan had the eerie sense that something was truly inside him.
Chi Yan didn’t believe in ghosts or superstitions, but for a moment, he wondered if it was some sort of omen.
That morning, he had a live stream, and after finishing, he headed to the nearest hospital. Around noon, when the doctors were on break, he grabbed some lunch.
Afterward, he sat on a bench in the hallway, waiting for the doctor to return. He explained his situation, and the doctor suggested a gastroscopy.
Chi Yan went to pay for the procedure and took the form to the gastroscopy room. The results were so shocking that Chi Yan was left in disbelief. The doctor was equally surprised, even standing up to confirm Chi Yan’s gender multiple times.
This was an experienced doctor, and he wasn’t seeing a tumor or anything like that inside Chi Yan’s abdomen—he was seeing a fetus. After the initial shock, the doctor composed himself more quickly than Chi Yan.
The doctor approached him, but Chi Yan was in a daze. He wondered if he was hallucinating or mishearing things. How could a man like him be pregnant?
He had lived for over 20 years and had no idea he possessed any female reproductive functions.
“I suggest you get an ultrasound,” the doctor advised, sensing that this was a huge shock for Chi Yan. Although the doctor had many questions, he kept his curiosity in check.
Chi Yan wasn’t sure how he made it out of the examination room. He walked through the hospital’s main hall, realizing he had to pay before the next test.
Standing in line, as it was almost his turn, Chi Yan suddenly stiffened. He turned around and walked out of the hospital, his face twisted with disbelief.
“No way. There’s no way I’m pregnant.”
A man, pregnant? It was ridiculous.
Chi Yan walked quickly, almost as if someone were chasing him. He spotted a taxi parked by the roadside and got in, giving the driver his home address. His hands clenched into fists, his nails digging into his palms, the pain helping him regain a bit of clarity.
When the car stopped outside his apartment complex, Chi Yan scanned his phone to pay. As he walked toward the gate, he suddenly stopped.
Turning his head, he looked toward a pharmacy nearby. His fingers twitched, and though part of him wanted to believe that what the doctor said was false, another part of him felt like an invisible voice was telling him it was real.
Chi Yan quickly walked into the pharmacy, immediately asking the clerk for two pregnancy tests. The clerk gave him a strange look. Chi Yan was strikingly handsome, the kind of person who turned heads wherever he went. As the clerk handed him the tests, they couldn’t help but wonder what his girlfriend must look like to have such a good-looking boyfriend—both enviable and infuriating.
Chi Yan didn’t say anything more. He paid and left, fully aware of the stares but entirely unfazed by them.
Back home, Chi Yan opened the packaging and carefully read the instructions. He took one of the tests into the bathroom and followed the steps.
Nothing appeared on the test—no red line at all. Confused, Chi Yan looked it up online and found that sometimes pregnancy tests could be faulty.
There was still another test. Chi Yan felt a sudden wave of tension. He considered throwing it away. How could he be pregnant? Holding the test made him feel ridiculous, like a fool.
Anyone who heard about this would surely laugh at him.
But the more he thought that way, the less willing he was to toss the test aside.
When two red lines appeared on the second test, Chi Yan froze. He walked out of the bathroom and even took a picture with his phone, staring at the photo to make sure he wasn’t seeing things.
It was real. Two red lines.
Chi Yan sat down on the sofa, glancing around the room as if searching for something—though he wasn’t sure what.
The pregnancy test felt like a hot coal in his hand, but Chi Yan didn’t have the strength to drop it.
He was pregnant.
He really was pregnant.
His lips twitched as if to smile, but it came out as more of a grimace, a failed attempt at a laugh.
Chi Yan quickly grabbed his phone and searched online: “Can men get pregnant?”
Several results popped up. He clicked on one, and the top reply read, “Men don’t have the organs for it. If something’s wrong, go get it checked out.”
