Chi Yan sat in the back, while Feng Min talked with the doctor.
The doctor asked Feng Min if he took his medication on time every day and how his mental state was. Feng Min said he took his medication regularly. After returning to the country, he felt relatively stable, though he occasionally experienced some fluctuations.
As they chatted, they gradually seemed to ignore Chi Yan sitting behind them. Chi Yan quietly listened to the conversation in front of him.
From their discussion, he slowly realized what was wrong with Feng Min; he had a serious mental illness, including paranoia and manic-depressive disorder.
During his treatment abroad, he couldn’t control himself, so he resorted to self-harm to cope. After stabilizing his condition and returning home, although he no longer harmed himself, he would break empty glass cups at home.
To avoid affecting those around him, he bought both the upstairs and downstairs units in the building.
Now, when feeling emotionally unwell, he wouldn’t break bottles anymore; he managed to control himself and no longer needed to frequently replace the furniture at home.
Feng Min expressed confidence in himself, stating that his condition was slowly improving and that he would soon stabilize completely.
Time passed quickly, and after finishing their conversation, the doctor stood up to see Feng Min off.
Chi Yan remained seated, and when he saw Feng Min turn around to look at him, that person had a smile on his face, a familiar and gentle smile.
It had been a long time since he had seen such a gentle smile.
He remembered how, when he first met Feng Min, he had smiled like this, and it was this smile that had attracted Chi Yan.
After leaving the hospital, the two returned to the car.
Feng Min didn’t say anything and directly took Chi Yan back home.
Chi Yan opened the door to get out of the car and turned to look at Feng Min in the driver’s seat, who still didn’t say a word.
Chi Yan walked ahead; after taking a couple of steps, he noticed that no one was following him.
He hesitated a bit, but in the end, Chi Yan still didn’t turn back.
Feng Min watched Chi Yan’s departing figure, a smile slowly curving his lips.
He had known for a long time that Chi Yan was someone who appeared cold on the outside but was warm on the inside. Although he seemed distant, deep down, he was soft-hearted.
Moreover, now he had his child; this was a very good opportunity. Feng Min felt that with this child, winning Chi Yan back would be a quick matter.
As for believing that Chi Yan, a man, could be pregnant, Feng Min had no doubts; it was something that didn’t need verification but was undoubtedly true.
Back at home, Chi Yan found it hard to calm down for a long time.
In his mind, the image of Feng Min’s scarred hand kept appearing, and he could almost hear that person’s voice.
So it had all been his misunderstanding.
Feng Min’s departure over the years wasn’t due to a lack of love or for playing with him; it was because he had fallen ill.
He had said that when he was unwell, he couldn’t help but want to hurt those around him, but those people were the ones he loved most. So before hurting Chi Yan, he chose to run away, as he couldn’t be sure if he could heal. He feared that if he couldn’t heal, he would bring endless harm to Chi Yan.
Chi Yan sat on the sofa, his hands tightly clasped together.
He remembered Feng Min’s tear-filled eyes, knowing that person truly loved him.
Was it because he was pregnant that his heart softened? Just having a slight understanding seemed to loosen the lock on his tightly shut heart.
Leaning back on the sofa, Chi Yan closed his eyes.
He couldn’t fully let go in his heart. That person had said nothing, shouldering everything alone, declaring his love, yet it was still selfish—why couldn’t they share the burden? Was he really that fragile?
He would accompany him for treatment; why hadn’t Feng Min believed him before?
Chi Yan covered his eyes with his hands, a bitter smile appearing at the corners of his mouth.
The next day, the door of Chi Yan’s house was knocked on very early. He went out to open the door, and there stood Feng Min, holding breakfast. Chi Yan stared at him as Feng Min handed him the breakfast and then turned to leave.
Chi Yan watched as the door closed again, glancing at the breakfast in his hand. He knew what Feng Min intended. If he wanted to continue alone, he should throw the breakfast outside, but after hesitating for a long time, Chi Yan did not throw the breakfast away.
He had thought all night last night and knew that he still liked Feng Min. Feng Min was his first love and the only person he had ever liked.
He was pregnant and had to do everything by himself; there were so many preparations to be made that he suddenly felt exhausted.
Feng Min was the father of the child, and he had a responsibility to take care of the baby.
Chi Yan sat down to eat breakfast. As his pregnancy progressed, he occasionally felt backaches and leg aches, and he was very sleepy. He had been persisting alone, not telling anyone about his struggles. Sometimes, he really wanted to rest well and do nothing.
Since it was like this, why not use his labor force?
What if Feng Min had another episode and ran away one day?
Chi Yan thought that when that happened, he would just find someone to beat Feng Min up; there was nothing that couldn’t be resolved with a good beating.
Chi Yan shook his head and laughed.
Pregnancy was very hard work, and Chi Yan thought he was just tired and needed a break. He hadn’t yet forgiven Feng Min.
Feng Min sat in the car but didn’t leave immediately. He took out his phone to look at Chi Yan’s picture when suddenly a call came in, and Chi Yan’s name flashed on the screen.
Feng Min was stunned in disbelief.
“I don’t like the buns for breakfast; you need to buy me the mushroom-filled ones.” Chi Yan’s voice came through the phone in a calm tone.
Feng Min was taken aback for a few seconds, then pushed open the car door, forgetting to lock it, and ran to the breakfast shop he had just been at.
He bought a steaming mushroom bun and rushed to Chi Yan’s house.
Chi Yan coldly received the bun without locking the door.
Feng Min walked inside, his excitement barely contained.
Chi Yan was eating the mushroom bun while Feng Min sat beside him, staring at him without blinking, as if just watching Chi Yan eat was enough to satisfy him.
After finishing, Chi Yan wiped his mouth with a paper towel. The floor in the house was dirty and needed mopping, and he rudely ordered Feng Min to help him mop the floor.
