The Sweetest Poison: Innocence with Deadly Consequences Chapter 4

Chapter 4 The Cowardly Tutor of the Arrogant Rascal

After today’s lesson ended, Pei Yao went downstairs and returned with a glass of milk.

“It’s getting late. Drink some milk and rest well,” he said.

Luo Yan sat on the guest room bed as Pei Yao stood in front of her, thrusting the glass of milk in her face.

Luo Yan didn’t want to drink it—warm milk wasn’t exactly appetizing. She lowered her eyes and turned her face away.

Pei Yao stared at her beautiful profile, momentarily dazed, but his voice became more forceful.

“Drink.”

Luo Yan turned back, her gaze bypassing the milk and lifting to meet Pei Yao’s eyes. *How domineering,* she thought.

Her eyes were pure and clear, like a pristine spring. Her long lashes fluttered innocently, a silent temptation that seemed to lure people in.

After a long moment, Pei Yao reached out and gently patted her head.

“Good girl.”

Realizing she had no choice but to comply, Luo Yan pouted, took the glass, and drank the milk in one gulp.

She held up the empty glass to show Pei Yao, licking the remaining milk from her lips. “I’ve finished, Young Master.”

Her obedient and docile demeanor was simply adorable.

Pei Yao’s heart gave an involuntary thump, and he patted her head again, the corners of his mouth lifting into a smirk.

“Sweet dreams tonight, little teacher.”

“Thank you, you too,” Luo Yan replied softly.

Her polite and proper manner made Pei Yao’s heart itch. That serious little face—someone as wicked as Pei Yao could only feel an overwhelming urge to tease her, to bully her just a little.

After finishing the milk, Luo Yan saw Pei Yao out and went to freshen up.

Once she had showered and changed into clean pajamas, she smelled like fresh soap, her whole body feeling refreshed.

She flopped backward onto the soft mattress, thinking to herself how quickly the day had passed.

Rolling a little on the bed, she snuggled into the covers, the comfortable surroundings making her mind wander.

Unbidden, thoughts of Pei Yao popped into her head.

“He doesn’t seem as bad as everyone says…” Luo Yan yawned, murmuring to herself. “A bit temperamental, and very bossy…”

“But I guess I can handle that.”

“At least he didn’t yell at me or hit me, except for his constant touching…”

Her voice trailed off. After a day full of anxiety, the car ride making her drowsy, and the comfort of the Pei family’s guest bed, the sleepiness in her mind took over. It was as if a swarm of drowsy little bugs was pulling down her eyelids, whispering, *Sleep now! Sleep now!*

“So tired…” Luo Yan yawned again, hugging the blanket as she drifted off into a deep sleep.

Pei Yao stood in front of Luo Yan’s guest room, not even bothering to pull out the key from his pocket. He easily pushed open the door.

*This silly girl didn’t even lock the door?*

A quiet chuckle escaped his throat as Pei Yao tiptoed into the room, shutting the door and locking it behind him.

He approached the bed and switched on the nightlight, sitting at the bedside and gazing at Luo Yan’s peaceful sleeping face.

Her sleeping posture was as obedient as ever, curled up with the blanket, her cheek resting against the pillow.

Pei Yao couldn’t resist reaching out and pinching her soft, puffed-up cheek, as if squeezing a piece of cake.

“Baby, why do you smell so sweet?” he murmured to himself.

Then, without hesitation, Pei Yao climbed onto the bed, kneeling beside Luo Yan’s slumbering form, and leaned down to take in her scent.

Pei Yao’s movements were gentle. He wasn’t worried that Luo Yan would wake up, as he had added a little sleep-inducing substance to the milk earlier. If everything went as expected, she would have a pleasant dream.

Of course, if things didn’t go as planned—if Luo Yan woke up and found Pei Yao intruding in her room—he wouldn’t mind that either.

But for now, let’s not wake up just yet.

Pei Yao leaned down and kissed Luo Yan’s cheek. The sweet, delicious scent that always clung to her body teased his senses relentlessly.

He rubbed his nose, feeling like the sweetness of his little tutor was suffocating him!

With his free hand, Pei Yao smoothed out the slight frown on Luo Yan’s face, turning her head toward him and pressing his lips to hers.

The Pei family mansion was silent at midnight, but in a certain locked room on the second floor, the eldest son of the Pei family clenched his teeth, like a predator, hungry and eager to claim his prey.

Even though Luo Yan was in a deep sleep, her small frame was suppressed by Pei Yao’s larger body, and she let out a muffled groan.

A tiny sound, almost like a kitten stretching.

Pei Yao could easily imagine Luo Yan making those little whimpering noises, clawing at his back, sweetly calling him “husband” over and over.

He pulled her fully into his embrace, struggling to contain himself. Still, Pei Yao wanted more than just this—he wanted to see her wide-eyed and tearful, trying to hide under the covers, only to have him catch her by the ankle and drag her back to him.

For now, Pei Yao gritted his teeth and sighed. “I’ll let you off this time.”

He kissed her lips again, a long, fervent kiss that made the sleeping girl’s eyes well up with tears from the intensity.

Pei Yao chuckled softly, licking the glittering droplets from her chin.

Her lips, flushed and glistening, looked as though they’d been dipped in rose honey.

Satisfied with the sight, he gently rubbed the corners of her reddened eyes with his thumb. “Poor thing,” he murmured.

He kissed away the tears, his lips grazing over her eyelids until they, too, were marked with his touch, a faint blush blooming across the delicate skin.

Naturally, the two little earlobes hidden beneath her hair didn’t escape his attention either.

“Mmm…” Luo Yan let out a few soft whimpers, as though pleading for help.

Pei Yao smirked. “Why do you like curling up so much, little tutor?”

He figured it must be from a lack of security.

Pei Yao finally released her earlobe, lying on his side as he gently stroked her hair, coaxing her with soft words.

Luo Yan’s face flushed, her body trembling as tears slipped down her cheeks. In her groggy, half-conscious state, her mind’s natural defense mechanisms failed her, and she instinctively sought out the person she relied on most in her memories.

“Mama… I’m scared.”

Pei Yao froze for a moment before quickly pulling her tighter into his arms, patting her back and soothing her, “Good girl, don’t call for Mama. Call me ‘brother.’”

“Mama…”

*Damn,* Pei Yao thought, irritated. He bit down lightly on Luo Yan’s collarbone, then whispered into her ear, “Call me husband. Say, ‘Husband, kiss me…’”

Luo Yan murmured softly, as if annoyed by the noise, and burrowed into Pei Yao’s arms, pressing her head against his shoulder in a docile silence.

Pei Yao’s heart pounded. “You little brat, always pretending to be pitiful to get your way.” He couldn’t help but smile; this was exactly what melted his heart. Despite his domineering nature, moments like this made him feel light, as if walking on air, always wanting to play the role of the “good guy.”

“I’ll let you go today,” Pei Yao muttered, adjusting Luo Yan’s clothes and tucking her in neatly. Seeing that she was fast asleep and no longer plagued by nightmares, he grumbled under his breath and left the room, heading back to his own to reflect on his actions.
