The space in the car was cramped, and his tall figure could barely move.
Coupled with my numb response, he quickly lost interest.
Still, he did what needed to be done; after finishing once, he wrapped me in a blanket from the car and dissolved the enchantment.
My brother burst into the car and yelled, “My sister just got kidnapped and you couldn’t be a bit more considerate?! Are you even human?!”
Ha, of course he’s not human.
Wait, how can my brother see him?!
I looked at my brother, puzzled. He was yelling at the ugly ghost sitting next to me, clearly able to see him.
“The spirit embryo is formed, the Chi Dragon has taken shape, and I can materialize my law body in the yang world,” he explained nonchalantly.
I silently turned my head away; whatever he was, I didn’t care.
“Wearing that ridiculous mask, are you Ox-Head or Horse-Face! Take it off and let’s see! My sister shouldn’t be bullied by you for no reason!” My brother said indignantly.
“You’re bold to speak to me like that,” he replied coldly.
“Ha, I’m not afraid of anything, not even death, scared of what?!”
He chuckled lightly, apparently mocking my brother’s mortal bravado.
I heard the rustle of fabric as he seemed to really remove his mask.
It was eerily quiet in the car. My brother’s voice stuttered a bit, “Um… Xiao Qiao… do you, you want to look? He, he…”
I buried my head in my knees, the body inside the blanket cold.
Cold liquid flowed out from within me, and my tears silently followed.
“…I don’t want to see, whatever he looks like, it has nothing to do with me.” I spoke with a heavy nasal voice, wrapping myself in darkness like an ostrich.
“Hmph… don’t look then,” his crisp voice carried a hint of icy anger.
He seemed about to disappear. My brother hurriedly said, “Wait, wait! What about my dad! You said you knew where my dad is?!”
“Renhe Hospital!” He coldly dropped the name and vanished from the car.
Renhe Hospital is a top-tier private hospital. My brother and I couldn’t figure out how our dad ended up there—could it be the ugly ghost’s doing?
But can casting spells also cover the fees for a VIP room?!
Dad was lying in the hospital bed, the doctor said a lot but I didn’t take any of it in. Our world was different from that of the doctors.
After the doctor left, my brother gave me four words: “Find Great-grandfather.”
He went out to call and contact people back home, while I stayed by my dad’s bedside.
Within a day, my great-grandfather arrived.
It usually took four to five hours from home here. Great-grandfather, leaning on a cane that looked ordinary but had natural bends and was reportedly made of rare Zijin Nan wood, which money couldn’t buy.
Great-grandfather is the pillar of our family. When he left home, naturally many accompanied him—my grandfather, second grandfather, uncles, cousins… about seven or eight people came.
As soon as he entered the VIP room, he had my cousin close the door.
Once the door was closed, he threw down his cane and kneeled towards me.
I was startled and quickly asked, “Great-grandfather, what are you doing?!”
While I tried to help him up, he pushed my hands away and shook his head, “Girl, stand properly!”
His tone was solemn. I looked helplessly at my brother, who was just as confused.
“…With utmost sincerity and respect, the Mu family thanks Lord Bei Tai for his protection…” Great-grandfather bowed to me.
Everyone at home was stunned, Great-grandfather at his age still kneeling, and they hurried to help him up.
A cousin’s wife whispered from behind, “Has the old man gone senile…”
Great-grandfather turned to look at my grandfather and second grandfather, “I’ve kneeled, and you dare stand?”
With that command, even if reluctantly, everyone knelt down. My brother, standing next to me, touched his nose awkwardly and asked, “Should I kneel too…?”
“Mu Yunfan!” Great-grandfather bellowed his full name, scaring my brother into kneeling quickly.
I felt terribly awkward, the youngest here, yet the only one standing.
“Great-grandfather… he, that person, no, that ghost isn’t here,” I whispered.
Great-grandfather still led the family in bowing three times before letting me help him up.
“Whether he is here or not isn’t important, his token is here, and we mortals should respectfully bow…” Great-grandfather pointed to my chest.
I was wearing his jade plaque.
Lord Bei Tai.
The sovereign of the underworld.
Great-grandfather is a spiritual figure in our family. After examining my dad, he said to my grandfather, “Chengtao is suffering from yin energy invading the marrow, the karmic debts of his past are ultimately his to repay…”
My grandfather stood respectfully and nodded, “Yes.”
“As for the hospital… let’s just stay for now. The younger family members can take turns keeping watch. As for the costs—”
Great-grandfather didn’t finish speaking when I saw displeasure on my second grandfather’s face.
My grandfather, sensing the mood, quickly said, “Dad, I’ll cover the costs myself, there’s no need to bother the other siblings. Chengtao is my son.”
Great-grandfather nodded, “If it’s not enough, just tell me.”
After instructing everyone, Great-grandfather’s gaze fell on me, and he smiled slightly, “Girl, you don’t look well… take care of your body.”
I instinctively reached for my abdomen at his implication.
It felt like there was a fire smoldering there.
Seven days have passed, and now my “task” is probably to act as a breeding machine.
I just hope this nightmare ends soon.
When Great-grandfather and the others left, my grandfather stayed behind and said, “Xiao Qiao, don’t worry, your dad will get better. We’ll find something to save him. Here’s a card with a million, the PIN is your dad’s birthday. If it’s not enough, I’ll send more.”
“What illness costs over a million? Is dad going to die?” I looked at my grandfather, wondering how he could be so calm.
Grandfather shook his head, “Years ago, to extend your mother’s life, he did some forbidden things. The karmic debt is ultimately his to repay… If you want him to recover quickly, you might consider studying harder and earning more money. Honestly, if we need to buy materials from others to expel the evil, it could cost over ten million.”
Grandfather smiled as he patted my and my brother’s heads before leaving.
We exchanged glances, feeling a sudden desolation—such is our family, where fate and fortune are in heaven’s hands, and no one cries over life and death.
Before we could dwell on our sadness for too long, a series of footsteps suddenly echoed in the corridor. This was the VIP area; why would there be a group of people running in the hallway?
Curious, my brother opened the door.
An old man in hospital attire danced and ran wildly, surrounded by a squad of black-suited bodyguards, with several nurses following.
What’s going on? Was the old man escaping the hospital?
He ran back and forth, repeating the action in the corridor.
My brother crossed his arms and commented, “Rich people are nuts, aren’t they? Exercising in the hospital corridor? That old man is clearly possessed.”
An arrogant male voice responded, “What do you mean, possessed—”
